Replacing the Battery
Note:Before reconnecting the battery, makesure the ignition remains switched off.
You must replace the battery with one ofexactly the same specification.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Note:Make sure that you correctly installthe battery terminal covers, battery coverand battery cable terminals.
CHANGING THE 12V BATTERY - PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)
The battery is in the luggage compartment.
Your vehicle has a maintenance-free battery.It does not require additional water duringservice.
If the vehicle battery has a cover, make sureyou correctly install it after cleaning orreplacing the battery.
For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry and thebattery cables tightly fastened to the batteryterminals. If any corrosion is present on thebattery or terminals, remove the cables fromthe terminals and clean with a wire brush.You can neutralize the acid with a solutionof baking soda and water.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid unintended connection orarcing.
If you disconnect or replace the battery andyour vehicle has an automatic transmission,it must relearn its adaptive strategy. Becauseof this, the transmission may shift firmly whenfirst driven. This is normal operation whilethe transmission fully updates its operationto optimum shift feel.
Removing the Battery
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off.
2.Switch all electrical equipment off, forexample lights and radio.
3.Wait a minimum of two minutes beforedisconnecting the battery.
Note:The engine management system hasa power hold function and remains poweredfor a period of time after you switch theignition off. This is to allow diagnostic andadaptive tables to be stored. Disconnectingthe battery without waiting can causedamage not covered by the vehicleWarranty.
4.Remove the battery securing clamp.
5.Disconnect and isolate the negativebattery cable terminal.
6.Disconnect and isolate the positivebattery cable terminal.
7.Remove the battery.
If you disconnect or replace the vehiclebattery, you must reset the followingfeatures:
•Window bounce-back. See What IsWindow Bounce-Back (page 131).
•Clock Settings.
•Pre-set radio stations.

RESETTING THE BATTERY SENSOR
When you install a new battery, reset thebattery sensor by doing the following:
1.Switch the ignition on, and leave theengine off.
Note:Complete Steps 2 and 3 within 10seconds.
2.Flash the high beam headlamps fivetimes, ending with the high beams off.
3.Press and release the brake pedal threetimes.
The battery warning lamp flashes three timesto confirm that the reset is successful.
RECYCLING AND DISPOSING OF THE
12V BATTERY
Make sure that you dispose of oldbatteries in an environmentallyfriendly way. Seek advice fromyour local authority about recycling oldbatteries.
CHARGING THE 12V BATTERY - PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)
Your vehicle has a high voltage to lowvoltage energy transfer feature that keepsthe 12 volt battery charged by the highvoltage battery. If the 12 volt battery level islow, the high voltage battery transfers energyto the 12 volt battery when the vehicle is off.

The battery management system determines that the 12V battery is at a low state of charge.Start the engine to charge the battery or charge the battery using an aftermarket battery charger.Always use the vehicle ground point when connecting the negative cable of the external batterycharger. See Jump Starting the Vehicle (page 404). This message clears once you restart yourvehicle and the battery state of charge has recovered. Do not switch on the ignition when abattery charger is in use to charge the battery.
Battery State of Charge Low
The battery management system determines that the battery is at a low state of charge. Turnthe ignition off as soon as possible to protect the battery. This message will clear once the vehiclehas been started and the battery state of charge has recovered. Turning off unnecessary electricalloads will allow faster battery state-of-charge recovery.
Turn Power Off To Save Battery
Displayed when the battery management system detects an extended low-voltage condition.Various vehicle features will be disabled to help preserve the battery. Turn off as many of theelectrical loads as soon as possible to improve system voltage. If the system voltage hasrecovered, the disabled features will operate again as normal.

1.Park the vehicle directly in front of a wallor screen on a level surface,approximately 25 ft (7.6 m) away.
2.Measure the height of the headlamp bulbcenter from the ground and mark an 8 ft(2.4 m) horizontal reference line on thevertical wall or screen at this height.
Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp when adjusting theother.
3.Switch on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood.
4.On the wall or screen you will observe aflat zone of high intensity light located atthe top of the right hand portion of thebeam pattern. If the top edge of the highintensity light zone is not at the horizontalreference line, the headlamp does needto be adjusted.
5.Locate the vertical adjuster on eachheadlamp. Using a Phillips #2screwdriver, turn the adjuster eitherclockwise or counterclockwise in orderto aim the headlamp. The horizontaledge of the brighter light should touchthe horizontal reference line.
6.Close the hood and switch off the lamps.
Horizontal Aim Adjustment
Horizontal aim is not required for this vehicleand is non-adjustable.

CLEANING WINDOWS AND WIPERBLADES
To clean the windshield and wiper blades:
•Clean the windshield with a non-abrasiveglass cleaner.
Note:When cleaning the interior of thewindshield, avoid getting any glass cleaneron the instrument panel or door panels. Wipeany glass cleaner off these surfacesimmediately.
•Clean the wiper blades with washer fluidor water applied with a soft sponge orcloth.
