• Apply compressed airtooil hole from inside offorward
clutch drum.Makesurethere isno air leakage.

• Take carewithdirection ofoil seal.
• Apply ATF toboth parts.

4. Align notch inforward clutchpistonwithgroove inforward
clutch drum.
5. Install returnsprings onpiston.
6. Install spring retainer onreturn springs.

pressing returnsprings.

13. Measure clearance betweenforwardclutchretaining plate•
and snap ring.
If not within allowable limit,select proper retaining plate.

Specified clearance:
Standard 0.45-0.85 mm(0.0177 -0.0335 in)
Allowable limit1.85mm(0.0728 in)
Forward clutchretaining plate:
Refer toSOS, AT-1G8.

14. Check operation offorward clutch.
Refer to"DISASSEMBLY" in"Forward ClutchandOverrun
Clutch", AT-102.

compressing returnsprings.

• Set Tool directly abovereturnsprings.
• Donot expand snapringexcessively.

6. Remove springretainer andreturn springs.

• Donot remove returnsprings fromspring retainer.

7. Apply compressed airtooil hole oftransmission casewhile
holding piston.
8. Remove pistonfromtransmission case
by
turning it.
9. Remove D-ringandoilseal from piston.

• Take carewiththedirection ofthe oilseal.
• Apply ATFtoO-ring andoilseal.

2. Stand transmission case.
3. Install piston assembly ontransmission casewhile turning
it slowly.

• Apply ATFtoinner surface oftransmission case.

4. Install returnsprings andspring retainer onpiston.
