The earth is divided into 15 magnetic zones. The compass is initially se\
t for the zone to which the car
was delivered, and should always be adjusted if the car is driven to a n\
ew magnetic zone. To do so:
- Switch the ignition to position II.
- Press the button on the rear side of the mirror with straightened pape\
rclip or similar object for
approximately 3 seconds until ZONE is displayed. The number of the curre\
nt magnetic zone will also be
displayed.
- Press the button repeatedly until the number for the desired zone (1-\
15) is displayed.
After several seconds, the compass heading will again be displayed, and \
the change of magnetic zones is
complete.
Calibrating the compass
- Stop the car in a large, open area, away from traffic.
- Turn off as many electrical devices in the car as possible to avoid in\
terference with the compass (e.g.
audio system, etc).
- Using a pen or similar object, hold the button (1) depressed for at \
least 6 seconds. "CAL" will be
displayed.
- Drive slowly in a circle at a maximum speed of 5 m.p.h. (8 km/h) unt\
il CAL is no longer displayed.
NOTE: This step can also be done by driving normally until CAL is no longer d\
isplayed. Calibration is
complete.

Power sideview mirrors
The mirror control switches are located on the driver's door armrest.
Driver's side: Press the L button (a light in the switch will light up) to activate \
the adjustment control
and then use this control to adjust the driver's door mirror.
Passenger's door: Press the R button (a light in the switch will light up) and then use\
the adjustment
control to adjust the passenger's door mirror.
After you have adjusted the mirror(s), press the L or R switch again (\
the light will go out) to deactivate
the adjustment control.
WARNING!
The mirrors should always be adjusted prior to driving. Objects seen in \
the passenger's side wide-
angle sideview mirror are closer than they appear to be.
Mirror memory function (with the central locking system)-option
If you lock the vehicle and later unlock it with the same remote control and open the driver's door, the
sideview mirrors (and the driver's seat) will automatically move to th\
e position they were in when you
left the vehicle. This feature will work in the same way with all of the\
remote control transmitters (up to
3) that you use with your vehicle. This feature will not function if yo\
u lock your vehicle with the key.
Water repellent glass
The side door windows can be treated with a water repellent coating. The\
symbol to the left indicates

these windows have this coating. The optional laminated side windows alw\
ays have this coating.
The coating improves vision by causing the water to run off quickly.
See
page 175 for information on cleaning this type of glass.
CAUTION!
- Use the heating function to remove ice, snow, or mist from the mirrors\
.
- Use only suitable plastic scrapers to remove ice or snow from the wind\
ows. Using a metal ice
scraper could damage the water repellent coating.

Power moonroof (option)
Power moonroof
To operate the moonroof, turn the ignition key to position I or II, or s\
tart the engine. The moonroof can
be operated in two ways:
A. Tilt position
B. Sliding moonroof
A. Tilt position
Open: With the moonroof closed, push up the rear edge of the switch (positio\
n 5 in the illustration
below).
Close: Pull down and hold the rear edge of the switch (position 6 in the illu\
stration below) until the
moonroof has closed completely.

B. Sliding moonroof
Manual open: Pull the switch rearward to position 3 and hold it until the moonroof h\
as opened to the
position of your choice.
Auto open: Pull the switch as far back as possible (position 4) and release it t\
o automatically slide open
the moonroof to the "comfort"
1 position. Pull the switch rearward again to open the moonroof
completely.
Manual close: Push the switch to position 2 and hold it until the moonroof has closed \
completely or to
the position of your choice.
Auto close: Push the switch forward as far as possible (position 1) and release i\
t to automatically close
the moonroof.
1. A position where the moonroof is not quite fully open, which helps al\
leviate "rumbling" wind noise.
WARNING!
l Remove ice and snow before opening the
moonroof.
l Do not operate the moonroof if it is frozen closed.
l Never place heavy objects on the moonroof.

WARNING!
l Never open/close the moonroof it is obstructed in any way when in operat\
ion.
l Never allow a child to operate the moonroof.
l Never extend any object or body part through the open moonroof, even if \
the vehicle's ignition is
completely switched off.
l Never leave a child alone in a vehicle.

Power moonroof (option)
If the moonroof is obstructed during auto-close operation, it will autom\
atically reverse direction and
return to its starting position. If the moonroof is repeatedly obstructe\
d during auto-close operation, an
overload circuit breaker will temporarily halt moonroof function. The mo\
onroof will return to normal
function after a brief cool-down period.
Sun visor
The optional moonroof also features a sliding sun visor. The visor slide\
s open automatically when the
moonroof is opened. The visor must be closed manually.
WARNING!
The moonroof must never be obstructed in any way when in
operation.

Condensation on the inside of the windows
Keeping the insides of the windows clean will help reduce the amount of \
condensation that forms on the
windows. Use a commercial window cleaning agent to clean the windows.
Ice and snow
Always keep the air intake grille at the base of the windshield free of \
snow.
Cabin air filter
Replace the cabin air filter with a new one at the recommended intervals\
. Please refer to your Warranty and
Service Records Information booklet, or consult your Volvo retailer for \
these intervals. The filter should be
replaced more often when driving under dirty and dusty conditions. The f\
ilter cannot be cleaned and therefore
should always be replaced with a new one.
Sensors
The sunlight sensor on the dashboard and passenger compartment temperatu\
re sensor in the ECC control panel
should not be covered in any way as this could cause incorrect informati\
on to be sent to the ECC system.
Parking the vehicle in warm weather
If your vehicle has been parked in the sun in warm weather, opening the \
windows and moonroof (option) for
several minutes before driving will help release the warm air from the p\
assenger compartment. When the engine
is running, close the windows and moonroof and use the recirculation fun\
ction for several minutes to enable the
air conditioning to cool the compartment as quickly as possible.

Windows and optional moonroof
The ECC system will function best if the windows and optional moonroof a\
re closed. If you drive with the
moonroof open, we recommend that you manually adjust the temperature and\
blower control (the LED in the
AUTO switch should be off).
Acceleration
The air conditioning is momentarily disengaged during full-throttle acce\
leration.
Climate control maintenance
Special tools and equipment are required to maintain and carry out repai\
rs on the climate system. Work of this
type should only be done by a trained and qualified Volvo service techni\
cian.
Refrigerant
Volvo cares about the environment. The air conditioning system in your v\
ehicle contains a CFC-free refrigerant -
R134a (HFC134a). This substance will not deplete the ozone layer. The \
approximate amount of R134a contained
in the system is a follows:
6-cylinder engine
Single A/C system: 1.4 lbs (620 g)
Dual
1 A/C system: 2.2 lbs (1000 g)
8-cylinder engine
Single A/C system: 1.5 lbs (700 g)
Dual
1 A/C system: 2.3 lbs (1050 g)
The system also uses PAG oil.
Climate system blower
The climate system blower will be automatically switched off when the en\
gine is not running (even if the ignition
key is in position I or II) to avoid unnecessary battery drain. To acti\
vate the blower, turn the control to the desired
setting.
Passenger compartment blower
Approximately 50 minutes after the ignition is turned off, the blower ma\
y come on automatically, and run for
seven minutes, to remove condensation in the A/C evaporator.
1. Includes the optional rear A/C system

Blower function to reduce battery drain
The climate system's blower functions normally while the engine is runni\
ng.
However, when the engine is switched off (even if the ignition is switc\
hed to positions I or II), the blower control
