PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
If a normal code is displayed during the DTC check but the problem still o\
ccurs, check the circuits for each
problem symptom in the order given in the table below and proceed to the releva\
nt troubleshooting page.
NOTICE:
When replacing Skid Control ECU, sensor or etc., turn the ignition switc\
h to OFF.

1. Check the DTC reconfirming that the normal code is output.
2. IG power source circuit
3. Speed sensor circuit
4. Check the brake actuator with a hand±held tester. If there is malfunction, check the hydraulic circuit for
leakage.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
HINT:
Using SST 09843±18040, connect the terminal Tc and CG of the DLC3.
If malfunction is not found when inspecting parts, inspect the ECU and grou\
nd points for poor contact.
If a malfunction code is displayed during the DTC check, check the circuit\
listed for that code. For de-
tails of each code, refer to the ºSee pageº for respective ºDTC No.º\
in the DTC chart.
When 2 or more DTCs are detected, perform circuit inspection one by one unti\
l the problem is identi-
fied.

PRE±CHECK
1. DIAGNOSI S SYSTEM
(a ) Release the parking brake leve r.
(b ) Check the warning lights.
Whe n the ignition switch is turned ON, check that the ABS
warnin g light and brake warning light come on for 3 sec.
HIN T:
Whe n the parking brake is applied or the level of the brake
flui d is lo w, the brake warning light comes on.
If the indicator check result is not normal, proceed to trou-
bleshootin g for the ABS warning light circuit ( See page
05±73 7 or 05±741 ) or brake warning light circuit ( See
pag e 05±744 ).
(c ) Without using hand±held tester:
Check the DTC.
(1 ) Usin g S S T, c onne ct te rmi na l T c a n d C G o f the
DLC3.
SS T 09843±18040
(2 ) Tur n the ignition switch ON.
(3 ) Rea d the DTC from the ABS warning light on the
combinatio n mete r.
HIN T:
If no code appears, inspect the diagnostic circuit or ABS
warning light circuit ( See page 05±737 or 05±744 ).
As an example, the blinking patterns for normal code and
code s 1 1 and 21 are shown on the left.
(4 ) Codes are explained in the code table on page
05±704.
If 2 or more DTCs are detected at the same time, the lowest
numbered DTC is displayed 1st. (5) After completing the check, remove the SST fromthe DLC3.
SST 09843±18040
(d) With using hand±held tester: Check the DTC.
(1) Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tes-ter screen.
HINT:
Please refer to the hand±held tester operator's manual for fur-
ther details.
(e) Without using hand±held tester: Clear the DTCs.
(1) Using SST, connect the terminal Tc and CG of theDLC3.
SST 09843±18040
(2) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(3) Clear the DTCs stored in ECU by depressing the
brake pedal 8 or more times within 5 sec.
(4) Check that the ABS warning light indicates the nor-
mal code blinking pattern.
(5) Remove the SST from the DLC3.
SST 09843±18040
HINT:
Disconnecting the battery cable during repairs will not erase the
DTCs in the ECU.
(f) With using hand±held tester:
Clear the DTCs.
(1) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(2) Operate the hand±held tester to erase the codes.
HINT:
Please refer to the hand±held tester operator's manual for fur-
ther details.
2. DATA LIST
HINT:
According to the DATA LIST displayed on the Hand±held tester, you can read the value and status of the
switch, sensor, actuator and so on without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as a first step of trouble-
shooting is one of the methods to shorten the labor time.
(a) Connect the Hand±held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) From the display on the tester, read the ºDATA LISTº.
