Parking Brake See
Oper. ManualWhen you engage or release the electronic parking brake, the red
indicator lamp for the electronic parking brake flashes for
approximately 10 seconds. Afterward, it goes out or comes on
continuously. The yellow warning lamp for the electronic parking
brake comes on.
The electronic parking brake is malfunctioning or overheated for
example due to overvoltage or undervoltage.XDrive off carefully.XContact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center as soon as
possible.
In the event of overvoltage or undervoltage:
XRemove the cause of the overvoltage or undervoltage, e.g.
charge the battery or restart the engine.XSwitch ignition off and back on again, and engage or release
electronic parking brake.
If the electronic parking brake still cannot be released:
XContact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center as soon as
possible.
If overheated:
XLet vehicle cool down, and do not engage electronic parking
brake during this time.

XSwitch ignition off and back on again, and engage or release

Parking Brake
InoperativeWhen you engage or release the electronic parking brake, the red
indicator lamp for the electronic parking brake flashes and goes
out after approx. 10 seconds. The yellow warning lamp for the
electronic parking brake comes on.
The electronic parking brake is malfunctioning.XSwitch ignition off and back on again, and engage or release
electronic parking brake.
If the electronic parking brake cannot be engaged:
XShift the transmission to park position P (Y page 263).XProtect vehicle from rolling away while parked by using a chock
from the vehicle tool kit ( Y page 362).XContact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center as soon as
possible.$

Check Brake Fluid
LevelThere is insufficient brake fluid in the reservoir.
Risk of accident!XStop the vehicle in a safe location or as soon as it is safe to do
so.XEngage the electronic parking brake.XDo not drive any further.XContact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center or call Roadside
Assistance.
Do not add brake fluid! This will not solve the problem.
GWarning!
Driving with the message Check Brake Fluid Level displayed can result in an accident. Have
your brake system checked immediately.
Do not add brake fluid before checking the brake system. Overfilling the brake fluid reservoir can
result in spilling brake fluid on hot engine parts and the brake fluid catching fire. You can be
seriously burned.
! If you find that the brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir has fallen to the minimum mark
or below, have the brake system checked for brake pad thickness and leaks.

ManualIn addition, the yellow ESC warning lamp ÷ and the yellow ESC
OFF warning lamp å come on.
The brake system is still functioning normally but due to a
malfunction, the BAS, the ESC, and the hill-start assist system are
unavailable. XContinue driving with added caution. Wheels may lock during
hard braking, reducing steering capability.XAdjust driving to be consistent with reduced braking
responsiveness.XHave the system checked at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center as soon as possible.
Failure to follow these instructions increases the risk of an
accident.

Operator's ManualIn addition, the yellow ESC warning lamp ÷ and the yellow ESC
OFF warning lamp å come on.
The self-diagnosis may not be completed yet.
The brake system is still functioning normally but without the BAS,
the ESC, and the hill-start assist system available.XDrive a short distance with added caution at a vehicle speed of
above 12 mph (20 km/h).
When the message disappears, the ESC is available again.
If the message does not disappear:
XContinue driving with added caution. Wheels may lock during
hard braking, reducing steering capability.XAdjust driving to be consistent with reduced braking
responsiveness.XHave the system checked at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center as soon as possible.
Failure to follow these instructions increases the risk of an

SRS Malfunction
Service RequiredThere is a malfunction in the Supplemental Restraint System
(SRS). The air bags or Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) could
deploy unexpectedly or fail to activate in an accident. XDrive with added caution to the nearest authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center.6

In the event a malfunction of the SRS is indicated as outlined above, the SRS may not be
operational.
For your safety, we strongly recommend that you contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center
immediately to have the system checked. Otherwise the SRS may not be activated when needed
in an accident, which could result in serious or fatal injury, or it might deploy unexpectedly and
unnecessarily which could also result in injury.

InoperativeThe Trunk Wing does not retract to its home position completely
and will extend again if possible.
If movement of the Trunk Wing is blocked, for example by ice:XMake sure to eliminate the cause for the blockage.XTurn off the engine and lock the vehicle.XAfter a few minutes, start the engine.
The Trunk Wing will move to its home position.
If the problem still persists or the cause cannot be identified:

125 mphThe Trunk Wing does not extend into its end position completely.
It will only extend as far as possible.
The vehicle speed is limited to 125 mph (200 km/h).
If movement of the Trunk Wing is blocked, for example by ice:XMake sure to eliminate the cause for the blockage.XTurn off the engine and lock the vehicle.XAfter a few minutes, start the engine.

Check Coolant
Level See
Operator's ManualThe coolant level is too low. XAdd coolant ( Y page 324).XIf you have to add coolant frequently, have the cooling system
checked at an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.GWarning!
Do not spill antifreeze on hot engine parts. Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol which may burn
if it comes into contact with hot engine parts. You could be seriously burned.
! Do not ignore the low engine coolant level warning. Extended driving with the message
and symbol displayed may cause serious engine damage not covered by the Mercedes-Benz
Limited Warranty.
Do not drive without sufficient amount of coolant in the cooling system. The engine will
overheat causing major engine damage.

Coolant Level Low
Stop Vehicle Turn
Engine OffThe coolant is too hot.XStop the vehicle immediately as soon as it is safe to do so.XTurn off the engine immediately.XEngage the electronic parking brake.XOnly start the engine again after the message disappears. You
could otherwise damage the engine.XObserve the coolant temperature in the multifunction display.XIf the temperature rises again: Contact an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center immediately.
During severe operation conditions and stop-and-go city traffic,
the coolant temperature may rise close to 248‡ (120†).
GWarning!
Driving when your engine is overheated can cause some fluids which may have leaked into the
engine compartment to catch fire. You could be seriously burned.
Steam from an overheated engine can cause serious burns which can occur just by opening the
engine hood. Stay away from the engine if you see or hear steam coming from it.
Stop the vehicle in a safe location away from other traffic. Turn off the engine, get out of the
vehicle and do not stand near the vehicle until the engine has cooled down.
! The engine should not be operated with the coolant temperature above 248‡ (120†).
Doing so may cause serious damage which is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited
Warranty.

will overheat due to an inoperative water pump which may result
in damage to the engine. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.XIf it is intact: Do not continue to drive the vehicle with this
message displayed. Doing so could result in serious engine
damage that is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited
Warranty.XObserve the coolant temperature in the multifunction display.XDrive to the nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz Center
immediately.?The radiator cooling fan is malfunctioning.XObserve the coolant temperature in the multifunction display.
If the coolant temperature is below 248‡ (120†), you may
continue driving to an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.XAvoid placing heavy loads on the engine (e.g. by driving uphill)
