■Daytime running light system
To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers during daytime driving, the
daytime running lights turn on automatically whenever the hybrid system is
operated and the parking brake is released with the headlight switch off or in
the “AUTO” position. (Illuminate brighter than the front position lights.) Day-
time running lights are not designed for use at night.

Vehicles without a smart entry & start system
● When the light switch is in or : The headlights and front fog
lights turn off automatically when the power switch is turned to the “LOCK”
position.
● When the light switch is in : The headlights and all the lights turn off
automatically when the power switch is turned to the “LOCK” position.
To turn the lights on again, turn the power switch to the “ON” position, or turn
the light switch to once and then back to or .
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
● When the light switch is in or : The headlights turn off automati-
cally if the power switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off and
the driver’s door is opened.
● When the light switch is in : The headlights and tail lights turn off auto-
matically if the power switch is tu rned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off
and the driver’s door is opened.
To turn the lights on again, turn the power switch to ON mode, or turn the light
switch to once and then back to or .
The sensor may not function properly if an
object is placed on the sensor, or anything
that blocks the sensor is affixed to the
windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight sys-
tem to malfunction.

Vehicles without a smart entry & start system
A buzzer sounds when the key is removed from the power switch and the
driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
A buzzer sounds when the power switch is turned off or turned to ACCES-
SORY mode and the driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.
■ Battery-saving function
In all conditions following below, the headlights and the other remaining lights
will go off automatically after 20 minutes in order to prevent the vehicle bat-
tery from being discharged:
● The headlights and/or tail lights are on.
● The light switch is in or .
● Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: The power switch is in the
“ACC” or the “LOCK” position.
● Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: The power switch is turned to
ACCESSORY mode or turned off.
This function will be canceled in any of the following situations:
● Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: When the power switch is
turned to the “ON” position.
● Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: When the power switch is turned
to ON mode.
● When the light switch is operated.
● When the door is opened or closed.

Rain-sensing windshield wiper
When is selected, the wiper will operate automatically when the
sensor detects falling rain. The system automatically adjusts wiper
timing in accordance with rain volume and vehicle speed.
When is selected, the sensor sensitivity can be adjusted as fol-
lows by turning the switch ring:
Off
Rain-sensing windshield

Low speed windshield
wiper operation
High speed windshield

Temporary operation
Increases the sensitivity
Decreases the sensitivity

Washer/wiper dual operation
The wiper will automatically
operate a couple of times after
the washer squirts.
(After operating several times,
the wiper operate one more
time after a short delay to pre-
vent dripping.)
■ The windshield wiper and washer can be operated when

The power switch is in the “ON” position.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
The power switch is in ON mode.
■ Raindrop sensor (vehicles with a rain-sensing windshield wiper)
● Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: If the wiper switch is turned to
while the power switch is in the “ON” position, the wiper will operate
once to show that “AUTO” mode is activated.
● Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: If the wiper switch is turned to
while the power switch is in ON mode, the wiper will operate once to
show that “AUTO” mode is activated.
● When the sensor sensitivity ring is turned toward high while in “AUTO”
mode, the wiper will operate once to indicate that the sensor sensitivity is
enhanced.
● If the temperature of the raindrop sensor is 90°C (194°F) or higher, or
-15°C (5°F) or lower, automatic operation may not occur. In this case, oper-
ate the wiper in any mode other than “AUTO” mode.

● The raindrop sensor judges the amount
of raindrops.
An optical sensor is adopted. It may not
operate properly when sunlight from the
rising or setting of the sun intermittently
strikes the windshield, or if bugs etc. are
present on the windshield.
