PETROL ENGINES
These allow you access to check the level of the various fluids and to replace certain components.

CHECKING LEVELS
Check all of these levels regularly and top them up if necessary, unless other-wise indicated.
If a level drops significantly, have the corresponding circuit checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Brake fluid levelTo avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew the cap by two turns to allow the pres-sure to drop. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level.
Oil level
The reading will only be correct if the vehicle is on level ground and the engine has been off for more than 15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when the ignition is switched on using the oil level indicator on the instrument panel, or using the dipstick.
Between two oil changes, the consump-tion should not exceed 0.5 litre per 600 miles (1,000 km).
The brake fluid level should be close to the "MAX" mark. If it is not, check the brake pad wear.
Draining the circuit
Refer to the servicing booklet for details of the interval for this operation.
Coolant level
The coolant level should be close to the "MAX" mark but should never exceed it.
When the engine is warm, the tempera-ture of the coolant is regulated by the fan. This can operate with the ignition off.
On vehicles which are fitted with a par-ticle emission filter, the fan may oper-ate after the vehicle has been switched off, even if the engine is cold.
In addition, as the cooling system is pressurised, wait at least one hour after switching off the engine before carrying out any work.
Wash-wipe and headlamp wash* fluid
The minimum level of this fluid is indicated by an audible sig-nal and a message on the multi-function display.
Top up the level when you stop the ve-hicle.

Draining the engine
Refer to the servicing booklet for details of the interval for this operation.
In order to maintain the relia-bility of the engine and emission control system, the use of additives in the en-gine oil is prohibited.
Oil specification
The oil must correspond to your engine and conform to the manufacturer’s rec-ommendations.
Fluid specification
The brake fluid must conform to the manufacturer’s recommendations and fulfil the DOT4 standards.
Draining the circuit
The coolant does not have to be changed.
Fluid specification

Diesel additive level (Diesel with particle emission filter)
The minimum level of this additive is in-dicated by lighting of the service warn-ing light, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunc-tion display.
Used products
CHECKS
Unless otherwise indicated, check these components in accordance with the servicing booklet and in relation to your engine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.
However, check that the ter-minals are clean and correctly tightened, particularly in sum-mer and winter.
When carrying out work on the battery, refer to the "Practical information" sec-tion for details of the precautions to be taken before disconnecting the battery and following its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Refer to the servicing booklet for details of the replacement intervals for these compo-nents.
Depending on the environ-ment (dusty atmosphere...) and the use of the vehicle (city driving...), replace them twice as often if necessary (re-fer to the "Engines" paragraph).
A clogged passenger compartment filter may have an adverse effect on the per-formance of the air conditioning system and generate undesirable odours.
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
It is imperative that the maintenance of the particle emission filter is carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Oil filter
Replace the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.
Refer to the servicing booklet for details of the replacement interval for this component.
Topping up
It is imperative that this additive is topped up by a PEUGEOT dealer with-out delay.

Automatic gearbox

Brake disc drum wear status
For any information relating to checking of the brake disc and/or drum wear status, con-tact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox does not re-quire any maintenance (no oil change).
Refer to the servicing booklet for details of the level checking intervals for this component.
Brake pads
Brake wear depends on the style of driving, particularly in the case of vehicles used in town, over short distances. It may be necessary to have the condition of the brakes checked, even between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak on the circuit, a drop in the brake fluid level indicates that the brake pads are worn.
Handbrake
If the handbrake travel is too long or if you notice a loss of effectiveness of this sys-tem, the handbrake must be adjusted, even between two services.
This system must be checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

CHANGING A WHEEL
Procedure for changing a faulty wheel for the spare wheel using the tools provided with the vehicle.
The tools are installed in the boot under the floor.
To gain access to them:
 open the boot, raise the floor,
 secure it by hooking the cord(s) on the hook(s) on the rear shelf sup-port,
 remove the box containing the tools.
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel fixing bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. "Bolt cover" tool.
Permits removal of the bolt pro-tectors (covers) on alloy wheels.
4. Socket for the anti-theft bolts (located in the glove box).
Permits adaptation of the wheel-brace to the special "anti-theft" bolts.

Access to the spare wheel (Saloon)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot under the floor.
According to model, the spare wheel may be steel or of the "space saving" type.
To gain access to it, refer to the para-graph "Access to the tools" on the pre-vious page.
Taking out the wheel
 Unscrew the yellow central bolt.
 Raise the spare wheel towards you from the rear.
 Take the wheel out of the boot.
Putting the wheel back in place
 Put the wheel back in its housing.
 Unscrew the yellow central bolt by a few turns then put it in place in the centre of the wheel.
 Tighten fully until the central bolt clicks to retain the wheel correctly.
 Put the box back in place in the centre of the wheel.
 Put the boot floor back in place.
