(4) Check that the VSC TRAC warning light blinks.
(5) After the measurement, remove the SST and re-
start the engine. At this time, make sure that the
VSC TRAC warning light is off.
(b) Notice in VSC operation.
(1) Removal and reinstallation of VSC±related compo-
nents may cause misadjustment of them. Do not re-
move or reinstall them unless necessary.
(2) When conducting VSC±related operations, do not
fail to make sure that the preparation and the finish-
ing of the operation are all performed in accordance
with the direction in this text.
3. FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A CATALYTIC CONVERTER
CAUTION:
If a large amount of unburned gasoline flows into the converter, it may overheat and create a fire haz-
ard. To prevent this, observe the following precautions and explain them to your customer.
(a) Use only unleaded gasoline.
(b) Avoid prolonged idling.
Avoid running the engine at idle speed for more than 20 minutes.
(c) Avoid spark jump test.
(1) Perform spark jump test only when absolutely necessary. Perform this test as rapidly as possible.
(2) While testing, never race the engine.
(d) Avoid prolonged engine compression measurement.
Engine compression tests must be done as rapidly as possible.
(e) Do not run engine when fuel tank is nearly empty.
This may cause the engine to misfire and create an extra load on the converter.
(f) Avoid coasting with ignition turned off.
(g) Do not dispose of used catalyst along with parts contaminated with gasoline or oil.
4. IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
For vehicles with mobile communication systems such as two±way radios and cellular telephones, observe
the following precautions.
(1) Install the antenna as far as possible away from the ECU and sensors of the vehicle's electronic
system.
(2) Install the antenna feeder at least 20 cm (7.87 in.) away from the ECU and sensors of the ve-
hicle's electronic systems. For details about ECU and sensor locations, refer to the section on
the applicable component.
(3) Do not wind the antenna feeder together with the other wiring as much as possible, also avoid
running the antenna feeder parallel with other wire harness.
(4) Check that the antenna and feeder are correctly adjusted.
(5) Do not install powerful mobile communication system.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
The diagnostic information output from the AID can be confirmed by connecting an oscilloscope to the diag-
nostic information terminal of the AID. It narrows the trouble area to read the waveform on the oscilloscope
when performing the AI system intrusive operation function provided in the SYSTEM CHECK.
(1) Start the engine and warm it up.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
(3) Connect a hand±held tester to the DLC3.
(4) Connect an oscilloscope probe to the AIDI terminal
of the ECM.
(5) Start the engine and turn the tester ON.
(6) On the tester, select the following menu items:
DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / SYSTEM
CHECK / AIR INJ CHECK / MANUAL OPERATION
/ OPERATION 1 and 2.
HINT:
OPERATION 1: AP: OFF, EASV:CLOSE, ASV1:CLOSE,

NOTICE:
This AIR INJECTION CHECK only allows technicians to operate the AI system for 5 seconds.
Furthermore, the check can be performed 4 times a trip. If the test is repeated, intervals of at
least 30 seconds are required between checks.
While the AI system operation using the hand±held tester is prohibited, the tester displays the
prohibition (WAIT or ERROR). If the ERROR (AI STATUS NG) is displayed on the tester, stop the
engine for 10 minutes and then try again.
Performing the AIR INJ CHECK over and over again may cause the damage in the secondary
air injection system. If necessary, put an interval of several minutes between tests to prevent
overheating the system.

PRECAUTION
1. DO NOT HANDLE REFRIGERANT IN AN ENCLOSED
AREA OR NEAR AN OPEN FLAME
2. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION
3. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET LIQUID REFRIGERANT IN
YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN
If liquid refrigerant gets in your eyes or on your skin:
(a) wash the area with lots of cool water.
CAUTION:
Do not rub your eyes or skin.
(b) apply clean petroleum jelly to the skin.
(c) go immediately to a hospital or see a physician for profes-
sional treatment.
4. NEVER HEAT CONTAINER OR EXPOSE IT TO NAKED
FLAME
5. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP CONTAINER OR APPLY
PHYSICAL SHOCKS TO IT
6. DO NOT OPERATE COMPRESSOR WITHOUT
ENOUGH REFRIGERANT IN REFRIGERATION SYS-
TEM
If there is not enough refrigerant in the refrigerant system, oil lu-
brication will be insufficient and compressor burnout may occur.
Necessary care should be taken to avoid this.
7. DO NOT OPEN HIGH PRESSURE MANIFOLD VALVE
WHILE COMPRESSOR IS OPERATE
Open and close only the low pressure valve. If the high pressure
valves are opened, refrigerant flows in the reverse direction
causing the charging cylinder to rupture.
8. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERCHARGE SYSTEM WITH
REFRIGERANT
If refrigerant is overcharged, it causes problems such as insuffi-
cient cooling, poor fuel economy, engine overheating etc.

REMOVAL
HINT:
Removal of the thermostat would have an adverse effect, caus-
ing a lowering of cooling efficiency. Do not remove the thermo-
stat, even if the engine tends to overheat.
1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
2. DISCONNECT WATER INLET FROM WATER INLET
HOUSING
Remove the 3 nuts and disconnect the water inlet from the wa-
ter inlet housing.
3. REMOVE THERMOSTAT
(a) Remove the thermostat.
(b) Remove the gasket from the thermostat.

To turn on the seat heater, push the
switches (ªLº switch for the driver 's
seat and ªRº switch for the front pas-
senger 's seat).
At this time, the indicator light will illumi-
nate to indicate the seat heater is operat-
ing.
The seat heater switches have the follow-
ing positions.
ªHIºÐHigh heating temperature
ªLOºÐLow heating temperature
The key must be in the ªONº position to
operate seat heaters.
Pushing lightly on the opposite side will
turn it off.
CAUTION
Occupants must use caution when op-
erating the seat heater because it
may make them feel too hot or cause
burns at low temperatures (erythema,
varicella). Use extra caution for;
Babies, small children, elderly per-
sons, sick persons or persons with
physical disabilities
Persons who have delicate skin
Persons who are exhausted
Person who have taken alcohol or
drugs which induce sleep (sleeping
drug, cold remedy, etc.)
To prevent the seat overheating, do
not use the seat heater with a blan-
ket, cushion, or other insulating ob-
jects which cover the seat.
NOTICE
Do not put unevenly weighed ob-
jects on the seat and do not stick
sharp objects (needles, nails, etc.)
into the seat.
When cleaning the seats, do not
use organic substances (paint thin-
ner, benzine, alcohol, gasoline,
etc.). They may damage the heater
and seat surface.
To prevent the battery from being
discharge, turn the switch off when
the engine is not running.
