Transmission Housing/Lower Valve Body Assembly

Removal

NOTE:

Clean all parts thoroughly in solvent or carburetor

cleaner, and dry with compressed air.

Blow out all passages.

When removing the lower valve body, replace the fol-

lowing:

O-rings

ATF pan gasket

CAUTION: Do not turn over the transmission before

removing the ATF pan.
1. Remove the shift control solenoid valve connector

from the connector holder, then separate it.

2. Remove the A/T gear position switch cover, then

remove the ATF pan.

7 . Remov e th e harnes s cove r (fou r bolts) .
8 . Remov e th e on e bol t securin g th e shif t contro l
solenoi d valv e harnes s connector , the n remov e th e
connecto r an d pul l th e harnes s out .
9. Remov e th e lowe r valv e bod y assembl y (si x bolts) .
NOTE : Refe r t o pag e 14-110 ; Lowe r Valv e Bod y

Rear Cover

Removal

NOTE:

Clean all parts thoroughly in solvent or carburetor cleaner, and dry with compressed air.

Blow out all passages.

When removing the rear cover, replace the following:

O-rings

Mainshaft and countershaft locknuts

Conical spring washers

LOCKNUTS

Replace.

Mainshaft locknut has left-hand threads.

9 . Remov e th e 1s t clutc h assembly , thrus t washer , thrus t
needl e bearin g an d 1s t gea r fro m th e mainshaft .
10 . Remov e th e 1s t gear , one-wa y clutch , needl e bear -
ings , 1s t gea r colla r an d parkin g gea r fro m th e coun -
tershaft .
11. Remov e th e thrus t washe r an d 1s t gea r colla r fro m
th e mainshaft .
12 . Remov e th e parkin g brak e pawl , shaft , spring , an d
stoppe r fro m th e transmissio n housing .

Removal

NOTE:

sensor connectors .
2. Remov e th e connecto r holde r an d connecto r brackets .
3 . Remov e th e countershaf t spee d senso r an d main -
shaf t spee d senso r fro m th e transmissio n housing .
4 . Remov e th e te n bolt s securin g th e transmissio n hous -
ing , the n remov e th e 1 0 m m bol t an d thre e 8 m m
bolt s securin g th e transmissio n housin g t o th e
torqu e converte r housin g side .
5. Instal l th e specia l too l o n th e transmissio n housing ,
then remov e th e transmissio n housin g a s shown .
CAUTION : Mak e sur e tha t th e mainshaf t an d coun -
tershaf t spee d sensor s hav e bee n remove d fro m th e
transmissio n housin g befor e removin g th e trans -
missio n housin g fro m th e torqu e converte r housing .
