the engine compartment to avoid burns. Do
not place your hands near the engine fan as
it may be activated even when the switch is disabled.
Wait for engine cooling.
Pay attention to scarves, ties and other loose
fitting garments. If they accidentally touch
moving parts, they may get dragged with se-
rious risks for those who wear them.

Proceed as follows:
❍ Hold the bonnet up with one hand and with the oth-
er remove rod C from hou sing D and put it back into
its catch;
❍ Lower the bonnet to approximatel y 20 centimetres
from the engine compartment and let it drop. Make
s ure that the bonnet is completely closed and not on-
l y fas tened by the safety catch by trying to open it. If
it is not fully closed, open the bonnet and repeat the
procedure. Do not simply press it.
For safety reasons, the bonnet must always
be properly closed while driving. Make sure
that the bonnet is perfectly closed and that
the lock is engaged. If you discover that the bonnet
is not perfectly closed during travel, stop immedi-
ately and close the bonnet in the correct manner.

1HEADLIGHTS
LIGHT BEAM ALIGNMENT
The correct aiming of the headlights i s important for the
comfort and s afety of not only the driver but all other road
u sers . This is als o covered by a specific rule of the high-
way code.
The headlights must be correctly aimed to guarantee the
bes t vis ibility conditions for all drivers while travelling
with headlights on.
Contact a Lancia Dealer ship to have the headlight s prop-
erly adjus ted.
Check beam alignment every time the load or its distrib-
ution changes .
ANGLE COMPENS ATION fig .69
The car is fitted with an electric headlight alignment sys-
tem. This system i s operational with the ignition key
turned to MAR and the dipped beam headlight s on.
When the car is loaded, it slopes backward s. This mean s
the headlight beam ri se s.
In this case, it is necessary to adjust the beams using but-
tons A and B.

ADJUSTING THE HEADLIGHTS ABROAD
Dipped headlights are adjusted to drive in the country
where the vehicle wa s originally purchased. When trav-
elling in countrie s with oppos ite driving direction, to avoid
dazzling the drivers on the other side of the road, y ou need
to cover area s of the headlight according to the Highwa y
code of the countr y y ou are travelling in.
ADAPTIVE LIGHTS (AFS - Adaptive Xenon Lig ht)
This is a system combined with Xenon headlight s which
directs the main light beam and continuous ly and auto-
matically adapts it to the driving conditions round
bends /when cornering. The system directs the light beam
to light up the road in the bes t way, taking into account
the speed of the vehicle, the bend/corner angle and the
s peed of s teering. Activating
/deactivating the system fig . 70
The adaptive light s are automaticall y activated when the
car is s tarted. In this s ituation the LED (amber) on but-
ton A will r
emain off.
Press button A to deactivate the adaptive light s (if acti-
vated); they will be deactivated and the LED on button
A will come on cons tantly. Press AFS button again to turn
the adaptive light s on (LED off on the button).
In the event of a system failure, an indication i s provided
on the ins trument panel by the flashing of
fwarning light
or the fsymbol appearing on the di

1DST SYSTEM
(Dynamic Steering Torque)
This system is incorporated with the E SP control unit and
s ugges ts s teering corrections whilst driving via the electric
power steering. The system applies a torque to the steer-
ing wheel which increa se s the s afety perception of the ve-
hicle, maintaining control of the steering and making the
intervention of the Advanced ES P system less intrus ive.
SPORT FUNCTION
(for versions/markets , where provided)
The vehicle ma y be equipped with a system that allows a
choice between two s ty les of driving, normal and sports .
Pressing the S PORT button fig. 71 produces s porty dri-
ving featuring higher acceleration re spons e and more ef-
fort required on the s teering wheel to produce thi s effect.
When the function is active, “S” is lit up in the ins trument
panel. Press the button again to turn the function off and
re store the normal driving setting.

Under no circumstances should aftermarket
operations be carried out involving steering
system or steering column modifications (e.g.
installation of anti-theft device). This could nega-
tively affect performance and safety, invalidate the
warranty, cause serious safety problems and also
result in vehicle non-compliance with type-ap-
proval requirements.
Before servicing the car, switch off the engine
and remove the key from the ignition device
to activate the steering lock. This is especially
important when the car wheels are not touching the
ground. If this is not possible (i.e. if the key must be
kept in the MAR position or the engine must be kept
running), remove the main electric power steering
system fuse.On some versions, with the CITY function ac-
tivated, the SPORT function is not available.
To activate the SPORT function, deactivate the
CITY function and vice versa, because they are rec-
iprocally incompatible.
IMPORTANT The function i s activated about 5 s econds
after the S PORT button is pressed.
IMPORTANT The s teering may become stiffer during
parking manoeuvres including a great deal of s teering.
This is normal and caus ed by the system preventing the
electric control motor overheating. No repair s are needed.
The power s teering system will s tart working normall y
again the next time the car i s u sed.

In “normal” operating mode, active shock abs orbers ad-
jus t car s uspens ions, adapting them to the ty pe of road
and to the driving stresse s, improving driving comfort in
particular on rough terrain.
In “S PORT” operating mode, the letter “S ” is lit up on the
ins trument panel dis play. This function produces a sports
driving setting featuring greater res ponsiveness during ac-
celeration and a s ports driving feeling with the steering,
a s well as the regulation and di stribution of the damping
at the s hock abs orbers guaranteeing greater vehicle pre-
cis ion and reaction, whils t maintaining a good level of
comfort. The driver will notice that the vehicle i s more
precis e when cornering and quicker in changing direction.
This function is particularly useful whenever maximum
performance i s required for a short time (e.g. when over-
taking).
IMPOR
TANT During acceleration, when the SPORT func-
tion is used, the s teering may s hudder, which i s t ypical
of a s ports setting.
IMPORTANT The function is activated about 5 seconds
after the S PORT button is pressed.
REACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM
(Active shock absorber system)
This system interacts with the Sport function (s ee “Sport
function” paragraph).
The SPORT button, fig. 72, allow s y ou to choos e between
two different driving s ettings depending on the route ty pe
and on the road s urface:

DRIVING ADVISOR
(Lane crossing warning )
(for versions/markets , where provided)
The Driving Advisor is a warnin g s ystem which no-
tifies the driver if they cross lanes, assisting the dri-
ver when distracted.
A video s ensor, fitted on the winds creen near the interior
rear view mirror, detect s the lane demarcation line s and
the pos ition of the car in relation to them.
IMPORTANT On cars with Driving Advisor, it is advisable
to contact a Lancia Dealer ship should the winds creen need
to be replaced. If the repair i s being carried out at a spe-
cialis t window replacement centre, it i s s till necessary to
go to a Lancia Dealer ship to have the TV camera cali-
brated.
System failure
In the event of a malfunction, the
system notifies the dri-
ver of the fault via a dedicated message in the reconfig-
urable multifunction di splay instrument panel and the
amber isymbol coming on.
In this case, go to a Lancia Dealer ship.
