c. Remove control valve assembly fitting bolts A , B and C .
Bolt length, number and location:
d. Remove control valve assembly from transaxle case.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop manual valve.
17. Remove manual valve from control valve assembly.
Check the sliding surfaces of manual valve and valve body,
and replace if damage or dented.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop manual valve.
18. Remove O-ring from terminal body.
19. Remove return spring from servo release accumulator piston.

20. Remove servo release accumulator piston with compressed air.
CAUTION:
Strong flow of air will push the accumulator piston out
along with a splash of ATF. Cover the area with lint-free
paper and blow air little by little to avoid this.
21. Remove N-D accumulator piston and return spring with com-
pressed air.
CAUTION:
Strong flow of air will push the accumulator piston out
along with a splash of ATF. Cover the area with lint-free
paper and blow air little by little to avoid this.
22. Remove O-ring from servo release accumulator piston and N-D
accumulator piston.
CAUTION:
Wrap the removed servo release accumulator piston and N-
D accumulator piston in a lint-free paper.
Check the contact surface of each accumulator piston and tran-
saxle case, and replace if damaged or dented.

Check each return spring, and replace if damaged, deformed or
worn. Refer to AT- 3 6 5 , "
Accumulator" for free length (L1 ) and
length (L
2 ).

(2): Return spring (N-D accumulator)
CAUTION:
Do not remove spring retainer (3).
23. Remove lip seals from oil groove for band servo.
24. Remove low & reverse brake tube and oil sleeve.
25. Remove converter housing according to the following proce-
dures.
a. Remove converter housing mounting bolts.
b. Remove converter housing by tapping it lightly.

c. Remove O-ring from differential lubricant hole.
26. Remove final drive assembly from transaxle case.
27. Remove differential side bearing outer race from transaxle case.
28. Remove differential side bearing adjusting shim from transaxle
case.
29. Remove differential side bearing outer race from converter
housing.

30. Remove RH differential side oil seal with flat-bladed screwdriver
from converter housing.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage converter housing.
31. Remove differential lubricant tube (1) and clips (2) from con-
verter housing.
: Bolt (3)
32. Remove plug from converter housing.
33. Remove O-ring from plug.
34. Remove oil pump assembly according to the following procedures.
a. Remove O-ring from input shaft assembly (high clutch drum).
b. Remove oil pump assembly and gasket from transaxle case.
c. Remove O-ring from oil pump assembly.

d. Remove thrust washer and bearing race from oil pump assem-
bly.
35. Remove brake band according to the following procedures.
a. Loosen lock nut, and then remove anchor end pin and lock nut
as a set from transaxle case.
b. Remove brake band and strut from transaxle case.
To prevent brake linings from cracking or peeling, do not
stretch the flexible band unnecessarily. When removing
brake band, always secure it with a clip as shown in the
figure.
Leave the clip in position after removing brake band.

c. Check brake band facing for damage, cracks, wear or burns.
Replace brake band if necessary.
36. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) and reverse clutch assembly according to the follow-
ing procedures.
a. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) with
reverse clutch assembly.
b. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) (1) from
reverse clutch assembly (2).
c. Remove needle bearing from input shaft assembly (high clutch
drum).
Check needle bearing and input shaft assembly (high clutch
drum), and replace if damaged or worn.

d. Remove high clutch hub (with front sun gear) and needle bear-
ing from input shaft assembly (high clutch drum).
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
e. Remove front sun gear and needle bearing from high clutch hub.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
f. Remove bearing race from front sun gear.
Check bearing race and front sun gear, and replace if dam-
aged or worn.
37. Remove needle bearing from transaxle case.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
38. Apply compressed air and check to see that low & reverse brake
operates.
39. Remove low one-way clutch and front planetary carrier assem-
bly according to the following procedures.
a. Remove snap ring with flat-bladed screwdriver.
