Select thero ute type.
If th ere is no route yet,th e next route calcu‐
lation will be with thero ute type.
If a route has already been created, thero ute
is calculated on the basis of the new route
type.

The following route types are available:
R Fast
Aro ute with a quick journey time is calcula‐
te d.
R Short
Aro ute with a sho rtdriving dis tance is calcu‐
la te d.
R Eco An economical
route is calculated. The jour‐
ney time may be som ewhat longer than for
qu icke rro utes.
R Trailer
The option is available if a trailer has been
coupled with theve hicle.
A prom ptis shown in the multimedia sy stem.
Confirm the prom pt.
The route is optimised for trailer operation.

The route is calculated with the cur rently set

Tr af fic messages via Live Traf fic Information
or FM RDS-TMC are take n into account

Live Traf fic Information and FM RDS-TMC are
not available in all countries. R

A prom ptappears when a new route is de tec‐
te d with a shor ter journey time based on traf‐
fi c re ports. You can continue touse the cur‐
re nt route or use the dynamic route ins tead
(/ page 358).
R Off
No tr affic re ports are take n into account for
th ero ute.
Calculating alternative routes
% IfOptimised for EQ is switched onforthe
ro ute calculation, no alternative routes are
calculated (/ page 355). #
Activate Suggest alternative route.

Switch Avoid all on or off.

ing a personal POI: the USB device conta ins

R The USB device is connec ted with the multi‐
media sy stem.
R The category in which the personal POI

Announcements #
Switch No driving recomm. on or off.
No navi gation announcements are issued
when the display button is switched on. #
Toselect a navigation announcement:
select an option #under theDRIVING REC-
OMMEND. category.
The following options are available:
R Acoustic signal only
In place of the spoken navigation
announcement you hear a gong. The
gong signals an upcoming driving
manoeuv reand also sounds during the
driving manoeuvre.
R Reduced driving recomm.
If a navigation announcement is available,
yo u hear a brief announcement, e.g. "turn
ri ght".
R Detailed driving recomm. If a navigation announcement is
available
and theAnnounce street names option is
switched on, you hear a co mplete
announcement, e.g. "In 200 m at the end
of thest re et turn right into Station Road". #
Tohave stre et names announced during
a driving manoeuvre: switch onAnnounce
street names. #
Select Reduced driving recomm. orDetailed

Activate Activate commuter route .
The display button is acti vated. The naviga‐
tion sy stem automatically de tects that the
ve hicle is on a commuter route. It automati‐
cally starts a route guidance without voice
output.
Fo rth e daily commuter route, traf fic inci‐
dents on thero ute are also repor ted when
driving without active route guidance.
St arting the automatic service station

Re quirements: R
ATTENTION ASSIST and theSuggest rest
area function are activated (/ page246).
R There are se rvice stations along thero ute
section ahead.
Driving situation
The following notification is shown in the media
display ATTENTION ASSIST Tap here to search
for rest areas. #
Confirm the notification.
The service station sear ch starts. The availa‐
ble service stations along thero ute or in the
vicinity of theve hicle's cur rent position are

integrated in theve hicle when driving, you
will be distracted from the tra ffic situation.
This could also cause youto lose control of

ve hicle whilst paying attention toroad
and traf fic conditions and ope rate the
equipment with theve hicle stationar y. Yo

operating the multimedia sy stem.
Ro ute guidance begins once a route has been
calculated. The
road and traf fic ru les and regulations alw ays
ha ve priority over multimedia sy stem driving
instructions.
Driving instructions are:

R Lane recommendations
If yo u do not follow the driving instructions or if
yo u lea vethe calculated route, a new route is
calculated automaticall y.
Driving instructions may di ffer from the actual
ro ad and traf fic conditions if:
R The route is diver ted
R The direction of a one-w aystre et has been
ch anged
Fo rth is reason, you must alw ays obser veroad
and traf fic ru les and regulations during your
journey as well as the pr evailing traf fic condi‐
tions.
