You can centrally lock a nd u nlock your ve hicle and start the eng ine
with the master key with remote contro l.
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for cons tant use. It should o nly be
used in an emergency . Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on
your key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key , contact your a uthori zed Audi dea le r immedi ately to
have the
lost key disabled . Be sure to bring all your keys w ith you .
Data in the master key
During driving, service and maintenance-relevant data is cont inu­
o usly s tore d on yo ur maste r key. Your Aud i service adviser can re ad
out this data and tell you about the work your veh icle needs . This

If two peop le use one veh icle, it is recommended that eac h person
a lw ays uses "t heir own " mas ter key. When t he ig nitio n is tu rned off
or when the vehicle is locked, personal conven ience settings for the
following systems are sto red and assigned to the remo te maste r key .

T he sto red sett ings a re a utomatica lly recalled w hen you unlock the
vehicle, when you open the doors o r when you tu rn o n the ignition .
& WARNING
• Do not leave your vehicle unattended w ith the key in the igni­
tion lock. Entry by unauthorized per sons could endanger you or
result in theft or damage the vehicle. Alway s lock all doors and
take the key.
• Do not leave children unattended in the veh icle, especially with
access to vehicle key s. Unguarded acce ss to the ke ys pro vide s chil­
dren the opportun ity to start the engine and /or activate vehicle
s y stem s such as the power windows etc . Unsupervi sed operation
of any vehicle system by children can result in serious injury.
• Do not remove the ke y from the ignition lock until the vehicle
ha s come to a complete stop. Otherwise the ste ering column lock
could suddenly engage -causing the ri sk of an accident. .,_

Clear vision
Memory for exterior mirrors*
On vehicles with memory for the drive r's seat, the curren t sett ing for
t he exter io r mir rors is automatically stored a long w it h t he seat posi­
tion ~

Tilt funct ion for the passenger's mirror* (only with
memory for exterior mirrors)
W hen the reverse gear is engaged , th e mirror su rface t ilts downwa rd
slightly if the setting is for the passenger 's mirror (knob in position
@ ~ page 73, fig . 78) . T hi s allows you to see the curb dur ing pa ralle l
par king .
T he mir ror r etur ns to it s in iti al position as soon as reverse gear is
disengaged and ve hicle speed is above about 9 mph (15 km/h). The
m irro r also retu rn s t o its in itia l pos it ion i f th e swi tch is moved to the
dr iver's outside mirror © or the ignition is sw itched off.
If t he position of t he mir ro r su rface is changed on a ti lted mirror, this
new position will be automatically assig ned to the remote key when
the vehicle is taken out of reverse gear.

Curved mirror su rfaces (convex or spherica l*) increase your fie ld of
view. Remembe r th at veh icles o r o the r object s will appear sm alle r
and fart her away than when seen in a flat m irro r. If you use this
m irror to est ima te dis tanc es o f following vehicles when cha nging
lanes, you cou ld estimate incorrect ly and cause an accident .

Automatic dimming for the outside
mirrors
Th e o utside mirrors dim at the same time as the inside m irror. Whe n
the ignition is switched o n, the mirrors a utomatically dim depending
on the a mou nt of light s triki ng t he m irro rs (su ch as he adlights
shining into the veh icle from the rear) .
W hen the inter io r li ght ing is switche d on and when reverse gear is
engaged, the m irro rs a re switched back to their original brig htn ess
(not dimmed) .
& WARNING
Broken gla ss of automatic dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid leakage. Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes, and respira­
tory sy stem.
• Repeated or prolonged exposure to electrolyte can cause irrita­
tion to the re spiratory system, especially among people with
asthma or other respiratory conditions . Get fresh air immediately
by leaving the vehicle or , if that is not po ssible , open window s and
doors all the way.
• If electrolyte gets into the eye s, flush them thoroughly with
large amounts of clean water fo r at least 15 minutes; medical
attention i s recommended .
• If electrolyte contacts skin , flush affected area with clean
water for at lea st 15 minute s and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recommended. Thoroughly
wash affected clothing and shoes before reu se.
• If swallowed and person is conscious, r inse mouth with water
for at least 15 minutes . Do not induce vomiting unles s instru cted
to do so by medical professional. Get medical attent ion immedi-
ately .

Seats and storage Folding down the front seat backs
- Lift the latch=> page 79, fig. 8 2.
- Tilt the seat bac k forward.
Moving the front seats forward
- Press a nd ho ld the switch @ until th e seat has r eached t he
desir ed p osition .
Moving front seats back
-Press and ho ld t he switc h@ until th e seat has reached t he
des ired position. The seat stops a utomatically when it has
reached its starting position again .
To make it easier to enter and leave the rear seat , t h e seatbacks of the
front sea ts ca n be folded forward and the he ad restraints are a uto ­
matically lowered . At the same time, the front seats can be moved
forward and back.
W hen the front seats a re moved forward, their or ig inal position is
sto red . When it is moved back, the seat automat ically stops in this
posit io n. T o move the seat even further b ack, you have to release the
switch @ and reactivate it.
T he head rest raints from the front sea ts, depending on t he se at
height that has been set, a re a utomatically retracted when t he seat­
backs are folded down. They return to their or iginal position again
when the sea tbacks for the fron t seats a re ra ised .
(I) Tips
With the driver 's o r passenger's door closed, the corresponding
switch to move the seat is inoperative. •

Memory for driver's seat
The seat adjustment settings for t wo drivers can be
stored using the memory buttons in the driv er's door .

Seat memory
In additio n to the setting for the driver's seat, the exterior rear v iew
m irror setting ca n be stored and reca lled throug h seat memory if the
veh icle is properly equipped.
Storing and recalling settings
With the he lp of the memory b uttons 1 a nd 2 ~ fig. 83 the settings
for two different drivers can be stored and recalled~
page 81.
The cur rent settings are also automatically stored on the remote
c o ntrol key being used when the vehicle is locke d. Whe n the vehicle is
unlocked, the settings stored on the remote contro l key being used
are autom atic ally re calle d.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON/OFF ] switc h is depressed , th e seat memo ry is inoperative.
The word
OFF in the [ ON/OFF] sw itch illuminates .
All the stored setti ngs are retained . We recommend using the
I O N/OFF ] switch and deact ivating the seat memory if the vehicle is .,

only going to be used temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored. •

Storing and recalling settings
Before you can store or recall your settings, the [ ON/OFF]
switch on the seat memory must be engaged (not raised).
Storing settings
- Adjust the driver's seat.
- Adjust the two exterior mirrors .
- Press the
I SETI button and hold it down. In addition, press
one of the memory buttons for at least one second .
- Release the buttons. The settings are now stored under
the corr esponding memory button .
Recalling settings
- If the driver's door is open, tap the corresponding memory
button briefly .
- If the driver's door is closed , press the appropriate
memory button unt il the stored position is reached .
Successful storage is confirmed audibly and by the light in the [SET)
button illuminat ing=> page 80, fig . 83 .
When the vehicle is
loc ked , the current settings are stored and
ass igned to the remote contro l key. B ut the setti ngs sto red on
memory buttons 1 to 2 are not deleted. They can be reca lled at any
time. When the vehicle is
unlo ck ed , the settings stored on the
remote control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key , you should save your individua l seat position on one of the

memory buttons. You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by press ing the cor responding memory button. When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re-assigned to
the remote control key and stored.

& WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment and improper seating
position can cause serious personal injury .
• Adjust the steer ing wheel column only when the vehicle is not
moving to prevent loss of vehicle control.
• Adjust the dri ver's seat or steering wheel so that there is a
minimum of 10 inches (25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel=>
page 178, fig. 178 . If you cannot maintain this
minimum distance , the airbag system cannot protect you prop­
erly .
• If physical limitations prevent you from sitting 10 inches (25
cm) or more from the steering wheel, check with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available.
• If the steering wheel is al igned with your face, the supple­
mental driver 's airbag cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the steering wheel is aligned with
your chest.
• Always hold the steering wheel with your hands at the 9 o 'clock
and 3 o'clock positions to reduce the risk of personal injury if the
driver's airbag deploys .
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock po sition or with
your hands inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steer ing wheel
hub. Holding the stee ring wheel the wrong way can cause serious
injur ies to the hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys. •

Child restraints on the front seat - some
important things to know

Even though your veh icle is eq uipped with an Advanced Airbag
System, make certain that all ch ildren, especially those 12 years and
younger, a lways r ide in the back seat properly rest rained for the ir age
and size . The airbag on the passenger side makes the front seat a
poten tially dangerous place fo r a child to r ide. The front seat is not
the safest place for a child in a forward-facing c hild safety seat. It can
be a ve ry dange rous place fo r an infant or a child in a rearward-fac ing
seat.
T he Advanced Airbag System in your vehicle has been cert ified to
comply with the Req uirements of United States Federa l Moto r
Vehicle Safety Standard 208 as applicable at the time your vehicle
was ma nufactu red .
The Standard requires the front airbag on the passenger side to be tu rned off ("supp ressed") if a c hild up to abo ut one year o f age
restra ined in one of the rear -facing or forward -fac ing infant
restrain ts listed in Federa l Moto r Vehicle Safety Sta ndard 208 with
w hich the Advanced Airbag System in your veh icle was certified has
been installed on the front passenger seat. For a listing of the chi ld
restra ints that were used to cert ify complia nce w ith the US Safety
Standard
=> page 224.
T he PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ligh t in t he inst rumen t panel tells you
when the front Advanced Airbag on the passenger s ide has been
tu rn ed off by the electronic con tro l u nit.
Eac h time you turn on the ign ition, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light will come on for a few seconds and:
• will stay on if th e fron t passenger seat is no t occupied, •
will stay on if there is a small ch ild or child restra int on the front
p assenge r seat,
• will go off if the front passenger seat is occup ied by an adult as
reg iste red by the weight-sens ing mat =:>
page 211, "Monitori ng the
Adva nced Airbag System" .
Th e
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on when the control unit
detects a tota l we ight on the front passenger seat t hat req uires the
front airbag to be t urned off.
If the tota l we ight on the front passenger sea t is more than th at of a
typical 1 year-old child but less than the weight of a small adu lt, the
front airbag on t he p assenger s ide c an dep loy (the
PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF
li g ht does not come on) . If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light does not come on, the front airbag on the passenger side has
not been tu rned off by the e lectron ic control u nit and can deploy if
the contro l unit senses an impact that meets the conditions stored in
its memory.
For e xample , the a irbag may deploy if:
• a small chi ld that is heavier than a typical 1 year -old child is on the
front passenge r seat (regardless of whether the child is in one of the
child safety seats listed =>
page 224), or
• a chi ld who has outgrown ch ild restra ints is on the front passenger
seat.
If the front passenger a irbag is turned off, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
light comes on in the instrument cluster an d stays o n.
Th e front airbag on the passenger side may

If the front passenger airbag deploys, the Federal Standard requ ires
th e airb ag to meet the "low risk" deployment criteria to red uce the
r is k of injury through interaction with the airbag. "Low risk" deploy­

airbag on the passenge r side may deploy (the

the airbag to meet the "low risk" deployment criter ia to help reduce

Alway s remember: Even though your ve hicle is eq uipped with
Adva nced A irbags, the safest place for children is properly restra ined
on the back seat. Please be sure to read the important information in

pa ssenger seat will be seriou sly injured and can be killed if the

• Although the Advanced Airbag System in your vehicle is
designed to turn off the front airbag when a rearward-facing child
restraint has been installed on the front p asseng er seat , nobody
can absolutely gua rantee th at deployment i s imposs ible in all
con ceivabl e situation s that may happen during the u seful life of
your vehicle . .,_
