NOTE:

Clean all parts thoroughly in solvent or carburetor

cleaner, and dry with compressed air.

Blow out all passages.

When removing the lower valve body assembly,

replace the following:

-O-rings

-ATF pan gasket

CAUTION: Do not turn over the transmission before

removing the ATF pan.

1. Remove the shift control solenoid/linear solenoid

harness connector stop.

2. Remove the ATF pan (14 bolts).

3. Remove the ATF strainer (three bolts).

4. Remove the lower valve body assembly (six bolts)

while pushing the connector out of the transmission

housing.

5. Clean the inlet opening of the ATF strainer thor-

oughly with compressed air, then check that it is in

good condition, and the inlet opening is not

clogged.

6. Replace the ATF strainer if it is clogged or damaged.

NOTE: The ATF strainer can be reused if it is not

collar , revers e clutc h assembfy , conica l sprin g
washe r an d revers e clutc h distanc e colla r fro m th e
countershaft .
11. Remov e th e 2n d clutc h assembl y fro m th e main -
shaft .
12 . Remov e th e parkin g brak e paw l shaf t sleeve , pawl ,
spring , an d shaf t fro m th e housing .
13 . Remov e th e parkin g gea r fro m th e countershaft ,
an d th e 2 9 m m thrus t washer , thrus t needl e bearin g
an d 2n d gea r fro m th e mainshaf t together .
14 . Remov e th e thrus t needl e bearing , 45. 5 x 6 0 m m
thrus t washer , needl e bearings , 2n d gea r one-wa y
clutc h an d 2n d gea r assembl y fro m th e counter -
shaft .
15 . Remov e th e needl e bearing , thrus t needl e bearin g
an d 2n d gea r colla r fro m th e mainshaft .
16 . Disconnec t th e connector s fro m th e transmissio n
sub-harness.
1. Remov e th e on e bol t securin g th e AT F coole r line s
to th e transmissio n housin g an d th e join t bolts ,
then remov e th e AT F coole r lines .
2 . Remov e th e 3 4 x 1.2 5 m m sealin g bol t an d th e
washe r fro m th e rea r cover , an d th e te n bolt s secur -
in g th e rea r cover .

CAUTION : Mak e sur e tha t th e mainshaf t an d counter -
shaf t spee d sensor s hav e bee n remove d fro m th e
transmissio n housin g befor e removin g th e transmis -
sio n housin g fro m th e torqu e converte r housing .

1. Remove the eight 6 mm bolts and one 8 mm bolt

securing the regulator valve body, then remove the

regulator valve body.

2. Remove the stator shaft, stop shaft, and the regula-

tor separator plate.

3. Remove the three 6 mm bolts and two 8 mm bolts

securing the ATF pump body, then remove the ATF

pump body.

4. Remove the ATF pump driven gear shaft, ATF pump

gears, torque converter check valve, and spring.

5. Remove the four bolts securing the accumulator

cover, then remove the accumulator cover.

NOTE: The accumulator cover is spring loaded. To

prevent stripping the threads in the torque converter

housing, press down on the accumulator cover

while unscrewing the bolts in a crisscross pattern.

6. Remove the eight ATF feed pipes from the accumu-

lator body.

7. Remove the eight 6 mm bolts and seven 6 mm spe-

cial bolts securing the accumulator body, then

remove the accumulator body.

8. Remove the torque converter housing separator

plate with three dowel pins.ProCarManuals.com
