3. Check torque converter one-wayclutchusingcheck toolas
shown atleft.
a. Insert checktoolintothegroove ofbearing supportbuiltinto
one-way clutchouterrace.
b. While fixingbearing supportwithcheck tool,rotate one-way
clutch spline usingflat-bladed screwdriver.
c. Check innerracerotates clockwise only.Ifnot, replace
torque converter assembly.

• Donot reuse oilpan bolts.

8. Check foreign materials inoil pan tohelp determine cause•
of malfunction. Ifthe fluid isvery dark, smells burned, or
contains foreignparticles, thefrictional material(clutches,
band) mayneed replacement. Atacky filmthat willnotwipe
clean indicates varnishbuildup.Varnish cancause valves,
servo andclutches tostick andcaninhibit pumppressure.

• Iffrictional materialisdetected, replaceradiator afterrepair
of AlT. Refer toLC section ("Radiator", "ENGINECOOLING
SYSTEM").

13. Remove O-ringsfromSIRaccumulator piston.

compressed air.

it is difficult to
lift
up byhand, tapfinal drive slightly with
a soft hammer (Exceptmodel34X81).

26. Remove differential sidebearing outerracefrom transmis-
sion case (Model 34X81).
27. Remove differential sidebearing adjusting shimfromtrans- •
mission case.
28. Remove differential sidebearing outerracefrom converter
housing (Model34X81).
29. Remove oilseal from converter housingusingascrew-
driver.

• Becareful nottodamage case.

driver.
31. Remove oiltube from converter housing.
32. Remove oilpump according tothe following procedures.
a. Remove O-ringfrominput shaft.
b. Remove oilpump assembly fromtransmission case.
c. Remove thrustwasher andbearing racefrom oilpump
assembly.
