(e) Place matchmarks on the transmission companion flange
and propeller shaft flanges.
(f) Remove the 4 washers and nuts.
(g) Remove the 2 center support bearing set bolts and the
adjusting washers.
HINT: Some vehicles are not equipped with an adjusting
washer.
NOTICE: When removing the set bolts, support the cen-
ter support bearing by hand so that the transmission and
intermediate shaft, and propeller shaft and differential,
remain in a straight line.
(h) Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission.
(i) Push the rear propeller shaft straight forward to compress the
propeller shaft and pull out the propeller shaft from the
centering pin of the differential.
NOTICE: Press the propeller shaft straight ahead to keep
the transmission and intermediate shaft aligned straight.
(j) Pull the propeller shaft out toward the vehicle's rear.
NOTICE: The intermediate shaft and propeller shaft
should not be separated.
2JZ±GE:
(a) Remove the 2 center support bearing set bolts and the
adjusting washers.
HINT: Production vehicles are not equipped with adjusting
washers.
NOTICE: When removing the set bolts, support the cen-
ter support bearing by hand so that the transmission and
intermediate shaft, and propeller shaft and differential,
remain in a straight line.
(b) Place the matchmarks on the differential companion flange
and flexible coupling.
(c) Remove the 3 bolts inserted in the differential companion
flange.
NOTICE: The bolts inserted in the propeller shaft com-
panion flange should not be removed. PR±8

FUEL PUMP
ON±VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION
(a) Using SST, connect terminals +B and FP of the DLC 1.
SST 09843±18020
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
NOTICE: Do not start the engine.
(c) Check that there is pressure in the fuel inlet hose from the fuel
filter.
HINT: If there is fuel pressure, you will hear the sound of fuel
flowing.
If there is no pressure, check the following parts:
wFuse
wEFI main relay
wFuel pump
wECM
wWiring connections
(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(e) Remove the SST from the DLC1.
SST 09843±18020
2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
(a) Check the battery voltage is above 12 V.
(b) Disconnect the negative (±) terminals cable from the battery.
(c) Remove the 2 nuts, and disconnect the No.2 vacuum pipe
from the air intake chamber and intake manifold.
(d) Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, disconnect the fuel
inlet pipe from the delivery pipe.
CAUTION:
Put a shop towel under the delivery pipe.
Slowly loosen the union bolt.
(e) Install the fuel inlet pipe and SST (pressure gauge) to the
delivery pipe with the 3 gaskets and SST (union bolt).
SST 09268±45012
Torque: 42 NVm (420 kgfVcm, 30 ftVlbf)
(f) Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
(g) Using SST, connect terminals +B and FP of the DLC 1.

(1) Throttle position sensor connector
(2) IAC valve connector
(3) VSV connector for EGR
(4) PCV hose from intake air connector
(5) Water bypass hose (from No.2 water bypass pipe) from
throttle body
(6) California only:
Air hose from IAC valve
(b) Remove the nut holding the VSV for the ACIS to the air intake
chamber.
(c) Remove the 4 bolts and 2 nuts holding the intake air
connector to the air intake chamber.
(d) Disconnect these hoses, and remove the throttle body, intake
air connector assembly and gasket.
(1) 3 vacuum hoses (from No.2 vacuum pipe) from No.1
vacuum pipe
(2) Water bypass hose (from water outlet) from throttle body
(3) Vacuum hose (from actuator for ACIS) from No.1 vacu-
um pipe
10. REMOVE AIR INTAKE CHAMBER STAYS
(a) Remove the bolt, nut and No.1 stay.
(b) Remove the bolt, nut and No.2 stay.
11. Except California:
DISCONNECT VACUUM SENSING HOSE FROM FUEL
PRESSURE REGULATOR
12. DISCONNECT FUEL INLET PIPE FROM DELIVERY PIPE
Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the in-
let pipe from the delivery pipe.
