Precautions for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) “AIR BAG” and “SEAT
BELT PRE-TENSIONER”

The Supplemental Restraint System such as “AIR BAG” and “SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER”, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of
this Service Manual.
WARNING:
To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death
in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be per-
formed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to per-
sonal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air
Bag Module, see the SRS section.
Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or
harness connectors.
Precautions Necessary for Steering Wheel Rotation After Battery DisconnectBJS000F2
NOTE:
This Procedure is applied only to models with Intelligent Key system and NATS (NISSAN ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM).
Remove and install all control units after disconnecting both battery cables with the ignition knob in the
″LOCK″ position.
Always use CONSULT-II to perform self-diagnosis as a part of each function inspection after finishing
work. If DTC is detected, perform trouble diagnosis according to self-diagnostic results.
For models equipped with the Intelligent Key system and NATS, an electrically controlled steering lock mech-
anism is adopted on the key cylinder.
For this reason, if the battery is disconnected or if the battery is discharged, the steering wheel will lock and
steering wheel rotation will become impossible.
If steering wheel rotation is required when battery power is interrupted, follow the procedure below before
starting the repair operation.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Connect both battery cables.
NOTE:
Supply power using jumper cables if battery is discharged.
2. Use the Intelligent Key or mechanical key to turn the ignition switch to the ″ACC″ position. At this time, the
steering lock will be released.
3. Disconnect both battery cables. The steering lock will remain released and the steering wheel can be
rotated.
4. Perform the necessary repair operation.
5. When the repair work is completed, return the ignition switch to the ″LOCK″ position before connecting
the battery cables. (At this time, the steering lock mechanism will engage.)
6. Perform a self-diagnosis check of all control units using CONSULT-II.
Precautions for Working with HFC-134a (R-134a)BJS000F4
CAUTION:
CFC-12 (R-12) refrigerant and HFC-134a (R-134a) refrigerant are not compatible. These refrigerants
must never be mixed, even in the smallest amounts. If the refrigerants are mixed and compressor
malfunction is likely occur.
Use only specified lubricant for the HFC-134a (R-134a) A/C system and HFC-134a (R-134a) compo-
nents. If lubricant other than that specified is used, compressor malfunction is likely to occur.
The specified HFC-134a (R-134a) lubricant rapidly absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. The fol-
lowing handling precautions must be observed:

Removal and InstallationBIS000VT
REMOVAL
1. Remove front bumper. Refer to EI-14, "FRONT BUMPER" .
2. Remove head lamp (LH/RH). Refer to LT- 3 6 , "
Removal and Installation" (Xenon type), LT- 6 2 , "Removal
and Installation" (Conventional type)
3. Remove air duct clips, and then remove air duct.
4. Remove crash zone sensor. Refer to SRS-44, "
CRASH ZONE SENSOR" .
5. Remove hood lock assembly, and then hood lock cable. Refer to BL-16, "
Removal and Installation of
Hood Lock Control" .
6. Remove ambient sensor. Refer to ATC-109, "
AMBIENT SENSOR" .
7. Remove hydraulic piping clips and tabs. Refer to PS-39, "
HYDRAULIC LINE" .
8. Remove radiator core support lower harness clips and mounting bolts, and then remove radiator core sup-
port lower. Remove mounting bolts with power tool.
9. Disconnect horn connectors and remove harness clips.
10. Remove each harness clip and nuts of radiator core support. Remove nuts with power tool.
11. Remove condenser mounting bracket bolts.

Precautions for Brake SystemBFS000BC
Clean dust on front brake and rear brake with a vacuum dust collector. Do not blow with compressed air.
Recommended fluid is brake fluid “DOT 3 or DOT 4”. Refer to MA-14, "Fluids and Lubricants" .
Do not reuse drained brake fluid.
Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas; it may cause paint damage. If brake fluid is splashed
on painted surfaces of body, immediately wipe it off and them wash it away with water immediately.
To clean or wash all parts of master cylinder, disc brake caliper, use clean brake fluid.
Do not use mineral oils such as gasoline or kerosene. They will ruin rubber parts of the hydraulic system.
Use a flare nut torque wrench when installing brake tube.
When installing brake tube, be sure to check torque.
Before working, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect electri-
cal connector of ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) or
battery cables.
Burnish the brake contact surfaces after refinishing or replacing
rotors, after replacing pads, or if a soft pedal occurs at very low
mileage. Refer to BR-32, "
BRAKE BURNISHING PROCE-
DURE" (Front disc brake), BR-39, "BRAKE BURNISHING
PROCEDURE" (Rear disc brake).
WARNING:
Clean brake pads and shoes with a waste cloth, then wipe with a dust collector.

Checking Brake Fluid LevelBFS000BI
Make sure that a brake fluid level in reservoir tank is within the
standard (between MAX and MIN lines).
Visually check around reservoir tank for fluid leakage.
If fluid level is excessively low, check brake system for leakage.
Release parking brake pedal and see if brake warning lamp
goes off. If not, check brake system for fluid leakage.
Drain and RefillBFS000BJ
CAUTION:
Refill with new brake fluid “DOT 3 or DOT 4”.
Do not reuse drained brake fluid.
Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas; it way cause paint damage. If brake fluid is

Before working, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect electrical connector of ABS actuator and
electric unit (control unit) or battery cables.
1. Connect a vinyl tube to bleed valve.
2. Depress brake pedal, loosen bleed valve, and gradually remove
brake fluid.
3. Clean inside of reservoir tank, and refill with new brake fluid.
4. Rest foot on brake pedal. Loosen bleed valve. Slowly depress
brake pedal until it stops. Tighten bleed valve. Release brake
pedal. Repeat this process a few time, them pause to and new
brake fluid to master cylinder. Continue until new brake fluid
flows out.
5. Bleed air. Refer to BR-10, "

CAUTION:
Carefully monitor brake fluid level in reservoir tank during
bleeding operation.
Refill with new brake fluid “DOT 3 or DOT 4”. Make sure it is
at least half way at all times while bleeding air out of sys-
tem.
Place a container under master cylinder not to spill brake
fluid.
Turn ignition switch to the OFF and disconnect connector
for ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) or battery
cable from negative terminal before working.
1. Connect a vinyl tube to rear right brake caliper bleed valve.
2. Fully depress brake pedal 4 or 5 times.
3. With brake pedal depressed, loosen bleed valve to bleed air in
brake line, and then tighten it immediately.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all of the air is out of the brake line.
5. Tighten bleed valve to the specified torque. Refer to front disc
brake: BR-26, "
Components" , rear disc brake: BR-33, "Compo-
nents" .
6. From step 1 to 5 above, with master cylinder reservoir tank filled
at least half way, bleed air from brake hydraulic line bleed valves
in the following order:
Rear right brake→Front left brake→Rear left brake→Front right brake

MODELS WITHOUT VDC
CAUTION:
Remove reservoir tank only when absolutely necessary.
Disassembly (Piston Assembly)
1. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver as shown in the figure, lift up
tabs on stopper cap and remove it from master cylinder.
NOTE:
Remove stopper cap while holding it because primary piston
assembly in master cylinder may pop out.
2. Carefully pull primary piston assembly straight out to prevent
cylinder inner wall from being damaged.
3. Tap flange using a soft block, such as wood, and carefully pull
secondary piston assembly straight out to prevent cylinder body
inner wall from being damaged.
Inspection After Disassembly (Piston Assembly)
Cylinder body
Check a inner wall of cylinder for damage, abrasions, corrosion, and pinholes. Replace cylinder body if
detected.
Assembly (Piston Assembly)
CAUTION:
Do not use mineral oils such as kerosene, gasoline during the cleaning and assembly process.
Make sure there is no foreign matter such as dirt or dust attached to inner cylinder walls, piston,
or cap seal, and use care to avoid damaging parts with the assembly tools.
Do not drop parts. If a part is dropped, do not use it.
1. Apply brake fluid to cylinder inner wall, piston cups and contact
surfaces between piston assemblies. Then insert secondary pis-
ton assembly and primary piston assembly into cylinder body in
this order.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse primary and secondary piston assemblies.
Be sure to replace piston assemblies without disassem-
bling new inner kit.
Pay attention to the orientation of piston cup, and insert
straight to prevent cup seal from being caught by cylin-
der inner wall.

2. Holding down piston with stopper cap, push stopper cap tabs so
they are firmly into cylinder grooves, then install stopper cap.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse stopper cap.
Disassembly (Reservoir Tank)
1. Secure master cylinder assembly into a vise with the chamfered
pin insert hole on cylinder body facing upward.
CAUTION:
When setting master cylinder assembly with vise, be sure
not to over-tighten.
When setting with vise use copper plates or cloth to pro-
tect the flange.
2. Using a pin punch [commercial service tool: diameter approxi-
mately 4 mm (0.16 in)], remove mounting pins on reservoir tank.
3. Remove master cylinder assembly from vise.
4. Remove reservoir tank and grommet from cylinder body.
Assembly (Reservoir Tank)
1. Apply brake fluid to grommet, and then install it into cylinder body after installing grommet to reservoir
tank.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse reservoir tank and grommet.
2. Secure master cylinder assembly into vise with the chamfered
pin insert hole on cylinder body facing upward.
CAUTION:
When setting master cylinder assembly in vise, be sure
not to over-tighten.
When setting in vise use copper plates or cloth to protect
the flange.
