Parking is over, but the parking
manoeuvre still needs to be com-
pleted by the driver.
❍ The steering wheel has been
gras ped during the manoeuvre.
❍ The revers e has been dis engaged
during the manoeuvre and the ve-

FRONT AND REAR PARKING SENS ORS
(combined with Ma gic Parking )
( for vers ions/markets , where provided)
The parking sens ors provide the driver with di stance in-
formation when approaching obs tacles in front of and be-
hind the vehicle (ver sions with 4 front and 4 rear sens ors).
They are always combined with the Magic Parking func-
tion. The system therefore provides a further aid during
parking manoeuvre s becaus e it allows the identification
of obs tacles outside of the driver’ s field of vis ion. The driver i
s notified of the pres ence and distance of the
obs tacle from the car by an acoustic signal with a fre-
quency which varie s depending on the di stance from the
obs tacle (as the distance fr
om the obs tacle decreases the
frequency of the acous tic signal increa se s).
S ENS ORS
In order to meas ure the distance of obs tacles, the system
u se s 4 s ensors located in the front bumper (where pro-
vided) fig. 82 and 4 s ensors located in the rear bumper
fig. 83.

Version with 8 sensors
On the version with 4 front sens ors and 4 rear s ensors, the
system is activated when revers e gear is engaged or by
pressing the button fig. 84. If there ha s been a reque st to
activate the Magic Parking function, the front and rear
s ens ors are not automaticall y activated during the search
for a parking space, but can be activated b y pre ssing the
s pecial button
tor by engaging revers e gear when the
s peed is below around 15 km/h.
When revers e gear is released, the front and rear s ensors
remain activated until a speed of around 15 km/h i s ex-
ceeded to allow the parking manoeuvre to be completed.
The system can als o be activated by pressing the button
tin the central panel: a warning light in the button
s witches on when the system is activated.
The sens ors are deactivated by pressing the button
tagain or when a speed of 15 km/h is exceeded: thewarning light in the button i
s off when the system is not
active.
When the s ensors are activated, the system starts to pro-
duce acous tic signals from the front or rear buzzers as s oon
a s an obs tacle is detected with the frequency increasing as
the obs tacle gets closer.
When the obs tacle is less than about 30 cm away , the
s ound becomes continuous. Depending on the po sition of
the obs tacle (in front or behind) the sound is emitted by
the corres ponding buzzers (front or rear). The obs tacle
clos est to the car is signalled.
The acoustic signal stops immediately if the distance of
the obs tacle incr
eases. The s ound cy cle remains constant
if the dis tance meas ured by the centre s ensors remains un-
changed, whils t if this s ituation occurs for the side sen-
s ors , the s ignal is interrupted after about 3 s econds (for
example, to prevent s ignals in the cas e of manoeuvres
alongs ide walls ).
fig. 84L0E0249m
The responsibility for parking and other dan-
gerous manoeuvres always and in every case
lies with the driver. While carrying out these ma-
noeuvres, always make sure that no people (espe-
cially children) or animals are in the area con-
cerned. Parking sensors are designed to assist dri-
vers: in all cases, you must always pay the utmost
attention during potentially dangerous manoeuvres,
even when these are carried out a low speed.

ACOUS TIC SIGNAL
The information concerning the pre sence and dis tance of
an obs tacle from the car is transmitted to the driver by
means of acous tic signals from 2 buzzers installed in the
passenger compartment:
❍ a front buzzer warns of the presence of obs tacles at the
front and a buzzer located at the rear warns of the pres-
ence of obs tacles at the rear. Thi s permits the driver to
perceive the direction (front/rear) of the ob stacles .
Operation i s automaticall y activated when rever se gear
i s engaged.
The acou stic signal:
❍ increas es a s the dis tance between the car and the ob-
s tacle decreas es;
❍ becomes continuous when the dis tance between the car
and the obs tacle is less than ar
ound 30 cm and stops
immediately if the distance increas es;
❍ is cons tant if the dis tance is unvaried; if this s ituation
occurs for the s ide sens ors, the indication will s top af-
ter about 3 s econds to avoid, for example, warning in-
dications in the event of manoeuvre s alongs ide walls .
The sensor must be clean of mud, dirt, snow
or ice in order for the system to operate cor-
rectly. Be careful not to scratch or damage the
sensors while cleaning them. Avoid using dry, rough
or hard cloths. The sensors must be washed using
clean water, with the addition of car shampoo if nec-
essary. When using special washing equipment such
as high pressure jets or steam cleaning, clean the
sensors very quickly keeping the jet more than 10
cm away.
Only have the bumpers repainted or any re-
touches to the paintwork in the area of the
sensors carried out by a Lancia Dealership.
If the paint is incorrectly applied this could ad-
versely affect the operation of the parking sensors.
S ENS OR OPERATING RANGE
The sens ors allow the system to check the front part (ver-
s ion with 8 s ensors) and rear part of the vehicle.
Their pos ition covers the middle and s ide areas of the front
and rear of the car. If an obs tacle is located in a middle area,
it is detected when the dis tance is less than about 0.9 m
(front) and 1.30 m (rear).
If the obs tacle is located at the s ide, it is detected at dis -
tances of less than 0.6 m.

OPERATION WITH TRAILER
The operation of the sens ors is automaticall y deactivated
when the trailer’ s electric plug i s in serted in the car’ s tow
hook socket. The sens ors are automatically reactivated
when the trailer’ s cable plug is removed.
IMPORTANT If y ou wish to leave the tow hook fitted when
there is no trailer, it is advisable to go to a Lancia Deal-
ers hip to have the system updated becau se the tow hook
could be detected as an obstacle by the centre s ensors.
FAULT INDIC AT I O NS
Either symbol
S(if the Magic Parking system is fitted),
or symbol
t(if the Magic Parking i s not fitted) will light
up on the di splay in combination with a me ssage or with
ins trument panel
èwarning light if parking s
ensor faults
are detected while revers e is engaged.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
During parking manoeuvre s, pay the utmos t attention to
any obs tacles that could be located above or below the s en-
s ors .
Under certain circum stances close objects located in front
of or behind the vehicle ma y not be detected and could
therefore caus e damage to the vehicle or be damaged
thems elves. The following condition
s ma y influence the performance
of the parking a ssistance system:
❍ Reduced sens or sens itivity and a reduction in the park-
ing assi stance system performance could be due to the
pres ence on the surface of the sens ors of: ice, s now
,
mud, thick paint.
❍ The sens ors detect a non-exi stent obs tacle (echo in-
terference) due to mechanical interference, for exam-
ple when was hing the vehicle, rain ( strong wind), hail.
❍ The indication s s ent by the sensors can als o be altered
b y the pres ence of ultras onic devices (e.g. truck pneu-
matic brake systems or pneumatic drill s) near the car.
❍ The performance of the parking a ssistance system may
als o be affected by the position of the s ensors. For ex-
ample, if the geometr y is altered (as a result of wear of
the shock abs orbers, su spens ion) or the ty res ar
e
changed, the vehicle i s too heavily laden, specific tun-
ing is carried out that lower s the vehicle.
❍ The detection of obs tacles to the upper part of the ve-
hicle is not guaranteed a s the system is designed to de-
tect obs tacles that could impact the lower part of the
vehicle.

INSTALLING ELEC TRICAL/
ELEC TRONIC DEVICES
The electric/electronic device s ins talled subs equent to the
purchas e of the car and included in the after-s ales s er-
vice mus t be marked:
Fiat Group Automobiles S .p.A. authoris es the in stallation
of trans ceiver device s on condition that s uch installations
are carried out in a workmanlike fas hion, following the
manufacturer’ s ins tructions , at a specialis ed centre.
IMPORTANT Traffic authoritie s ma y not allow the vehi-
cle on the road if devices are fitted that modify vehicle
s pecifications . This may also invalidate the warranty in
relation to faults caused by the change or either directly
or indirectly related to it. Fiat Group Automobile s S .p.A.
s hall not be liable for damage caus ed by the ins tallation
of accessories either not supplied or recommended b y Fi-
at Group Automobile s S .p.A. and/or not in stalled in com-

ACCESSORIES PURCHASED
BY THE OWNER
If after bu ying the car, you decide to in stall electrical ac-
cessories that require a permanent electric supply (radio,
s atellite anti-theft system, etc.) or acce ssories that in an y
cas e burden the electric s upply, contact a Lancia Dealer-
s hip, whos e qualified pers onnel, besides s ugges ting the
mos t suitable devices from Lineaccessori Lancia, will al-
s o evaluate the overall electric cons umption, checking
whether the car’ s electrical system is able to withstand the
load required, or whether it need s to be integrated with a
more powerful batter y.
Take care when fitting additional spoilers,
alloy wheels or non-standard wheel hubs:
they could reduce the ventilation of the brakes
and affect efficiency under sharp, repeated brak-
ing or on long descents. Make sure that nothing ob-
structs the pedal stroke (mats, etc.).

REFUELLING THE CAR
OPERATION AT LOW TEMPERATURES
If the outside temperature is very low, dies el thickens due
to the formation of paraffin clot s with cons equent defec-
tive operation of the fuel s upply system.
In order to avoid the se problems , different ty pes of dies el
are dis tributed according to the s eason: summer ty pe, win-
ter ty pe and arctic ty pe (cold/mountain area s). If refu-
elling with dies el fuel whose specifications are not suitable
for the current temperature, it is advisable to mix
TUTELA DIE SEL ART additive in the proportions s hown
on the container. Pour the additive into the tank before
the dies el fuel.
When us ing or parking the vehicle for a long time in the
mountains or cold areas , it is advis able to refuel us ing lo-
cally available die sel fuel.
In this case, it is also advis able to keep the tank over 50%
full.
RADIO TRANS
MITTERS AND MOBILE PHONE S
Radio trans mitter equipment (vehicle mobile phone s, CB
radios , amateur radio etc.) cannot be u sed ins ide the car
unless a s eparate aerial i s mounted on the r
oof.
IMPORTANT The us e of such devices inside the passenger
compartment (without a separate aerial), may cause the
car’ s electronic systems to malfunction. This could com-
promis e safety in addition to cons tituting a potential haz-
ard for passengers .
In addition, tran smission and reception of the se devices
may be affected by the shielding effect of the vehicle body .
A s far as the us e of EC-approved mobile phone s i s con-
cerned (GSM, GPRS , UMTS ), follow the u sage ins truc-
tions pr
ovided b y the mobile phone manufacturer.
