Marking light*
To direct the driver's attention to a pedestrian,
the headlights can flash on the pedestrian three
times in a row when there is a pedestrian warn­ ing.
This occurs at speeds above approximately
35 mph (60 km/h) if you are outside of illuminat­
ed areas and no detected vehicles are shown. The
high beam assistant* controls the marking
light* <=>
page 44.
The marking light is not used for wild animals.
General information

The following situations may affect the function
of the night vision assist system:
- Poor visibility such as snow, rain, fog or heavy spray
- Dirty lens on the night vision assist camera
Make sure the night vision camera <=>
fig. 124 is
not covered by stickers, deposits or any other ob­
structions because this can impair the night vi­
sion assist function . For information on cleaning,
see<=>
page 351 .
The pedestrian and wild animal recognition de­
pends on the temperature difference between
the person/wild animal and the background . Peo -
~ ple/wild animals may not be detected if the dif-,.....
~ ference is too small. The pedestrian/wild animal N
8 marking and the marking light* deactivate at 0 :E ' Assistance systems
temperatures above approximately 77 °F (25 °C)
and during daylight. If the night vision assist im­
age is selected in the instrument cluster display,
then the
II symbol appears at the top on the
right side.
A WARNING
-Pay attention to traffic and the area around
your vehicle when night vision assist is switch­
ed on. The driver is always responsible for as­
sessing the traffic situation.
- Night vision assist can only warn about peo­
ple and wild animals located within the visu­
al range of the infrared camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in­
strument cluster display.
- Night vision assist may not detect people or
wild animals and mark them if
- they are not in an upright position, for ex­
ample if they are sitting or lying down
and/or
- the silhouette in the display appears in­
complete or interrupted, for example be­
cause the person is partially covered by a
parked vehicle or an animal is covered by
tall grass. This could increase the risk of
an accident.
- Never try to swerve around animals if doing
so will endanger you or other road users, be­
cause this increases the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- Even though the system evaluates the
shape and heat given off by all detected ob­
jects, there are limits to the system . There
may be false warnings.
- For technical reasons, the image pauses in
split second intervals.

Audi drive select
Introduction
App lies to: vehicles with Aud i drive se lect
Drive select makes it possible to exper ience dif­
ferent types of vehicle sett ings in one veh icle .
You can select the d riving modes
Offroad * or
Lift / Offroad *, Allroad *, Comfort , Auto and Dy ­
namic
in the Infota inment system, for example
to switch from a sporty to a comfo rtable driving
mode. In the
I ndividual mode, the settings can
be adjusted to your personal preferences. This
makes it possible to combine sett ings such as a
sporty engine setting with light steer ing .
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive select
The following systems, among other th ings, are

Engine and automatic tran smis sion
Depend ing on the mode, the engine and auto ­
matic transmission respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements . In the sporty
Dynam ic mode, the
transm iss ion shifts at higher speed ranges .

:E ' Air suspension *
The air suspension* is an electronically-control­
l ed air suspension and damping sys tem . The ad ­
justment depends on the driving mode selected, steering movements, the driver's braking and ac­
celerat ion, and as the road surface, vehicle speed
and load. The veh icle ground clearance depends
on the mode selected and the speed.
The ground clearance increases s ignificantly
when the vehicle is in the
All road mode . At
speeds from approximate ly 50 mph (80 km/h) to
75 mph (120 km/h), the ground clearance re­
duces in stages . When the speed decreases, the
g round clea rance increases again a utomat ically.
The ground clearance is the lowest in
Dynamic
mode.
Steering
The power steering adapts. Ind irect steer ing that
moves easily as in
Comfort mode is especia lly
suited to long drives on highways. The
Dynam ic
mode provides sporty, direct steering.
All-wheel steer ing*
All-wheel steer ing increases dr iving comfort by
providing add it ional steering ability at the rear
axle. Steer ing in the opposite d irection at low
speeds dec reases the turning rad ius. Steering in
the same d irect io n a t high speeds imp roves the
r e sponse t ime whi le increas ing dr iv ing stab ility at
the same time .
Sport differential*
As a componen t of the all wheel d rive system
(quattro)
~ page 146, the sport diffe rential dis­
tr ib utes the dr iv ing power to the rear ax le de­
pending on the situa tion. The dis tribution of
power var ies dependi ng on the selected mode
from moderate
(Comfort ) to sporty (Dynamic ).
The goa l is a high level of agility and ability to ac ­
celerate on curves . The veh icle is very responsive
to steer ing.
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)*
The behavior when accelerating can be adjusted
from comfortab le to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode . Adaptive cru ise control a lso

responds to the driv ing behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.
Engine sound*
T he eng ine sound adap ts to the c urren t mode
and can be subtle to sporty .

-Make sure there is enough clearance above
and below the vehicle when pa rk ing. The
height of the ve hicle (gro und clea rance) can
change once it is par ked due to temperature
fluctuations, changes to the load conditions
and changes to the dr iving modes.
- When transporting the vehicle on a car car ­
r ier, train, ship or by other means, o nly tie
the vehicle down at the runn ing s urface of
the ti res, which is the outer c ircumference.
Sec uring the vehicle at the axle compo­
ne nts , sus pension str uts o r towing eyes is
no t pe rm itted because the pres sure in the
air suspens ion s truts ca n change d uring
tr anspo rt . The ve hicle may not be secu red
sufficiently if this ha ppens.

Assistance systems
~ Select in the Infotainment system: IMENUI but-
ton

~ Select and confirm the desired setting .
You can change the driving mode when the vehi­
cle is stationary or whi le driving. If traffic per­
mits, after changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recent ly
selected mode is a lso activated for the engine.
Offroad * or Lift/ Offroad* -activates offroad
functions to support driving on rough terrain .
The engine, transmission and steering adjust and
the Start/Stop system* switches off. Applies to
air suspension*: the vehicle also lifts for passing
over obstacles to maintain maximum ground
clearance.
Adjusting the Individual mode

Allroad * -on ly for air suspension*: the vehicle
li fts to maintain higher ground clearance for dif­
ficult stretches of road .
Comfort -provides a comfort-oriented vehicle
setup and is suited fo r long drives on highways.

namic driv in g feel and is suited for everyday use.
Dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving feel
and is suited to a spo rty driving style.

The lift/ Offroad mode switches to Allroad
mode when dr iving above approximately
20 mph (30 km/h) and the veh icle automati­
cally lowers again. These modes may only be
used on a temporary bas is and are not intend­
ed for continuous d riving.
(D Tips
- The filled-in boxes in the Infotainment sys­
tem represent the current vehicle level. If
the box is wh ite or the boxes are blinking,
the veh icle is lift ing or lowe ring. If on ly the
bottom box is fi lled in, the vehicle is at the
l owest level ( le a st amount of g round clear ­
ance) . If all the segme nts are fi lled in, then
the vehicle is at the highest level (highest
ground clear a nee) .
- The target level is hig hligh ted wi th a
red
frame while the vehicle is lifting o r lower­
i ng. The frame is then hidden when the ve­
hicle reaches the target level.
- The vehicle lifts up to the highest level
when you se lect
lift / Offroad . Select an ­
other mode to lower the vehicle again.
Rear lowering

The rear of the vehicle con be lowered to make
loading and unloading easier .

T he L ED in the button t urns on while the ve hicl e
is lowering . When the loading level has been
reached, the LE D stays on as long as the rear of
t h e vehicle is lowered . The LED turns off when
the vehicle returns to the original level.
CD Note
- Before the rea r lowering e nds, make sure
there is enough clearance above the vehicle
and the l uggage compartment lid, if it is
open.
- Do not park the vehicle in a lowered load ing
level.
(D Tips
- The ve hicle w ill not lowe r if one of the vehi­
cle doors is open
or when the ignition is
switched off and the compressed air reser­
voir is empty . The butto n LED bli nks three
times .
- If the compressed air reservoir is empty, it
is refilled while driving at speeds above
25 mph (40 km/h).

-Always look for t raff ic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it direct ly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attention . The driver is always
responsib le when entering or leaving a park­
ing space and during similar maneuvers.
- Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing, are not detected by the system.
-
-Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially caut ious of small children
and animals.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle 's sur­
round ings, using the rearview mirror as
well.
- The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park ­
ing system may be impa ired as a result .

@ Note
-Some objects are not detected or disp layed
by the system under certain circumstances:
- objects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, vertical poles or fences
- objects above the sensors such as wall ex­
tensions
- objects with certain surfaces or structures
such as cha in link fences or powder snow
- If you continue driving closer to a low ob­
ject, it may disappear from the sensor range . Note that you will no longer be
warned about th is obstacle .
- Keep enough distance from the curb to re­
duce the risk of damage to the rims .
(D Tips
-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as :
- certa in road s urfaces or whe n the re is tall
grass
- externa l ult rasonic sources such as from
cleaning vehicles
- in heavy rain, snow, or th ick vehicle ex­
ha ust
- We recommend that you practice par king in
a traffic -free location o r parking lot to be­
come familiar with the system . When doing
this, there shou ld be good light and weath­
er conditions.
- You can change the vo lume of the signa ls

Description

The rear parking system is an audible parking
aid .
Desc ripti on
There is a sensor in the rear bumper cover. If
these detect an obstacle, audible signals warn
you .
Make sure the sensors are not covered by stick­
ers, deposits or any other obstructions as it may
impair the function of the system . For informa­
tion on cleaning, see
c::;, page 351 .
The range at which the sensors begin to measure
is approximately:
side 3 ft (0.90 m)
rear
center 5.2 ft (1.60 m)
The closer you get to the obstacle, the shorter
the interval between the audible signals . A con­
tinuous tone sounds when the obstacle is less
than approximately 1 foot (0.30 meters) away.

If the distance to an obstacle remains constant,
the volume of the distance warning gradually
lowers after a few seconds until it is muted (this
is not apply in the continuous tone range). If the
obstacle becomes closer than it was before the

sound was m uted, no tone w ill so und . Pay atten­
tion to the vehicle's surroundings when you start
to drive.

Switching on/off

short confirmation tone sounds and the L ED in
the button turns on.
Switching on automatically
The system switches on automatically when re­
verse gear is engaged while the engine is run­ ning. A brief confirmation tone will sound.
If the veh icle approaches an obstacle at speeds
under approximate ly 6 mph (10 km/h), the park ­
ing aid will switch on automatically . Audible sig­
na ls will sound only when the obstacle is already
clearly in the sensor detection range .
Switching off automatically
The system switches off automatically when driv­
ing forward faster than 6 mph (10 km/h).

Segments in the visual display
The segments in front of and behind the vehicle
i::> fig. 130 help you to determine the distance be­
tween your vehicle and an obstacle . The red
lines* mark the expected d irection of trave l ac ­
cording to the steering ang le. A white segment
indicates an identified obstacle that is outside of
the veh icle 's path. Red segments show identified
obstacles that are in your veh icle's path . As your
vehicle comes closer to the obstacle , the seg­
ments move closer to the vehicle . T he collision
area has been reached when the next to last seg­
ment is displayed . Obstacles in the collis ion area,
i ncluding those outside of the vehicle's path, are

If you press the P,qA button to switch the park­
ing aid off, it can only be reactivated auto­
matically when one of the following condi­
tions is met:
- The vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/
h) .
-The ignit ion is switched off and back on
again .
- The parking brake is set and then released .
- The selector lever must be in the "P" posi-
tion .
