• Never use a power washer to clean the power top itself.
• To avoid damaging your vehicle, always make sure that there is
suff icient distance between the spray head and soft mater ials l ike
rubber hoses, plastic parts and sound -deadening materials. Never
aim the spray head at the same po int for a long time. This also applies
to cleaning headlights and painted bumpers. Remember: the closer
the nozzle is to the surface of the mater ial, the greater the stress on
the material. •
Power top care
The power top requires special care.
Keeping your top looking great and mak ing certain that it lasts a long
time depend to a great extent on proper use and care. Remove bird
droppings as soon as possible, since the corrosive chemicals in them
wi ll cause the rubber impregnation in your top to swell and possibly
allow the fabric to leak.
With
normal soiling, all you need to do is clear the top with a soft
brush and clear water. Always brush in the direction of the fabric from
front to rear.
If the top is
very dirty and has spotted areas clean it with a br ush
using a convert ible top cleaner . Always brush in the direction of the
fabric from front to rear. Rinse with plenty of clear water, and allow
the top to air -dry .
Chamois are not sui tab le for drying the top .
Never use gasoline, spot remover, benzene, paint thinner or solvents
to remove spots. We recommend that you only use cleaners espe­
cially formulated for use on convertib le tops, and that you follow the
produce use directions carefully . Authorized Audi deals can provide
detailed information.

Wind deflector
Clear the wind deflector with wate r or, if it is heavily soiled, a chemi ­
ca lly neutra l cleaning solution.

Waxing
Wax protects the vehicle's paint.
-Use a man ually applied car wax occasionally to protect the
paint .
A good wax coating protects the veh icle paint to a large extent
agains t the environmental factors listed under =>
page 260,
"Washing " and even against slight scratches.
You can use a liquid car wax to protect your paint as soon as one week after your vehicle has been delivered.
Even if you regularly use a
waxing process in automatic car washes,
we recommend that you manually apply a coat of wax to give the .,_

paint extra protection, particularly if water no longer beads on the
clean pain t.
Protect plast ic body parts with ca r wax in the same way as the vehicle
body.
Dur ing warm weather de ad insec ts tend t o colle ct on t he fron t
bumper and on the forward a rea of the hood. T hey are much easier to
remove from pa in t th at is waxed often.

Polishing
Polishing restores the gl oss to the paint.
Polish your veh icle only if the paint has los t its sh ine and the g loss
cannot be b rought back with wax.
If the polish used does not contain preservative compounds, the

Trim strips
Metal trim needs special care .
For environmental reasons, Aud i fabricates the br ight tr im strips and
t rim pieces from pure chr om ium-free alum inum.
Dirt and marks on the trim strips s ho ul d be
removed with a pH­
balanced cleanin g agen t (d o no t use a chrome cleaner). Au thori ze d
Audi dealers car ry clea ning p roducts which have been tested for use
on your vehicle and are not harmful to the environment .
T o avo id corrosion on the exte rio r tr im st rips, only a pH-b alance d
so lution should be used for the windshield washer.

Plastic and vinyl
Plas tic needs special care.
Use a clean, damp clo th o r spo nge to remove d ust and l ight surface
dirt. For other so il, use a lukewarm all-purpose cleaning so lution or a
m ild sadd le soap fo r vinyl tr im. Remove water spots and traces of
soap with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Use a clean, soft cloth to rub
dry.
Grease, ta r o r o il stains can be
removed with a clean cloth or sponge
soaked with all- pu rpose cleaner o r with a solven t desig ned espec ia lly
to clean vinyl. .,.

Occasionally apply a colorless vinyl or leather preservative to retain
the material's lust er and pliability.

Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH products to remove spots and deposits from
aluminum surfaces. Chrome care products and alkaline cleaners w ill
attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Touch-up paint
Minor paint damages should be touched up immediately.
- Use either a touch-up paint stick or spray paint to cover
minor scratches and nicks.
Your authorized Audi dea ler has touch-up paint for minor scratches
and stone chips. Scratches should be touched up soon after they
occur to prevent corrosion.
If a spot starts to rust, however, a simple touch-up job will not be
enough. The affected surface must be sanded smooth and coated
with an anti-rust primer before the painted finish can be restored.
The number for the original vehicle paint can be found on the vehicle identification label~
page 340.

Windows
Clear vision to all sides .
Clean all windows regularly to remove road film and car wash
wax buildup.
- Remove snow from windows using a brush.
- Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice from windows and
mirrors .
- Remove other residue on the windows with a spray-on
glass cleaner.
- Wipe the windows dry with a clean piece of cloth or
kitchen paper towel.
The best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush. Use a non -abrasive
plastic ice scraper -better sti ll, a spray
deicer - to remove
ice from windows and mirrors.
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
t hese can interfere with the function of the windshield wiper blades
(chatter) .
Oil , grease, or silicone residue can be removed with
glass cleaner or
silicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a specially
formulated solvent. Please contact your authorized Audi dealer for
advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be cleaned on the inside at regular intervals. ..,.

Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry painted
surfaces. W ax res idue o n the chamois can impair vision t hrough the

• The windshield must not be treated with water-repellent
materials. They can increa se glare under poor vi sibility condition s
such as wetness, darkness, o r when the sun is low on the horizon.
In addition, they can cause the wind shield wipers to chatter .

w indows and mirrors . This cou ld cause the glass to crack.

any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the w ires .

a forward direction - pushing t he scraper away from yo u - never back

• Water leaking from the ins ide of the rear windows may damage
sen siti ve e lectr ica l components loc ated ei ther unde r the rea r parce l
shelf or in the rear trunk area. Always ens ure that water never leaks
t hrough the body section o f th e veh icle. Yo u can do th is by usin g
waterproof protection over the vehicle 's electrical components (e.g.,
w hen installing w indow t int ing).

Weatherstrips

- Apply a suitable rubb er condit ioner to t he weatherst rips
from ti me to ti me.
T o be able se al prope rly, the weathe rst rips a round the hood, doors,
rear lid, etc. must remain pliable . Spray the weatherstr ips w ith sili­
c one or coa t them wi th ta lcum powder o r gly cerin to reta in the flex i­
bility of the rubber and to protect them against freezing in the
w inte r.

Keep silicone sprays off the w indshield to avo id wiper smear in rain. •
Cast (light} alloy wheels
Cast (light) alloy wheels require special care .
- Wash the whe els with a sp ong e or h ose b rush every o th er
w ee k.
- For deep cleaning afterwa rds, use only a ded icate d
acid­
free cast alloy wheel c leaner.
- Rub a coat of
liquid wax onto t he rims every three mo nth .
Be sure to reach and treat all parts o f the rim.
To preserve the decorative appearance of the cast alloy wheels, some
special care is necessary. In addi tion t o ro ad dirt and sal t, br ake dust
is a lso corrosive. If left on for too long, brake dust can cause pitting . ..,_

cleaner on t he rims longer than specified on t he label. If not rins ed
off promptly, the acid containe d in some cleaners can attack t he
t hreads on the wheel bo lts .
N ever use abrasiv e or metal polish ing cleaning agents .

ti ve coatin g has bee n ch ipp ed, e.g . by kick ed up road dirt, to uch it up
as soon as possible.

Body cavity sealing
The bod y cavi ty sealing does not ne ed to be checked.
All body cav ities which cou ld be affected by corrosion have been thor­
oughly pro tected at the factory .
T hi s sealing does not require any inspection or add itiona l treatment .
If any wax shou ld see p ou t of the cavity w hen the ambi ent te mper a­
tu re is high, it can be removed with a plastic scraper and a suitable
s o lve nt.

Solvents can be dangerous.
• Benzine is flammable and toxic . If you use benzine fo r
removing the wax, keep sparks, flame and lighted cigarettes
away . Never dump benzine on the ground , into open streams or
down sewage drains.

Chassis

Any damage to t he un dercoat ing caused by road haza rds s ho ul d be
repa ired promptly .

Too much undercoating in the wrong places can cause a fire.
• Do not apply additional undercoating or rustproofing on or
near the exhaust manifold, exhau st pipes, catalytic converter or
heat shields. While driv ing, the substance used for undercoating
could overheat and cause a fire.

E x haust tail pipes
Road s alt and o ther corrosive m ater ials w ill damage the ma terial i n
the exha ust ta il pipes if they are not cleaned reg ularly. Do not clean
t he t ail pipe s with w heel cleaner, pai nt polish , chr ome polish o r oth er
abras ive cleaners . Clean the ta il pipes w ith car care produc ts that are
s u itable fo r st ainless stee l.

been tested and approved for your vehicle.•
Care of interior
MMI display
- Clean the MMI display with a soft clean cloth and an LCD
cleaner.
The MMI display can be cleaned with a professionally available "LCD
cleaner". The cloth shou ld be slightly dampened with the cleaning
fluid to clean the d isplay.

T o avoid scratch ing the MMI display, you should never clean it dry.•
MMI control console
-First clean the MMI control console with a brush to
remove dust from the housing.
- Then wipe the MMI control console with a clean, soft,
slightly damp cloth.
The MM I control console should be cleaned with a brush fi rst so that
no dirt is trapped between the buttons and the housing. We recom­
mend g iv ing the MMI control console a final wipe with a cloth moist­
ened with water and dish washing detergent.

To prevent damage, make sure that no fluid ever gets into the MMI
control console. •
Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH products to remove spots and deposits from
alumi num surfaces. Chrome care products and alkaline cleaners will
attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time .

Fabrics and fabric coverings
Fabrics and fabric coverings (e .g . seats, door tr im panels, etc.) should
be cleaned at regular intervals with a vacuum cleaner . This removes
surface dirt particles wh ich could become embedded in the fabric
through use. Steam cleaners should not be used, because the steam
tends to push the d irt deeper into the fabric and lock it there.
Normal cleaning
Generally, we recommend using a soft sponge or a lint-free
microfiber cloth to the clean fabric. Brushes should only be used for
carpets and floor mats, since other fabric surfaces could be harmed
by brushes.
Normal surface stains can be cleaned using a commercially available
foam cleaner . Spread the foam on the surface of the fabric with a soft
sponge and work it in gently. Do not saturate the fabric. Then pat the
foam dry using absorbent, dry cloths (e .g. m icrofiber cloth) and
vacuum it after it has dr ied completely.
Cleaning stains
Stains caused by beverages (e.g. coffee, fru it juice, etc.) can be
treated with a mild detergent solut ion. Apply the detergent solution
with a sponge. In the case of stubborn stains, a detergent paste can
be applied d irectly to the stain and worked into the fabric. After­
wards, use copious amounts of clean water to remove the remaining _..,

detergent . Apply the water with a damp cloth or sponge and pat the
fabric dry with an absorbent, dry cloth.
Stains from chocolate or makeup should have detergent paste
rubbed into them. Afterwards, remove the soap with water (damp
sponge).
Alcohol can be used to treat stains from grease, oil, lipstick or a ball­
point pen . Melted grease or dye must be patted off using absorbent
material. It may be necessary to retreat the areas with detergent
paste and water.
I n the case of general soiling of the upholstery and cover mater ial, we
recommend hiring a specialist that has the equipment to clean the
seat covers and other fabric surfaces by shampooing and spray
extraction.

Open Velcro fasteners on your clothing can damage the seat cover.
Please make sure that Velcro fasteners are closed. •
Plastic parts and instrument panel
Always use a clean cloth moistened in clear water to clean these
areas. For persistent dirt use an Aud i approved
solvent-free plastic
cleaner/protectant.

Solvents can change the properties of some plastics and make it
harder for the airbag to deploy .

modules with cleaning products that contain solvents.
• Products containing solvents will make the surface of this part

Natural leather
Audi makes great efforts to maintain the properties,
natural look and feel of interior leather.
General
We offe r many different types of leathe r on our veh icles. Most are
different types of nappa leather, which has a smooth surface and
comes in various colors.
Th e intensity of the colo r determines the visual cha racteristics and
appearance. If the surface of the leather has a typica l natural look,
then the leather is a nap pa leather that has been left in a relatively
natural condition. This leather offers particularly good comfort and
breathes well. Fine veins, closed grains, insect bites, skin folds, and
subtle variations in color remain visible. These characteristics demon­
strate that the mater ial is natu ral.
Natural nappa leather is not covered by a color finish. It is therefore
more sensitive to soiling and wear, which is something you need to ..,_

consider if children, animals or other factors might prove to be partic­
ularly hard on the leather.
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored finish layer
are more durable. This has a positive effect on the leather's resistance
to wear and soiling in daily use . On the other hand, the typical charac­
teristics of natural leather are barely or not apparent . However, this
does not mean that the leather itself is of inf erior quality.
Care and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leather that Audi uses
and the ir un iqu e properties (such as sensitivity to oils, grease, so iling,
etc.), you will need to be somewhat careful with these leathers, and
a certain type of care is required. For example, dark clothing mate­
ria ls can disco lor leather seats (especially if such clothing is damp and
was not dyed correctly). Dust and dirt particles in pores, folds, and
seams can have an abrasive effect and can damage the leathe r
surface as well as weaken seams .
Th e leather should be cleaned regu larly as needed. After having been
used for a relatively long time, your leather seats will acquire a rich
aged finish. This is a characteristic of natural leather and a sign of
true quality.
In order to ma intain the value of this natural product over the life of
your vehicle, you should fo llow the recommendations below:

• To keep your leather from bleaching out, do not allow it to be
exposed to bright sunlight for long periods of time . If you have to
leave the vehicle parked outside for long periods, cover the leather to
protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
• Sharp objects on clothing, such as zippers, rivets or sharp pieces
on belts can leave pe rmanent scratches or scrape marks on the
surface of the leather.
W Tips
• After each time you clean the leathe r and at regular intervals, use
a leather preservative cream that contains UV-blockers and that
wor ks into the leather. This cream will nourish and moisturize the
leather, helping it to breathe and s tay supple . It also helps to build up
a protect ive coating on the surface.
• Clean the leather every 2 -3 months, and clean any areas that get
soiled.
• Remove fresh marks made by ballpoint pens, ink, lipstick , shoe
polish, etc. as soon as poss ible.
• Preserve the color of the leather as needed by using a special
colored leather care cream to touch up areas of uneven color .•

Natural leather requires special care and attention.
Normal cleaning
-Clean soiled areas with a slightly moistened cotton or
woolen cloth.
More stubborn dirt
- More stubborn dirt can be removed using a cloth satu­
rated with a mild soap solution (2 tablespoons mild liquid
soap).
- Never allow the soap solution to satu rate the leather, and
make certain that no water soaks into the seams .
- Wipe off the soap solution with a soft, dry cloth. .,_
