If the vehicle has been locked via Mercedes me
connect, t he additional door lock is not activated
(  page 407).
If the additional door lock is activated, the doors
cannot be opened from the inside.

Opening and closing

Plug-in hybrid: t
he socket Oap is also locked and
unlocked. The socket Oap can be opened even if a
key is detected in the car.
The vehicle is not unlocked:
= if you have locked the vehicle using the key
= if you have locked the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO Locking/unlocking the vehicle with KEYLESS-GO
Requirements:
= The k

ey is outside the vehicle.
= The distance between the key and the vehicle
does not exceed 1 m.
= The driver's door and the door on which the
door handle is used are closed.
The door handles extend automatically: = when a vehicle key is detected (the vehicle is
then not yet unlocked)
= when you unlock the vehicle with the key
= when you touch the outer sensor surface of
the door handle to unlock it The door handles retract automatically:

Pull and hold the door handle. Opening and closing

Insert the emergency key into the lock cylin-
der

Turn the emergency key anti-clockwise to
position 1. 
Turn the emergency key back to its starting
position. 
Remove the emergency key and release the
door handle.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO 
Remove the emergency key (  pag
e 91). If the door handle is retracted:

Insert a Oat, non-me
tallic object behind door
handle 1 from above and pry it slightly out-
ward. 
Reach behind door handle 1 fr
om below, pull
it outward to the pressure point and hold it
there. If the door handle is extended:

Pull door handle 1 outw
ard to the pressure
point and hold it there. 
Insert the emergency key into the lock cylin-
der

. 
Turn the emergency key anti-clockwise to
position 1. 98

Forcefully pull door handle 1 outw ard past
the pressure point. 
Turn the emergency key back to its starting
position. 
Remove the emergency key and release the
door handle.
Locking the doors 
Insert a suitable object, e.g. the emergency
k ey, into opening 1 on the door lock. 
To lock the les-hand side of t
he vehicle: turn
the emergency key clockwise as far as it will
go. 
To lock the right-hand side of the vehicle: tur
n
the emergency key anti-clockwise as far as it
will go.
If the locked door is then closed, it can no longer
be opened fr
om the outside. Boot
Opening the boot lid

xhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
g
ases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the boot
lid is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion. 
Always switch oM t
he engine before
opening the boot lid. 
Never drive with the boot lid open. *
NOTE Damag

above the vehicle The boot lid swings upwards when it is
opened.

Therefore, make sure that there is suP-
cient clear

ance above the boot lid. 
Pull the boot lid handle.

If the boot lid is stopped in an intermediate
position, pull it upw ards. Release it as soon as
it begins to open. 
With the boot lid opening limiter activated,

y pull the stopped boot lid upwards.
If an obstacle obstructs the boot lid during the
aut
omatic opening process, blockage detection
will stop the boot lid. The automatic blockage
detection function is only an aid and is not a sub-
stitute for your attentiveness. Closing the boot lid

WARNING Risk of injur
y from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
no
t secured suPciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi-
cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. 
Always stow objects in such a way that
t

hey cannot be thrown around. 
Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
g

age or loads against slipping or tipping
over. Observe the notes on loading the vehicle.
Notes on closing the boot lid:
y
our vehicle is
equipped with automatic key recognition. If a key
belonging to the vehicle is detected in the vehicle,
the boot lid will not be locked and will pop open
again.
Note that the boot lid will not be locked if the fol-
lowing situation occurs:
= You have locked the vehicle and close the
boot lid while a key belonging to the vehicle is
inside the vehicle.
and
= A second key belonging to the vehicle is not
detected outside the vehicle.
Automatic key recognition is only an aid and is not
a substitute for your attentiveness. 
Before locking, ensure that at least one key
belonging t

o the vehicle is outside the vehicle. 100
Opening and closing


To close the boot lid: pull t he boot lid down-
wards using the handle recess and push it
closed.
% Vehicles with boot lid convenience closing: if
y
ou lightly push the boot lid closed, the power
closing function will automatically pull the
boot lid into the lock.

Parts of the body could become trapped.
Ther
e may be people in the closing area. 
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity
of t
he closing area. 
Use one of the following options to stop

he closing process:
= Press the - button on the key.
= Press or pull the remote operating
switch on the driver's door.
= Press the closing or locking button
on the boot lid. =
Pull t
he boot lid handle. Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS:
it is also
possible t
o stop the closing process by making a
kicking movement below the rear bumper. 
Pull the boot lid handle. Release it as soon as
it begins t

o close. 
If the boot lid is stopped in an intermediate
position, push it do
wnwards.
The boot lid will continue to close. 
Push remote operating switch 1 until t
he
boot lid is fully closed. Opening and closing
