For safety and security
The intrusion sensor detects intruders or movement in the vehicle.
This system is designed to deter and prevent vehicle theft but does
not guarantee absolute security against all intrusions.
QSetting the intrusion sensor
The intrusion sensor will be set automatically when the alarm i s set.

QCanceling the intrusion sensor
If you are leaving pets or other moving things inside the vehic le,
make sure to disable the intrusion sensor before setting the al arm,
as they will respond to movement inside the vehicle.
Turn the power switch off.
A message is displayed on the multi-information display for app roxi-
mately 4 seconds asking if you wish to cancel the intrusion sen sor.
Press or of the
meter control switch on the
steering wheel, select “Yes”
and then press .
If an operation is not performed
for approximately 5 seconds,
the message will be automati-
cally extinguished and the intru-
sion sensor will not be canceled.
The intrusion sensor will revert to on each time the power swit ch is
turned to ON mode.

QWhen the message asking if you wish to cancel the intrusion sensor is
not displayed
The message may not be displayed if other message is displayed. In this
case, turn the power switch to ON mode, follow the instructions on the display
and turn the power switch off again.
Q Canceling and automatic re-enabling of the intrusion sensor
O The alarm will still be set even when the intrusion sensor is canceled.
O After the intrusion sensor is canceled, pressing the power switch or unlock-
ing the doors using the entry function or wireless remote contr ol will re-
enable the intrusion sensor.
O The intrusion sensor will automatically be re-enabled when the alarm sys-
tem is deactivated.
Q Intrusion sensor detection considerations
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
• The movement of people outside the vehicle
O People or pets are in the vehicle.
O A side window is open.
In this case, the sensor may detect the
following:
• Wind or the movement of objects
such as leaves and insects inside the
vehicle
• Ultrasonic waves emitted from
devices such as the intrusion sensors
of other vehicles

O Unstable items, such as dangling acces-
sories or clothes hanging on the coat
hooks, are in the vehicle.

For safety and security
OThe vehicle is inside an automatic or high-pressure car wash.
O The vehicle experiences impacts, such as hail, lightning strikes, and other
kinds of repeated impacts or vibrations.
O The vehicle is parked in a place where
extreme vibrations or noises occur, such
as in a parking garage.
O Ice or snow is removed from the vehicle,
causing the vehicle to receive repeated
impacts or vibrations.
NOTICE
Q To ensure the intrusion sensor functions correctly
O Installing accessories other than genuine Toyota parts or leaving objects
between the driver’s seat and front passenger’s seat may reduce the
detection performance.

properly, do not touch or cover them.
O Do not spray air fresheners or other
products directly into the sensor holes.

Gasoline engine
Electric motor (traction motor)
The plug-in hybrid system is a system excellent in both econom-
ical efficiency of electric vehicles and practicality of hybrid vehi-
cles.
O EV driving can be performed using electricity charged from an
external power source.*
O If the amount of electricity remaining in the hybrid battery (traction
battery) becomes low, the vehicle is automatically controlled i n
such a way that it can be driven as a hybrid vehicle through th e
joint use of the gasoline engine.
*: The EV driving range will vary in accordance with conditions s uch as
vehicle speed, the amount of charge remaining in the hybrid bat tery
(traction battery) and the usage of the air conditioning system . The gaso-
line engine may also be used simultaneously in accordance with driving
conditions.

The plug-in hybrid system operates in the following modes.
The multi-information display can be used to check which mode the plug-in
hybrid system is currently being driven in. (P. 220)
EV mode
When a sufficient amount of electricity is remaining after
charging
*1, EV driving is performed using electricity stored in the
hybrid battery (traction battery).

When in EV mode, the EV drive mode indicator illuminates.
*1: The amount of remaining charge can be checked on the multi-informa-
tion display etc. (P. 232)
*2: Depending on the situation, EV driving may be canceled and both gaso-
line engine and electric motor are used. (P. 94)

EV City mode (P. 8 8 )
When a sufficient amount of electricity for EV driving is remaining in
the hybrid battery (traction battery)
*1, the operation mode can be
switched to EV City mode.
EV City mode limits motor output and minimizes the operation of
the gasoline engine.
*2 Therefore, the vehicle can be driven with
only electric motor (traction motor) in city areas, etc.
When in EV City mode, the EV City mode indicator illuminates.
*1: The amount of remaining charge can be checked on the multi-informa-
tion display etc. (P. 232)
*2: When acceleration is required, fully depress the accelerator pedal to
start the gasoline engine.
HV mode
When in HV mode, the vehicle is driven using both the gasoline
engine and electric motor (traction motor). (P. 9 2 )
OIf electricity needed for EV driving in EV mode is not remaining,
the operation mode will be automatically switched to HV mode.
OThe operation mode can be switched to HV mode at any timing
by operating the switch to keep electricity for EV driving etc.

(P. 88). Switching to HV mode when driving on a highway or
when driving uphill is recommended in order to conserve battery
power.
When in HV mode, the EV drive mode indicator and EV City mode indi-
cator turn off.
*: The EV driving range may reduce even after switching to HV mode.
