Emergency
Removing the safety vest
The safety vests are located in the stowage com-
partments in the driver's and front passenger
door.
Pull out safety vest bag 1 by the loop.Open the safety vest bag and pull out the

The requirements deNned by the legal standard
are only fulNlled if the safety vest is the correct

Removing the Nre extinguisher&WARNING Risk of accident due to an
incorrectly secured Nre extinguisher in the
driver's footwell
A Nre extinguisher may impede pedal travel or
block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardises the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
The Nre extinguisher can be Oung around and
injure the driver or other vehicle occupants.
Always store and secure the Nre extin-
guisher in the bracket.Do not remove the Nre extinguisher while

Notes on Oat tyres
&WARNING Risk of accident due to a Oat
tyre
A Oat tyre severely aMects the driving charac-
teristics as well as the steering and braking of
the vehicle.
Tyres without run-Oat characteristics: Do not drive with a Oat tyre.Change the Oat tyre immediately with an
emergency spare wheel or spare wheel.
Alternatively, consult a qualiNed special-
ist workshop.
Tyres with run-Oat characteristics:
Observe the information and warning
notes on MOExtended tyres (run-Oat
tyres).
In the event of a Oat tyre, the following options are
available depending on your vehicle's equipment:
= Vehicles with MOExtended tyres: it is possible
to continue the journey for a short period of time. Make sure you observe the notes onMOExtended tyres (run-Oat tyres)
(  page 330).
= Vehicles with a TIREFIT kit: you can repair the
tyre so that it is possible to continue the jour-
ney for a short period of time. To do this, use
the TIREFIT kit (  page 332).
=
Vehicles with Mercedes me connect: you can
make a call for breakdown assistance via the overhead control panel in the case of a break-
down (  page 295).
= All vehicles: change the wheel (  page 357).
Notes on MOExtended tyres (run-Oat tyres)
&WARNING Risk of accident when driving in
limp-home mode
Driving in emergency mode impairs the han- dling characteristics of the vehicle.
Do not exceed the permissible maximumspeed of the MOExtended tyres.Avoid any abrupt steering and drivingmanoeuvres as well as driving over
obstacles (kerbs, pot holes, oM-road).
This applies, in particular, to a loaded
vehicle.Stop driving in the emergency mode if
you notice:
= banging noise

=vehicle vibration
= smoke which smells like rubber
= continuous ESP n
intervention
= cracks in the tyre sidewallsAser driving in emergency mode, have
the rims checked by a qualiNed specialist
workshop with regard to their further
use.The defective tyre must be replaced in
every case.
With MOExtended tyres (run-Oat tyres), you can
continue to drive your vehicle even if there is a
total loss of pressure in one or more tyres. How-
ever, the tyre aMected must not show any clearly
visible damage.
You can recognise MOExtended tyres by the
MOExtended marking which appears on the side wall of the tyre.
Vehicles with tyre pressure monitoring system:
MOExtended tyres may only be used in conjunc-
tion with an activated tyre pressure monitoring system.
If a pressure loss warning message appears in thedriver's display, proceed as follows:
= Check the tyre for damage.
= If driving on, observe the following notes.
Driving distance possible in emergency mode

The driving distance possible in emergency mode
may vary depending on the driving style. Observe the maximum permissible speed of 80 km/h.
If a tyre has gone Oat and cannot be replaced with
an MOExtended tyre, you can use a standard tyre
as a temporary measure.
TIREFIT kit storage location
In the as-delivered state, TIREFIT kit 1 is located
on the les-hand side of the load compartment.
Depending on the vehicle's equipment, placing it under the load compartment Ooor is also possible.

tyre inOation compressor weighs as follows:

The tyre inOation compressor is maintenance-
free. If there is a malfunction, please contact
a qualiNed specialist workshop.
Using the TIREFIT kit
Requirements:
= Tyre sealant bottle
= TIREFIT sticker
= Tyre inOation compressor
=
Gloves (depending on the vehicle equipment)
TIREFIT kit storage location: (  page 331)
You can use TIREFIT tyre sealant to seal perfora-
tion damage of up to 4 mm, particularly those in
the tyre contact surface. You can use TIREFIT in
outside temperatures down to -20 °C.
&WARNING Risk of accident when using
tyre sealant
The tyre sealant may be unable to seal the
tyre properly, especially in the following cases:
=there are cuts or punctures in the tyre
larger than damage previously mentioned.
=
the wheel rim is damaged.
= you have driven at very low tyre pressures
or on a Oat tyre.
Do not drive on.Consult a qualiNed specialist workshop.&WARNING Risk of injury and poisoning
from tyre sealant
Tyre sealant is hazardous to health and causes
irritation. Do not allow it to come into contact
with your skin, eyes or clothing, and do not
swallow it. Do not inhale any vapours. Keep the tyre sealant away from children.
Observe the following if you come into contact
with the tyre sealant:
Rinse oM the tyre sealant from your skin
using water immediately.If tyre sealant gets into your eyes, thor-
oughly rinse them using clean water immediately.If tyre sealant has been swallowed, thor-oughly rinse out your mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Do not induce
vomiting and seek medical attention immediately.Change out of clothing which has come
into contact with tyre sealant immedi-
ately.If an allergic reaction occurs, seek medi-
cal attention immediately.*NOTE Overheating due to the tyre inOation
compressor running too longDo not run the tyre inOation compressor
for longer than ten minutes without inter- ruption.
Comply with the manufacturer's safety notes on
the sticker on the tyre inOation compressor.

Have the tyre sealant bottle replaced in a qualiNed
specialist workshop every Nve years.Do not remove any foreign objects which have
entered the tyre.APx part 1 of the TIREFIT sticker to the
instrument cluster within the driver's Neld of
vision.APx part 2 of the TIREFIT sticker near the
valve on the wheel with the defective tyre.Pull plug 4 with the cable and hose 5 out
of the tyre inOation compressor housing.Push the plug of hose 5 into Oange 6 of
tyre sealant bottle 1 until the plug engages.Place tyre sealant bottle 1 head downwards
into recess 2 of the tyre inOation compres-
sor.Remove the cap from valve 7 on the faulty
tyre.Screw Nlling hose 8 onto valve 7.Insert plug 4 into a 12 V socket in your vehi-
cle.Switch on the ignition.Press on and oM switch 3 on the tyre inOa-
tion compressor.
The tyre inOation compressor is switched on.
The tyre is inOated. First, tyre sealant is pum-
ped into the tyre. The pressure may brieOy rise
to approximately 500 kPa (5 bar/73 psi).Breakdown assistance333

Do not switch oM the tyre inOation compressor
during this phase!Let the tyre inOation compressor run for a
maximum of ten minutes. The tyre should then have attained a tyre pres-
sure of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi).
If tyre sealant leaks out, make sure you clean the
aMected area as quickly as possible. It is prefera-
ble to use clean water.
If you get tyre sealant on your clothing, have it cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethy- lene.
If, aser ten minutes, a tyre pressure of 200 kPa
(2.0 bar/29 psi) has not been attained:
Switch oM the tyre inOation compressor.Unscrew the Nlling hose from the valve of the
defective tyre.
Please note that tyre sealant may leak out when
unscrewing the Nlling hose.
Very slowly drive forwards or reverse approx-
imately 10 m.Pump up the tyre again.
Aser a maximum of ten minutes the tyre pres-
sure must be at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/
29 psi).&WARNING Risk of accident due to the
speciNed tyre pressure not being attained
If the minimum tyre pressure is not reached
aser the speciNed time, the tyre is too badly
damaged. The tyre sealant cannot repair the
tyre in this instance.
The braking and driving characteristics may be greatly impaired.
Do not continue driving.Consult a qualiNed specialist workshop.
If, aser ten minutes, a tyre pressure of 200 kPa
(2.0 bar/29 psi) has been attained:
&WARNING Risk of accident from driving
with sealed tyres
A tyre temporarily sealed with tyre sealant
impairs the handling characteristics and is not
suitable for higher speeds.
Adapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully.Do not exceed the maximum speed limit with a tyre that has been repaired using
tyre sealant.Observe the maximum permissible speed for a
tyre sealed with tyre sealant 80 km/h.APx the upper section of the TIREFIT sticker
to the instrument cluster in a location where it
will be easily seen by the driver.*NOTE Staining from leaking tyre sealant
Aser use, excess tyre sealant may leak out
from the Nlling hose.
Therefore, place the Nlling hose in the
plastic bag that contained the TIREFIT
kit.+ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental
pollution caused by environmentally irre-
sponsible disposal
Tyre sealant contains pollutants.
