Programming the button: Part 1 with the
controls
1. Switch the ignition o n.
2 . Press and ho ld both outer buttons in the roof
headliner
c::> page 46, fig. 43 unti l the LED @
turns off completely (after about 20 sec­
onds). T his procedure clears the standard co­
des that were set at the factory and does
not
need to be repeated aga in to program the
other buttons .
3 . Briefly p ress t he b utton on the roof headline r
th at yo u wou ld like to prog ram.
4 . Wait un til the LED@ begi ns to blink quick ly .
Programm ing mode is ac tive for 5 minutes .
5 . Move in front of yo ur vehicle while holding
the orig inal remote contro l for the system
that would like to program to a button in the
roof headliner.

6 . Hold the remote control up to the radiator
grille on your vehicle¢

7. Press and ho ld the remote control until t he
turn signals on yo ur vehicle bl ink . Th is may
tak e up to 30 seconds .
8 . If t he emergen cy f lashers blink th ree times,
the progr amming wa s suc cessful.
If t h e
emergency f las her s only blink one time, the
5 minute time limit for t he p rogramm ing has
ended o r the programm ing was not success­
f ul. Repeat the programming from the third
step, o r try changing the distance to the radi­
ator grille.
Open ing and closing
9 . If the garage door or o ther sys tem does not
open using the b uttons in the roof head liner
even tho ugh the programming was success­
ful, the system may use a ro lling code in­
stead of a fixed code.
Rolling code program­
ming
must be perfo rmed c::> page 48.
The other two buttons in the roof hea dliner can
be programmed according to the inst ruct ions
above. Beg in with the third step.
Eras ing button prog ramming
T he programmed but tons can not be erased in di­
vidually . They must a ll be erase d together . Re­
program the buttons if necessary .
"' Switch th e ignit ion on.
"' Press and hold both ou ter but tons i n the roo f
headliner until the LED @turns off complete ly
(after about 20 seconds).
Reprogramming the buttons
"' Swit ch th e ignit ion on.
"' To reprogram an indivi dual but ton, p ress and
hold the button unti l the LED @starts to flash
quickly (afte r about 10 seconds) . Release the
button immediate ly. Prog ramming mode is ac­
tive for 5 m inutes.
"' Continue w ith the fifth step.
@ Tips
- Prog ramming using the buttons in t he roof
head liner is not poss ible with a ll Infota in­
ment systems . If this is the case, p rogram
t he b uttons as described in vers io n A
c::> page 46.
- T he required distance between t he hand
t ra nsmitte r and t he Homelink module in
t he radia tor grille ¢

Rolling code programming
Applies to: vehicles w ith garage door opener (Homeli nk)
Rolling code programming is also needed for
some systems.
Identifying a rolling code
"' Press and hold the button in the roof headliner
that was already programmed .
"' Watch the LED @
c:> page 46, fig. 43. If the LED
blinks qu ickly, the systems (such as a garage
door) is equ ipped with a rolling code.
"' Program the rolling code as follows:
Activating the motor unit in a system
"'Locate the programming button on the sys-
tem's motor unit. The exact location and color
of the button may vary depending on the brand
of the system .
"'Pr ess the programm ing button on the ga rage
doo r opener motor unit (this w ill usually acti­
vate an "indicator" on the motor unit). You now
have approximate ly
30 seconds to program the
button in the roof headliner.
Programming the button in the roof
headliner
"' Press and hold the previously programmed but­
ton in the roof headliner for 2 seconds .
"' To end rolling code programming, press and
hold the button again for two seconds .
"' With some systems, the button may need to be
pressed a third time to end the programming
process .
After programming, the system should detect
the signal and begin mov ing when the button in
the roof headliner is pressed . Now you may pro ­
gram the other buttons as needed .
(D Tips
-The rolling code can be programmed more
quickly and more easily with the help of a
second person.
- If you have difficulty programming the roll­
in g code, referring to the user guide for the
system may help .

AUTO • Automatic headlight control
W ith the swi tch in the AUTO posi tion, the low
beams are switched on a utomat ica lly depending
on the ambient light, for example in a tunnel, at
d usk and when it is raining or snowing . When the
l ow beams are switched on, the
:oo: symbol
comes on . The low beams remain switched on re­
ga rdless of the amb ient lig ht when you turn on
the fog l ights.
~ W hen you turn off t he ignition, the low beams

Wi th a utomat ic head light con trol, you also h ave
t h e high-beam function available. However, if
yo u have not switched high beams back to low
beams while d riving with automatic headlight
contro l, only the low beams come on the next
t ime you turn on automa tic headl ight control. In
o rder to retur n to h igh beams agai n, you first
have to pull the hig h beam lever back to the nor­
mal pos ition an d then push the leve r fo rward.
Light sensor malfunction
In the event of a light sensor malfunction, the
drive r is notified in the ins trument cluster dis ­
play:

For safety reasons, the low beams are turned on
permanent ly with the switc h in
AU TO . However,
you can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
i ng t he lig ht switch . Have the light sensor
c h ec ked as soo n as poss ible at an au thorized Aud i
dealer or other qualified workshop .

-Automatic headlights * are on ly inten ded to

- Crashes can happen w hen you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
se en by other moto rists . A lways turn on the
hea dligh ts so t hat yo u ca n see ahea d an d so
that oth ers ca n see your ca r from th e back.
- Please obey all laws w hen us in g t he lighti ng
sys tems described here.

- The lig ht sensor for hea dlight control is lo­
cated in the rea r view m irro r mount. You
should the refore not apply any sticke rs to
the win dsh ield in this area in or der to pre­
v ent malfu nctions o r fail ures .

-When yo u remove your key from the igni ­
tion whi le the vehicle's lights are t urned on,
a buzzer sounds as long as the driver's door
i s open.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn s ignals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature d ifference
between the inside and outs ide. They will
clear short ly after sw itch ing them on. This
does not affect the serv ice life of the light­
i ng.
- In the event of a light se nsor mal funct ion,
the driver is not ified in the instr ument clus ­
te r d is p lay

Fog lights
The s ide marker lights or low beams must be
sw itched on. Whe n the fog lights are sw itched
on, the g reen check light at the edge of the
sw itch comes o n.
If automat ic driving light control AUTO is activat­
ed, the low beams are sw itched on when the fog
lights are turned on.
Rear fog lights
Low beams or side marker lights with fog lights
must be turned on.

When the rear fog lights are turned on, the yel ­
l ow check light at t he edge of the switch comes
on .

The re ar fog lig hts should on ly be t urned on in
accor dance with traffic reg ulation, as the
li ghts are bright for following t raff ic .

The leaving home illum inates the area outside
the ve hicle when you unlock the vehicle. This
funct ion can be switched on and off .
The Coming home and Leaving home functions
on ly operate when it is dark and the light switc h
i s in the
AUTO pos ition.
Auto headlights
When the light sw itch is in the AUTO c:> page 49
pos ition, the switch-on point of the lights can be
c hanged in the automat ic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models: You can switch the daytime runn ing

On and Off .
Canada model s:

Travel mode (Canada models)*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent
light from passing through. For more informa­
tion, please see your authori zed Audi dealer or
authorized repair facility .
(!) Tips
When travel mode* is activated, a display in
the driver information system indicates this each time you switch the ignition on .
Adaptive light
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive light
When driving around bends, the relevan t area of
the rood is better illuminated .

Switching on adaptive light

The adaptive light system is a combination of the
dynamic and the static cornering lights . With the
lights switched on, the dynamic cornering light
adapts to driving on curves . This is dependent
upon the vehicle speed and steering angle. This
provides better lighting through the curve. The

system operates in a speed range from approxi­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h) to 68 mph (110 km/h).
The static cornering light switches on at speeds
of up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
certain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn signal is activated. The area to the side of
the vehicle is illuminated better when turning.
Emergency flashers
The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle ore in on emer­
gency situation.

gency flashers on or off .
When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time . The turn sig­
nal indicator lights
B II in the instrument clus­
ter , as well as the light in the emergency flasher
switch ~ blink likewise. The emergency flashers
also work when the ignition is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatical­
ly if you are in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .
(0 Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
-you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles coming can
see you, or when
-your vehicle has broken down or you are in
an emergency situation, or when

-yo ur vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or
if you are towing another vehicle behind
you.
Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever on the le~ side of the steering column
is us ed to operat e the turn signals and th e high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

The turn signal and high beam leve r has the fol­

Auto-blink
• Move the lever (up or down) just to t he point of
resistance to use the turn signals for as long as
yo u need them, for example when chang ing
lanes .
• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance and then release it right away to
make the turn signals b li nk
three times. You
can use this fea ture for example when ch anging
lanes on hig hways.
High beam ~D
• Push the l ever forward @ to sw itch on the h igh
beam.
• Pull t he lever back towa rds you to sw itch off
t he hig h beam.
Headlight flasher ~D
• Pu ll the lever toward the steering wheel © to

The inst rument ill umination (for dia ls and
needles) lig hts o n when the ignition is switch ­
ed on and t he vehi cle lights are turned off . As
t he daylight fade s, the illum ina tio n of the di­
a ls li kewise dims au toma tically a nd wil l go
ou t com plete ly when the outs ide light is very
low. This feature is meant to remi nd you to
sw itch on the headlights when o utsi de light
conditions become poor.

Using the sun visors makes driving safer .

Vanity mirror
The v anity mirrors on the sun visors are covered.
When the lid is opened @, the mirro r light in the
head line r turns on automatically . It turns off
when the lid is closed and the visor is fo lded up
again.

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
spond ing pos ition:
@ -Windshield wiper off
(D -Interval mode. The windshie ld w iper auto­
matica lly activates when you drive 2 mph (4 km/
h). The h igher the sensit ivity of the rain sensor is
set (switch @to the right), the earlier the wind ­
shield wipers react to moisture on the wind­
shie ld. In some models, you can switch rain sen­
sor mode off and sw itch intermittent mode on in
the MM!* . Select:

In inte rm ittent mode, yo u can adjust the
i n terval time using the @switch.

® -Clean the windshield . To elimin ate water
d roplets, the winds hield wipe r performs one af­
terwipe operatio n afte r seve ral seconds while
driving . You can switch this f unction off by mov -

ing the leve r to pos ition ® within 10 seconds of
the afterwipe ope ration. The afterwipe function
i s react ivated the next time the ignition is sw itch­
ed on.
The rear wiper automatica lly switches on when
the reverse gear is engaged and the front wind­
shield wipers are on and in operation .
Cl eaning the headlig hts*. The headlight was he r
system * operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position@, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
@ -Wipe the rear w indow. The rear w iper moves
a bout every 4 se conds .
(!)-Clean the rear w indow . T he number of wip­
i ng operations depe nds on how long the lever is
held in position 7.
& WARNING
- Th e rain sensor is on ly inten ded to ass ist the
driver. The driver is st ill responsi ble for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility cond itions.
- The windsh ield may not be t reated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable condit ions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can resu lt in i ncreased glare.
Wiper blade chatte r is also possib le.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clea r view and safe
driving.
@ Note
- In the case of frost, c heck whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to the
windshield . Switching on the w indshield
w ipers can damage the w iper blades!
- Pr ior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
wiper system must be sw itched off (lever in
posit io n 0) . This helps to preven t un inte n­
ti onal sw itchi ng on and damage to the
w indshield wipe r sy stem.
