Di
sconnect the (-) plug of the battery.
Di sconnect the cooling fan connector (7).
Dismount the three-attachement screws (6) of the cooling fan on the radiator, recovering the
attachement buffers (2), cross-pieces (3) and the washers (4) and (5).
Remove the cooling fan assembly (1).
REMOUNTING
Check the condition of the fan propeller, cooling fan electric motor, bushings and washers.
Tighten the attachement screw (6) of the assembly.
Connect the cooling fan connector (7).
Connect the battery pl ug (-). In case the vehicle is equipped with progammable radio-
cassettes, electronic clock, etc, these are t o be reset before re turning t he vehicle to the
client.
Check the cooling fan opera tion: start the ve hicle e ngine and disconnect t he water tem-
perature sensor. The cooling fan must start. Reconnect the water tempera ture sensor, then
by means of the CLIP tester, erase the memori zed failure related to the water t empera ture
sensor.

DISMOUNTING
The car is set on a two-column lifting stand.
The ba ttery is disconnected.
Th e co oling circuit is emptied at the filling stopper placed at the lower part of the radiator.
The fo llowing are taken apart.
- the distribution belt (see Chapter “ Distribution belt”) ;
- the ex tending pulley / runner (1);
- the fixing screws of the water-pump.
The water-pump is taken out at the upper end of the engine compartment.

CLEANING
It is very important t hat the fitting surfaces of the aluminum parts should not be scratched.
Use Decapjoint to dissolve the particles of fitting that are left stuck to them.
The pa ste i s applied onto the c leaning surface and then you wait for approx. 10 minutes,
then it is removed with a wooden spatula.
Du ring this operation you should used protection gloves.
R
EMO UNTING
The watert ightness of the water-pump is done with LOCTITE 518; the H cord has the
thickness of 0,6-1 mm and must be applied according with the chart below. The distri bution belt is re-mounted (see Chapter “ Distribution belt ”).
The cooling circuit is filled and dra ined (see Chapter “ Filling and Draining”).

DISMOUNTING - REMOUNTING EXHAUST
The catalytic converter, when in operation, reaches high tempera-
tures, and consequently m ust not co me in touch with flammable materials, which
would lead to self-combustion. The catalytic converter will be kept out of mechanic shocks.
D
IS M O UNT ING
In order to take apart t he noise-damper system 1, the following opera tions a re to be
performed: The screw-nuts 2 of the fixing collar, between holder 3 and noise-damper 1, are
loosened; The two elastic fixing stands of the damper are taken apart , at the back on the car
bodywork; The noise-da mper system is pulled and taken out.
In order to take apart the assembled holder 4, the following operations are to be performed:
Collar 4 is taken off and the assembled holder is disconnected from the catalytic
converter;
The elastic stands of the assembled holder are taken off;
The scre w-nuts of the fixing collar 2 are loosened and t he a ssembled holder is
taken out by gently rot ating, and pulling it towards the front.
In order to take apart the catalytic convert er system 6, the following opera tions are to
be performed:
The engine shield is taken apart ;
The two screw-nuts 7 for the fixation of the engine shield on the two stud-bolts on
the exhaust gallery flange;
The fixing screws of converter stand 5 are taken off;
The oxygen probe is taken apart;
Collar 4 is taken apart, and t he c atalytic converter assembled on the assembled
holder is disconnected; The catalytic convert er is taken out.
R
EMONTARE
The mounting opera tions are performed in the re verse order.
Make sure there perfect watertightness between the elements of the exhaust system,
by using the Wurth watert ightening paste, along the (i nner part of the) joining stretch,
between the gas expansion chamber and the catalytic convert er ( 0.014 kg), and between
the noise-da mper a nd the expansion chamber ( 0.013 kg);
The fittings of the oxygen probe will be replaced for each taking-apart operation;
The tightening couple between the damper and the holder: 3.5 daNm +/-0.5.

IMPORTANT
Duri ng the interventions affecting t he
petrol tank and the fuel supply circuit one
must not smoke or bring incandescent
parts near the work-place.
The emptyi ng of the tank does not require
taki ng apart the tank. Ac ces s is allowed
through the inside of the car (i.e. the boot). To take apart:-the carpet of the boot;
-t he lid of the visiting mouth (by taking
off th e four screws);
-the c lick-collar 1 is ta ken out by means
of the MOT 1202 device;
-a t ube is adapted to the A outlet, which
should be long enough to be introduced into a
ve ssel outside the car. The
H relay of the petrol-pump is taken out of
the fuse box located in the engine compartment,
and term inals 3 and 5 of the re lay connector are
shunted, thus ensuring the operation of the petrol
pump ( 12 V).
Th e operation of the pump will be stopped
when an intermittent leakage of the petrol is no-
ticed. The shun t is taken off.
The relay is mounted.
