TRANSMISSION ADAPTER
1. Remove shift rail bushings (2) with Remover 9367
(3) and Slide Hammer C-3752 (1).
2. Remove countershaft and mainshaft bearing cups
and select shims.
3. Remove input shaft seal.
CLEANING
Clean the gears, bearings shafts, extension/adapter housing and gear case with solvent. Dry all parts except the
bearings with compressed air. Allow the bearings to either air dry or wipe them dry with clean shop towels.
INSPECTION
1. Inspect bearings, shaft and thrust washers. Replace bearings and mating components if worn, chipped, cracked,
flat-spotted or brinnelled.
2. Inspect gear tooth surface and replace gear if worn, chipped, cracked.
3. Inspect synchronizers components, if any component is worn or damage, the synchro must be replaced as and
assembly.
4. Inspect blocker rings and fiction cones. replace if worn, damaged or if friction material is burned.
5. Inspect shift forks for wear and distortion. Check fit of the sleeve in the fork. Replace fork if the roll pin holes are
worn oversize or damaged. Replace shift fork roll pins if necessary or if doubt exists about their condition.
6. Inspect case and housing/adapter sealing and mating surfaces are free of burrs and nicks. Inspect alignment
dowels in case, housing and adapter. Replace gear case housing, adapter orextension housing if cracked or
broken.

ASSEMBLY
TRANSMISSION ADAPTER
1. Install shift rail bushings (2) with Installer 9368 (3)
and Handle C-4171 (1).
2. Install input shaft seal with Installer 9366.
3. Install countershaft and mainshaft select shims (1)
in bearing cup bores (2).

4. Install countershaft and mainshaft bearing cups (2)
into adapter plate (2).
TRANSMISSION CASE
1. Install shift rail bushings with Installer 9368 and
Handle C-4171.
2. Install mainshaft bearing cup with Installer 9373 (2)
and Handle C-4171 (1).

3. Install countershaft bearing cup with Installer 9373
(2) and Handle C-4171 (1).
EXTENSION HOUSING
1. Install countershaft bearing (1) with Installer 9394
(2) and Handle C-4171 (3).

2. Install mainshaft roller bearing race (1) with
Installer 9392 (2) and Handle C-4171 (3).
3. Install mainshaft roller bearing race snap ring.
4. Install shift rail bushings with Installer 9368 and
Handle C-4171.
5. Install reverse idler gear shaft.
6. Install thrust washer, reverse idler gear (3) and
bearing (2).

7. Install idler gear bracket into the tail housing (1).
Install bolts (2) with Loctite
242 and tighten to 24
Nꞏm (18 ft. lbs.).
INPUT SHAFT
1. Install input shaft bearing cup with Installer 9380
(1) and Handle C-4171 (2).

2. Install input shaft bearing (3) with Installer 6052 (2)
and Tube MB991317 (1).
COUNTERSHAFT
1. Install countershaft (3) bearings (2) with Installer
MB998909 (1) and a press.

MAINSHAFT
CAUTION: Mainshaft snap rings are not inter-
changeable.
1. Install mainshaft (3) tapered bearing (2) with
Installer 9377 (1) and a press.
2. Install third gear bearing (2) and spacer (1) on
mainshaft.
