Install striking rod,lever andinterlock.
• Tape edges ofstriking rodtoavoid damaging oilseal lip
during installation.
• When taped edges ofstriking rodare past theoilseal,
remove tape.
2. Install reverse checksleeve assembly.
3. Install check balls,reverse checkspring andcheck plug.
4. Check reverse checkturning torque(Atstriking rod).
Reverse checkturning torque(Atstriking rod):
Refer toSOS, MT-61.
• Ifnot within specification, selectanother checkplughaving
a different lengthandreinstall it.
Reverse checkplug:
Refer toSOS, MT-61.
5. Install selected reversecheckplug.
• Apply locking sealanttothread ofplug before installing it.
6. Install check ballplug, shiftcheck balland shift check
spring.
7. Install oilpocket.

2nd shift fork.
7. Remove gearcomponents fromclutch housing.
a. Remove inputshaftfrontbearing retainer securing bolts.
b. Remove inputshaftwithbearing retainer, mainshaft assem-
bly and reverse idlergear.
• Always withdraw mainshaft straightout.Failure todo so
can damage resinoilchannel onclutch housing side.
• Do not draw outreverse idlershaft fromclutch housing
because thesefittings willbeloose.
When removing inputshaft, becareful nottoscratch oilseal
lip with shaft spline.
c. Remove finaldrive assembly.
8. Remove oilpocket, shiftcheck ball,shiftcheck spring and
check ballplug.

Drive retaining pinout ofstriking lever,thenremove strik-
ing rod, striking leverandstriking interlock.
• Select aposition whereretaining pindoes notinterfere with
clutch housing whenremoving retainingpin.

ing rod. Ifnecessary, tapeedges ofstriking rod.
10. Remove reversecheckplug,thendetach reverse check
spring andcheck balls.
• Ifthe smaller balldoes notcome out,remove ittogether

carried outunder unladen condition* withtires onground.

Fuel, radiator coolantandengine oilfull. Spare tire,jack,
hand tools andmats indesignated positions.
• Use flare nutwrench whenremoving orinstalling brake
tubes.
• After installing removedsuspension parts,check wheel
alignment.
• Donot jack upatthe trailing armandlateral link.
• Always torquebrakelineswhen installing.

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

• Check tiresforwear andforimproper inflation.
• Check rearwheel bearings forexcessive play.
• Check wheelrunout.
Wheel runout: RefertoSOS inFA section.
• Check thatrear shock absorber worksproperly.
• Check rearaxleandrear suspension partsforexcessive

CAMBER
Camber ispreset atfactory andcannot beadjusted.
Camber: Refer toSOS (RA-12).
• Ifthe camber isnot within specification, inspectandreplace
any damaged orworn rearsuspension parts.
TOE-IN
Toe-in ispreset atfactory andcannot beadjusted.
Measure toe-inusingfollowing procedure. Ifout of
specification, inspectandreplace anydamaged orworn rear
suspension parts.
WARNING:
• Perform following procedure alwaysonaflat surface.
• Make surethatnoperson isin front ofthe vehicle before
pushing it.
1. Bounce rearofvehicle upand down tostabilize theposture.
2. Push thevehicle straight aheadabout5m (16
ft).
3. Putamark onbase lineofthe tread (rearside) ofboth tires at
the same height ofhub center. Thismark isameasuring point.
4. Measure distance"A"(rear side).
5. Push thevehicle slowlyaheadtorotate thewheels 180
degrees (1/2turn).
If the wheels haverotated morethan180degrees (1/2turn), try
the above procedure againfromthebeginning. Neverpush
vehicle backward.
6. Measure distance"B"(front side).

1. Remove brakecaliper assembly.
2. Remove wheelbearing locknut.
3. Remove brakerotor(models withdiscbrake) orbrake drum
(models withdrum brakes).
4. Remove wheelhubbearing fromspindle.
Brake hosedoes notneed tobe disconnected frombrake cali-
per.
Suspend caliperassembly withwire soas not tostretch brake
hose.
Be careful nottodepress brakepedal, orpiston willpop out.
Make surebrake hoseisnot twisted.
INSTALLATION
• Install wheel hubbearing.
• Tighten wheelbearing locknut.
Before tightening, applyoiltothreaded portionofrear spin-
dle and both sides ofplain washer.
~: 186-255 N'm (19-26 kg-m, 137-188 ft-Ib)
• Check thatwheel bearings operatesmoothly.
• Check wheelhubbearing axialendplay.
Axial endplay:
0.05 mm(0.0020 in)orless
