(8) Oil or water should not be put on the front seat outer belt and the front seat outer belt should be
cleaned with the appropriate detergents.
(i) AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
(1) Never reuse the airbag sensor assembly involved in a collision where the SRS has deployed.
(2) The connectors to the airbag sensor assembly should be connected or disconnected with the
sensor mounted on the floor. If the connectors are connected or disconnected while the airbag
sensor assembly is not mounted to the floor, it could cause an undesired ignition of the supple-
mental restraint system.
(3) Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the ºLOCKº
position and the negative (±) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery, even if only loosen-
ing the set bolts of the airbag sensor assembly.
(j) WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(1) The SRS wire harness is integrated with the instrument panel wire harness assembly. All connec-
tors in the system are a standard yellow color. If the SRS wire harness becomes disconnected
or the connector becomes broken due to an accident, etc., repair or replace it.
3. ELECTRONIC CONTROL
(a) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF BATTERY TERMI-
NAL
(1) Before performing electronic work, disconnect the
battery negative (±) terminal cable beforehand in
order to prevent it from shorting and burning out.
(2) When disconnecting and installing the terminal
cable, turn the ignition switch and lighting switch
OFF, and loosen the terminal nut completely. Per-
form these operations without twisting or prying the
terminal.
(3) When the battery terminal cable is removed, the
memories of the clock, radio, DTCs, etc. are erased.
So before removing it, check them and make a note
of their settings.
(4) When the battery negative (±) terminal cable is dis-
connected, memories of various systems are
erased. Therefore, refer to the PRE±CHECK for
each system to make sure whether or not the sys-
tem needs to be initialized after the battery negative

HINT:
When the SRS warning light remains on and the DTC is the normal code, a voltage source drop is sus-
pected.
This malfunction is not stored in memory by the airbag sensor assy center and if the power source
voltage returns to normal, the SRS warning light will automatically go off.
If a code not listed on the displayed chart, the airbag sensor assy center may be failed.
In the case of any malfunction concerning any open circuit, short to ground, or short to B+ due to any
squib, another malfunction code may not be detected. In this case, repair the malfunction currently
indicated and then perform malfunction diagnosis again. Another malfunction code may then be de-
tected.

PRE±CHECK
1.DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
(a)Check the DLC3. (1)The vehicle's ECM conforms to ISO 9141±2 forcommunication protocol. The terminal arrangement
of the DLC3 complies with ISO 15031±3 and meets
the ISO 9141±2 format.
Terminal No.Connection/Voltage or ResistanceCondition

HINT:
If the display shows UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE
when you connect the cable of the hand±held tester to the
DLC3, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and operate
the hand±held tester, there is a problem either on the vehicle
side or tool side.
If communication is normal when the tool is connected to
another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 on the original vehicle.
If communication is still not possible when the tool is con-
nected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the
tool itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the
tool's instruction manual.
2.SRS WARNING LIGHT CHECK
(a)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and check that the SRS warning light comes on.
(b)Check that the SRS warning light goes off after approx.
6 seconds.
HINT:
When the ignition switch is ON position and the SRS
warning light remains on or flashes, the airbag sensor
assy center detects a malfunction code.
When the SRS warning light comes on even when the
ignition switch is in the LOCK position, trouble in the pow-
er source or combination meter assy is suspected. Pro-
ceed to ºSRS warning light circuit malfunction (Always
lights up, when ignition switch is LOCK position)º on page
05±1386.
When the ignition switch is turned from the LOCK to ON
position, the SRS warning light does not come on. Pro-
ceed to ºSRS warning light circuit malfunction (Does not
light up, when ignition switch is turned ON)º on page
05±1389.

3.DTC CHECK (USING SST CHECK WIRE)
(a)Output the DTCs (Present trouble code).
(1)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait
for approx. 60 seconds.
(2)Using SST, connect the TC and CG of the DLC3.
SST09843±18040
NOTICE:
Pay attention to the terminal connecting position to avoid
a malfunction.
(b)Output the DTCs (Past trouble code).
(1)Using SST, connect the TC and CG of the DLC3.
SST09843±18040
NOTICE:
Pay attention to the terminal connecting position to avoid
a malfunction. (2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait
for approx. 60 seconds.
(c)Read the DTCs. (1)Read the DTC by counting the blinking times. Forexample, the blinking patterns for normal code,
code 11 and code 31 are shown in the illustration.
Normal code indication (w/o past trouble
code)
The light blinks twice per second.
Normal code indication (w/ past trouble code)
When the past trouble code is stored in the
airbag sensor assy center, the blinks only
once a second.
Malfunction code indication
The first blinking indicates the first DTC. Se-
cond blinking occurs after 1.5±second of
pause.
If there are 2 or more codes, there will be a 2.5±second pause
between each code. After all codes are shown, there will be a
4.0±second pause, and they will all be repeated.
HINT:
If 2 or more malfunctions are found, the indication starts
from the smaller numbered code.
If DTCs are indicated without a connection of the termi-
nals, proceed to the ºTC terminal circuitº on page
05±1391.
(d) Clear the DTCs. (1) When the ignition switch is turned off, the DTCs are cleared.
HINT:
Depending on the DTC, the code might not be cleared by turning off the ignition switch. In this case, proceed
to the next step.

SRS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (DOES NOT LIGHT
UP, WHEN IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED TO ON)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The SRS warning light is located on the combination meter assy.
When the SRS is normal, the SRS warning light comes on for approx. 6 seconds after the ignition switch
is turned from the LOCK position to the ON position, and then it turns off automatically.
If there is a malfunction in the SRS, the SRS warning light comes on to inform a trouble to the driver.
When between terminal TC and terminal CG of the DLC3 are connected, the DTC is displayed by blinking
the SRS warning light.

SOURCE VOLTAGE DROP
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The SRS is equipped with a voltage±increase circuit (DC±DC converter) in the airbag sensor assy center
in case the source voltage drops.
When the battery voltage drops, the voltage±increase circuit (DC±DC converter) functions to increase the
voltage of the SRS to normal voltage.
A malfunction in this circuit is displayed by different form from the other code. The source voltage drop is
indicated when the SRS warning light comes on without showing any DTCs.
Malfunction in this circuit is not recorded in the airbag sensor assy center. The SRS warning light automatical-
ly goes off when the source voltage returns to normal.
