IMPORTANT The steering may become slightly stiff fol-
lowing parking manoeuvres involving a lot of steering.
This is normal and is caused by a system to prevent the
motor from overheating. No servicing is required. The
power steering system will s tart working normall y again
the next time the car is used.TPMS SYSTEM
(Tyre Pressure Monitoring System)
(for vers ions/markets , where provided)
The car may be equipped with a TPMS (Tyre Pre ssure
Monitoring System). This system compris es a radio fre-
quency transmitter fitted to each wheel (on the wheel rim
ins ide the ty re), which i s able to send information on the
t y re inflation pressure of each wheel to the control unit.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE TPMS
The fault indication s are not s tored and will therefore
not be dis played after the engine ha s been s witched off
and then on again. If the fault condition s pers is t, the con-
trol unit will s end the relative indication s to the ins tru-
ment panel only after the car ha s been in motion for a
s hort time.
Before starting any servicing operation, stop
the engine and remove the key from the ig-
nition switch to operate the steering lock, par-
ticularly when the wheels do not touch the ground.
If this is not possible (i.e. if the key must be kept
in the MAR position or the engine must be kept run-
ning), remove the main electric power steering sys-
tem fuse.

128KNOWING YOUR CAR
The TPMS cannot indicate sudden tyre pres-
sure drops (for example when a tyre blows
out). In this case stop the car, braking with
care and avoiding sharp steering actions.
Replacing the normal tyres with winter tyres
and vice versa requires the inspection of the
TPMS, which should only be carried out by
a Lancia Dealership.
The TPMS requires the use of specific equip-
ment. Contact a Lancia Dealership to find out
which accessories are compatible with the
system (wheels, hub caps etc.). The use of other ac-
cessories may affect the normal operation of the sys-
tem.
Tyre inflation pressure may vary according
to outdoor temperature. The TPMS may tem-
porarily indicate insufficient pressure. In this
case, check the tyre pressures with the tyres cold
and, if necessary, restore the inflation values.
The tyre repair kit (Fix&Go Automatic) pro-
vided with the car is compatible with the
TPMS sensors; using sealants not equiva-
lent with that in the original kit may adversely af-
fect its operation. If sealants not equivalent with
the original one are used, it is recommended to
have the TPMS sensors checked by a qualified re-
pair centre.

1If the vehicle is equipped with the TPMS,
when a tyre is removed, it is advisable to re-
place the rubber gasket for the valve. Contact
a Lancia Dealership.
If the vehicle is equipped with the TPMS, tyre
and/or rim fitting/removal operations require
specific precautions. To avoid damaging the
sensors or fitting them incorrectly, tyre and/or rims
fitting/removal operations should be carried out on-
ly by specialists. Contact a Lancia Dealership.
Particularly strong radiofrequency interfer-
ence may cause the TPMS to operate incor-
rectly. This condition is indicated to the dri-
ver by the
nwarning light or symbol lighting up on
the display together with a dedicated message.
The message will disappear automatically as soon
as the interference ceases to disturb the system.

PARKING SENSORS
(for versions/markets where provided)
The parking s ensors are located in the rear bumper fig. 77
and their function i s to inform the driver, through an in-
termittent acous tic signal, of the pres ence of obstacles be-
hind the car.
A CTIVATION/DEAC TIVATION
The sens ors are automatically activated when revers e gear
i s engaged. A s the obs tacle behind the car gets closer, the
acous tic signal become s more frequent.
fig. 77L0E0059m
A COUS TIC SIGNAL
When revers e gear is engaged and there is an obstacle
behind the car an acou stic signal is activated and the sig-
nal varies as the dis tance of the ob stacle from the bumper
varies .
The frequency of the acoustic signal:
❍ increas es a s the dis tance between the car and the ob-
s tacle decreas es;
❍ becomes continuous when the dis tance between the car
and the ob stacle is less than around 30 cm and stops
immediately if the distance increas es;
❍ is cons tant if the dis tance is unchanged.
Detection distances
Centre operating radiu s 140 cm
S ide operating radiu s 60 cm
If several obs tacles ar
e detected by the sensors, only the
neares t one is considered.

FAILURE INDICAT I O NS
Any faults in the parking s ensor system are indicated,
when revers e gear is engaged, by the
èwarning light on
the ins trument panel lighting up and a dedicated me ssage
appearing in the multifunction di splay .
OPERATION WITH TRAILER
S ens or operation i s automaticall y deactivated when the
trailer’ s electric cable plug is fitted in the car’s tow hook
s ocket.
The sens ors are automaticall y reactivated when the trail-
er’ s cable plug is removed.
For correct operation, sensors must always
be clean from mud, dirt, snow or ice. Be care-
ful not to scratch or damage the sensors while
cleaning them. Avoid using dry, rough or hard
cloths. The sensors must be washed using clean wa-
ter, with the addition of car shampoo if necessary.
When using special washing equipment such as high
pressure jets or steam cleaning, clean the sensors
very quickly keeping the jet more than 10 cm away.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
❍ When parking, watch out for ob stacles that may be
above or under the sens ors.
❍ Sometimes , objects placed clos e to the car are not de-
tected and could therefore cau se damage to the car or
be damaged them selves .

The following conditions ma y influence the performance
of the parking a ssistance system:
❍ Reduced sens or sens itivity and a reduction in the park-
ing assi stance system performance could be due to the
pres ence on the s urface of the s ensor of:
ice, snow, mud, thick paint.
❍ The sensor may detect a non-existent obstacle (echo
interference) due to mechanical interference s, for ex-
ample when was hing the vehicle, rain ( strong wind),
hail.
❍ The indications s ent b y the s ensor can als o be altered
b y the pres ence of ultras ound devices (e.g. pneumat-
ic brake systems or pneumatic drill s) near the car.
❍ The performance of the parking assi stance system could
be affected by the position of the s ensors, e.g. by alter-
ing attitude (due to wear of shock abs orbers and sus-
pens ion) or by changing ty res, overloading the car or set-
ting special attitudes that r
equire the car to be lowered.
Parking manoeuvres, however, are always
the driver’s responsibility. While carrying out
these manoeuvres, always make sure that no
people (especially children) or animals are in the
area concerned. Parking sensors are designed to as-
sist drivers: anyway, you must always pay the ut-
most attention during potentially dangerous ma-
noeuvres, even when these are carried out at a low
speed.

The ultimate responsibility when parking,
however, always rests with the driver. Dur-
ing the entire manoeuvre it always necessary
to make sure that there are no people or animals in
the space.
Parking sensors are a driving aid for the dri-
ver, who should continuously pay attention
to all potentially dangerous manoeuvres, even
at low speed: the Magic Parking system DOES NOT
adjust the vehicle speed in manoeuvres; the control
of the acceleration speed and braking remain the re-
sponsibility of the driver.
MAGIC PARKING
(for vers ions/markets , where provided)
The Magic Parking system notifies the driver of a free par-
allel parking space that is a suitable length for the vehi-
cle; it helps the driver when manoeuvring b y automati-
cally managing the movement of the steering wheel. During the manoeuvre the driver is
also assi sted by infor-
mation from the parking sens ors (4 front and 4 rear) which
provide further di stance information when approaching
obs tacles in front of and behind the vehicle.
When looking for a parking s pace it is helpful if the front
and rear sens ors are not activated, whils t during the ma-
noeuvre, the front and rear s ensors will be automatically
activated when revers e gear is engaged.
