7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
Follow the procedure below to
restart the engine after the system
is activated.
1 Turn the engine switch to ACC
or OFF.
2 Restart the engine.
Fuel pump shut off sys-
tem
When the vehicle sustains an
impact in an accident, etc., the
fuel pump shut off system
operates to stop supplying fuel
in order to minimize fuel leak-
age.

■Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle. If you find that fuel has leaked onto
the ground, the fuel system has been
damaged and is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.

■Vacuum pressure system warning light
■High coolant temperature warning light (warning buzzer)
If a warning light turns on or a war ning buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights
comes on or flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then goes
off, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the system.
However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
Actions to the warning lights or warning buzzers

(red)
Indicates that:
 The brake fluid level is low; or
 The brake system is malfunctioning
This light also comes on when the parking brake is not released. If
the light turns off after the parki ng brake is fully released the sys-
tem is operating normally.
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer. Continuing to drive the
vehicle may be dangerous.

Indicates a malfunction in the vacuum pressure system.
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

Indicates a malfunction in:
 The ABS; or
 The brake assist system

Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) sys-
tem
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

When illuminated, indicates:
 Malfunction of the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system;
 Malfunction of the TRC (Traction Control) system; or
 Malfunction of the hill-start assist control system
Depending on the situation, the light may illuminate even when
there is no malfunction. It does not indicate a malfunction if the
light turns off after a short time.
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
When flashing, indicates:
 Indicates that the TRC, VSC or brake LSD function is oper-
ating. Always drive safely. Driving recklessly may lead to
an accident.
Drive with extra care when the indicator is flashing.

■Low fuel level warning light (warning buzzer)
■Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light (warning
buzzer)*1, 2
*1: The front passenger’s seat belt reminder light is located on the overhead con-
sole.
*2: Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer:
The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert the
driver and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the seat belt is
unfastened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time after the
vehicle reaches a certain speed.

Indicates that the automatic transmission fluid temperature is too
high
 Stop the vehicle in a safe place and shift the shift lever to P.
If the light goes off after a little while, the vehicle can be
driven. If the light does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
Warning lightDetails/Actions
Indicates that a door or the trunk is not fully closed
 Check that both side doors and the trunk are closed.
Warning lightDetails/Actions
Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 7.0 L (1.8 gal., 1.5
Imp. gal.) or less
 Refuel the vehicle.

Warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their seat belts
 Fasten the seat belt.
If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front passen-
ger’s seat belt also needs to be fastened to make the warn-
ing light (warning buzzer) turn off.

The rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzze r sounds to alert the rear passenger
that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the seat belt is unfastened, the buzzer
sounds intermittently for a certain period of time, after the vehicle reaches a certain
speed.
■Conventional cruise control indicator (if equipped)
■BSD/RCTA warning light (if equipped) (warning buzzer)
■SRH warning light (if equipped) (warning buzzer)

When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
 Natural causes (P.343)
 Flat tire (P.345)
 Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level. The
light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the light does
not turn off even if the tire inflation pressure is adjusted,
have the system checked by any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
 Have the system checked by any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
Warning lightDetails/Actions
When the light comes on:
The accumulated particulate matter exceeds the specified limit.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer or drive the
vehicle under the following conditions after the engine has been
warmed up completely.
 Drive at a speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) or higher.
 Periodically release the accelerator pedal.
 The light will turn off after approximately 30 minutes. If the
light does not turn off, inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
When the light blinks:
Indicates a malfunction in the GPF system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
