.. Open the vehicle functions by press ing the but­

The efficiency program can help you to use less
fuel. It evaluates driving info rmat ion in reference
to fu el consumption and shows other equipment
in fluenc ing co nsumption

T he disp lay shows up to t hree other items of
equipment @. T he equ ipment using the most
f uel is listed first. If more than three items using
fuel a re switched on, the equipment t hat is c ur­
re ntly us ing the most fuel is d isp layed.
A scale @ also shows the current total consump­
tion of all other equipment.
Fuel economy messages

Fuel economy messages are displayed when fuel
consumption is increased by certain conditions. If
yo u follow these economy tips, you can red uce
your vehicle 's fuel consumption. The messages
appea r automatically and are only displayed in
the efficiency program . The fuel economy mes­
sages turn off a utomatically a fter a ce rtain per i­
o d of t ime.
.,. To turn an economy message off immediately
after it appears, p ress any button on the m ulti­
fu nction stee ring wheel.

- Once you have turned an eco nomy tip off, it
w ill only appear aga in afte r you turn the ig­
nition o n ag ain.
- Th e economy tips are not d isp layed in every
ins tanc e, bu t rather in in terva ls over a per i­
od of time .

Lap timer and engine oil
temperature indicator
Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with lap timer (S models)
The engine oil temperature is only shown in the
lap timer display.
Lap timer
You can record and evaluate lap times with the
lap timer in the display
i=:,page 32, fig. 16. Th e
time is measured in minutes, seconds and
1/10
seconds . With lap times longer than 60 minutes,
the hour is also shown and the display of
1/10 seconds is removed.
The time measurement on an individua l lap ends
after
99 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds. A
new lap starts automatically after that .
The measurement ends after a maximum of
30
laps. You can then evaluated the lap times or
start a new time measurement .
Engine oil temperature indicator
I f the engine o il temperature is below
140 °F
(60 °C), the 'l=:1: symbol followed by three hy­
phens"- --" and the °C un it is shown .
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture when the engine oil temperature is between
176 °f (80 °C) and 248 °f (120 °C) under nor­
mal d riving conditions. The engine oil tempera­
ture may be higher if there is heavy eng ine load
and high temperatures outside. This is not a
cause for concern as long as the .¢
page 20 or
Ill i=:,page 24 indicator lights in the display do
not blink.
A WARNING
Your focus should always be on driving your
vehicle safely . As the driver, you have com­
plete responsibility for safety in traffic . Only
use the functions such as the lap timer in such
a way that you always maintain complete con­
trol over your vehicle in all traffic s ituations.

Timing laps

the same time . The last time measurement

If the symbol . is green dur ing the current lap
time measurement, the cur rent time is faster
than the prev ious best time. If the symbol. is
red, the current time is slower @.

Remote control key or convenience key
The convenience key* is a vehicle remote control
key with special functions¢

With the remote control key, you can lock and
unlock the vehicle centrally and start the engine.
Number of keys
You can check the number of keys assigned to
your vehicle in the MMI. This a llows you to make
sure you have received all of the keys when you purchase a used vehicle. Select: the
I MENU I but­
ton
> Car> Systems* control button > Program­
med keys .
Replacing a key
If a key is lost, see an authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility. Have
this key de­
activated.
It is important to bring all keys with
you . If a key is lost, you should report it to your
insurance company.
Immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents unauthorized use of
the vehicle. The vehicle may not start if another

radio device such as a key for another vehicle or a
transponder is located on the key ring.
Data in the remote control key or
convenience key
While driving, service and maintenance-relevant
data is continuous ly stored on your remote con­
tro l key or conven ience key*. Your Audi service
advisor can read out this data and tell you about
the work your vehicle needs.
A WARNING
-- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the
children could start the engine or operate
electrica l equipment such as power win­
dows .
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
p lete stop. Otherwise, the steering lock
could engage sudden ly and increase the risk
of an accident.
(D Tips
The operation o f the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference from
transmitters in the vicinity of the vehicle
working in the same frequency range (for ex­
ample, a cell phone or radio equipment).
Central locking system description
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally.
There are different ways, depending on vehicle
equipment:
- Remote control key
c:> page 3 7,
- Lock cylinder on the driver's door c:>page 39,
or
- Sensors in the front door handles on vehicles
with a convenience key*
c:> page 38,
- Central locking switch inside c:> page 39.
Selective unlocking

The doors and luggage compa rtment lid will lock
when they close. You can set in the MMI whether ..,.

only the driver 's door or the entire vehicle should
un lock when unlocking

Automatic locking (Auto Lock )
The Auto Lock function locks all doors and the
luggage compartment lid once the speed has
ex­
ceeded approx imately 9 mph (15 km/h).
The car is unlocked again once the ign ition key is
removed. In addition, the vehicle can be u nlocked
if the opening function in the power locki ng sys ­
tem sw itch is used or one of the door handles is
pulled .
I n the event of a crash with a irbag deployment ,
the doors automat ica lly unlock to allow access to
the vehicle.
Ant i-theft alarm s yst em *
If t he ant i-theft alarm system detects a veh icle
break-in, audio and v isual warning signals are
tr iggered .
The ant i- theft alarm system turns on automati ­
cally when you lock the vehicle .
It deactivates
when unlocking using the remote control key or
by touc hing the sensor on the door handle (con­
ven ience key).
To sw itch the ala rm off, press the@ button o n
the remote control key or convenience key or
sw itch the ignition on. The a la rm also stops auto ­
mat ica lly after a certain amount of time.
Tu rn sign als
The turn s ignals flash tw ice when you unlock the
vehicle and flash once when you lock the vehicle .
If they do not f lash, one of the doors, the lug­
gage compartment lid or the hood is not locked
or the ignition is still sw itched on (the latter ap ­
plies to veh icles with a convenience key) .
Unintentionally loc king your se lf out
The fo llowing conditions prevent you from lock­
ing your remote control key in the vehicle :
- The vehicle does not lock with the central lock­
ing switch if the driver 's door is op en
r::!;> page 39.
-On vehicles with a convenience key* , the lug ­
gage compartment lid un locks again after clos-

ing if the most recent ly used key is in the lug­
gage compartment.
To avo id accidentally locking yourself out, do not
l ock your vehicle with the remote control key or
convenience key* until all doors and the luggage
compartment lid ar e closed.
{!) Tips
- Do not leave va luables unattended in the ve­
hicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- If the LED in the upper e dge of the drive r's
door turns on for about 30 seconds after
the vehicle is locked, there is a malfunction in the power locking or the anti-theft a larm
system *. Have the problem corrected by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility.

Replacing the remote control key battery

.,. Insert the new battery with the "+" facing up .
.. Press the cover back onto the key until it clicks
into place .
We recommend having the battery replaced by
an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility .
@ For the sake of the environment
Dead batteries must be disposed of using
methods that will not harm the env ironment.
Do not dispose of them in household trash .
@ Tips
The replacement battery must meet the same
specifications as the orig inal battery.
Remote control key synchronization
The remote control key must be synchronized if
the vehicle does not lock and unlock with the re­
mote control.

seconds, the vehicle locks again automat ically.
This feature prevents the vehicle from being acci ­
dentally left unlocked over a long period of time.
This does not apply if you press the~ button ©
button for at least one second.
For vehicles with
safety central locking (selective
unlocking)

and the fuel f iller door are opened by pressing
the ~ button @ once, and the entire vehicle un-
locks when the button is pressed twice .

- Only use the remote control key or conven­
ience key within view of the vehicle.
- Do not use the remote contro l when you are
inside the vehicle. Otherwise, you could un­
i ntent ionally lock the vehicle. If you then
tried to start the engine or open a door, the
alarm would be triggered . If this happens,
press the un lock button@ .
- The vehicle can only be locked when these­
lector lever is in the
P posit ion.
- Only use the panic function in an emergen­
cy.
- For information on additional remote con­
trol key or convenience key functions, refer

Locking and unlocking with the
convenience key

Only the front doors and luggage compartment
li d can be unlocked or locked. The remote control
key must be within a range of about
5 ft (1.5 m)
from the door or the luggage compartment lid . It
makes no d ifference whether the remote con trol
key is in yo ur jac ket pocket, purse or br iefcase .
If you hold the door handle while lock ing, this
can prevent the locking funct ion.
The door cannot be opened for a brief period di­
rectly after locking it. This allows you the oppor­
tun ity to check that the driver 's door is locked .
The settings in the MMI specify if the entire vehi­
cle or one of the doors is unlocked when unlock­
i ng the vehicle¢

@ Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for a long peri­
od of t ime, note the following:
- The proximity sensor sw itches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to
pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open it.
- The energy management system gradually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the battery from dra ining and to
ma inta in the veh icle's ab ility to start for as
long as possible. You may not be able to un­
lock yo ur vehicle us ing the convenience key.

FCC reg ulations in the Un ited States and the
Industry Canada regulat ions, refer to
