Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus cannot take into
account road, weather or traPc conditions.
Detection may be restricted in the following
cases:
= In poor visibility, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snow
= If there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is only an aid. You are responsible for adjusting the vehicle's lighting to the prevailing light, visibility and traPc condi-
tions.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus automatically
switches between the following types of light:
= Low beam
= Partial high beam
= High beam
= ULTRA RANGE Highbeam
ULTRA RANGE Highbeam increases the bright-
ness of the cone of light to the legally permitted
maximum.
Partial high beam does not include other road
users in the high beam area. It does not dazzle them but enables full high beam illumination for
the driver apart from the excluded vehicles.
At speeds below 25 km/h or when there is suP-
cient street lighting:
= The partial high beam and the high beam will
be switched oM automatically.
At speeds greater than 30 km/h: = If no other road users are detected, the high
beam will switch on automatically.
= If other road users are detected, the partial
high beam will switch on automatically.
At speeds above 40 km/h:
= If no other road users are detected on a
straight road, ULTRA RANGE Highbeam will be
switched on automatically.
= If other road users are detected, the partial
high beam will switch on automatically.Light and sight135

=If highly reOective signs are detected, ULTRA
RANGE Highbeam will be switched oM auto-
matically.%The system's optical sensor is located behind the windscreen near the overhead control
panel.

q Switching Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus
on/oM
Switching on
Turn the light switch to the 0058 position.Switch on the high beam using the combina-
tion switch.
If Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is activated,
the 00CE indicator lamp will light up on the
driver's display. When partial high beam or
high beam is active, the corresponding blue
indicator lamp will also light up.
Switching oM
Switch oM the high beam using the combina-
tion switch.Setting low beam

Select Right-side traffic , Left-side traffic or
Automatic .
Setting the exterior lighting switch-oM delay time
Requirements:
= The light switch is in the 0058 position.

Set the switch-oM delay time.
When the vehicle's engine is switched oM, the
exterior lighting will be activated for the set
time.Activating/deactivating the locator lighting
Requirements: = The light switch is in the 0058 position.

Activate or deactivate Locator lighting.
When the function is activated, the exterior light-
ing will light up for 40 seconds aser the vehicle is
unlocked. When you start the vehicle, the locator lighting is switched oM and automatic driving
lights are activated.

Setting the colour
Select Colour.Select Monochrome or Multi-colour .Set the desired colour or colour combination.
Adjusting the brightness
Select Brightness .Adjust the brightness.%Depending on the ambient light conditions,
the ambient lighting will automatically switch
between day and night modes.
Activating the brightness for zones
Select Brightness .Switch oM Link zones .
The Direct , Indirect and Accent zones can be
set separately.
Activating eMects
&WARNING Risk of an accident despite
activated eMects of ambient lighting and
active ambient lighting
To use the Warning Assistance eMects, the
respective functions must be activated in the
driver assist menu.

Operating feedback eMects
= Climate : If changes are made to the tempera-
ture setting in the vehicle, the colour of the ambient lighting will change brieOy.
Warning assistance eMects
= Warning when exiting : If an object is detected
in the blind spot while you are getting out of the vehicle, the ambient lighting in the aMec-
ted door will Oash red.

Greeting
= When you get into the vehicle, a special colour
animation will play.
Multi-colour animat. = The chosen colour combination will change at
predeNned intervals.

The 00C5 symbol will appear on the instru-
ment cluster when the rear window wiper is
switched on.
Replacing the windscreen wiper blades
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
windscreen wipers are switched on while
wiper blades are being replaced
If the windscreen wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you can be trapped by the wiper arm.
Always switch oM the windscreen wipers
and ignition before changing the wiper
blades.
Moving the wiper arms into the replacement posi-
tion
Switch the ignition on and then oM again
immediately.Light and sight139

Within around 15 seconds, press and hold the
00D4 button on the combination switch for
approximately three seconds (  page 138).
The wiper arms will move into the replacement
position.
Removing the wiper blades
Fold the wiper arms away from the wind-
screen.Hold the wiper arm with one hand. With the
other hand, turn the wiper blade away from
the wiper arm in the direction of arrow 1 as
far as it will go.Press release knob 2.Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm in
the direction of arrow 3.
Fitting the wiper blades
Push the new wiper blade onto the wiper arm
in the direction of arrow 1 until release knob
2 engages.Make sure that the wiper blade is seated cor-
rectly.Fold the wiper arms back onto the wind- screen.Switch on the ignition.Press the 00D4 button on the combination
switch.
The wiper arms will return to the original posi-
tion.Switch the ignition oM.
Maintenance display
There is a maintenance display at the tip of the newly mounted wiper blade.

Remove protective Nlm 1 from the mainte-
nance display.
When the colour of the maintenance display
changes from black to yellow, the wiper blades
should be replaced.
Replacing the rear window wiper blade&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
windscreen wipers are switched on while
wiper blades are being replaced
If the windscreen wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you can be trapped by the wiper arm.
Always switch oM the windscreen wipers
and ignition before changing the wiper
blades.
Removing the wiper blade
switch the ignition oM.Fold wiper arm 2 away from the rear window
until it engages in the replacement position.Unclip wiper blade 1 from wiper arm 2 and
remove it in the direction of arrow 3.Light and sight141

Fitting the wiper bladePosition wiper blade 1 with both lugs 3 on
holder 2 on the wiper arm.Push wiper blade 1 in the direction of arrow
4 until it engages in holder 2.Make sure that wiper blade 1 is seated cor-
rectly.Fold the wiper arm from the replacement posi-
tion back onto the rear window.

Operating the outside mirrors
&WARNING Risk of injury if vehicle settings
are adjusted while the vehicle is in motion
You could lose control of the vehicle in partic-
ular in the following situations:
= If you adjust the driver's seat, the head
restraints, the steering wheel or the mirror while the vehicle is in motion.
= If you fasten your seat belt while the vehi-
cle is in motion.
Before starting the engine: adjust the
driver's seat, head restraints, steering
wheel and mirror in particular and fasten
your seat belt.&WARNING Risk of accident due to mis-
judgement of distance when using the
outside mirror
The outside mirrors reOect objects on a
smaller scale. The objects in view are in fact
closer than they appear.
Therefore, always look over your shoul-
der in order to ensure that you are aware
of the actual distance between you and
