Re quirements:
R The engine is switched off.
When you activate standby mode, the energy loss
is minimized if theve hicle is par kedfo r an exten‐
ded pe riod.
St andby mode has thefo llowing characteristics:
R The star ter battery is pr otected.
R The maximum non-operational time is shown
inthe media displa y.
R The connection toonline services is inter rup‐
te d.
R The ATA (anti-theft alarm sy stem) is not avail‐
able.
R The interior motion sensor and tow- aw ay
alarm functions are not available.
If th efo llowing conditions are met, standby mode
can be activated or deactivated using the multi‐
media sy stem:
R The engine is switched off.
R The ignition is switched on.
If th e displa yed non-operational time of theve hi‐
cle is exceeded, there could be a loss of comfort
and thest ar ter battery can no longer be guara n‐
te ed toreliably start the engine. The
star ter battery must firs t be charge d in the
fo llowing situations:
R The non-operational time of theve hicle is to
be extended.
R The messa gethat the battery charge is not

rols the brake pressure in critical situa‐
tions:
R The wheels are pr evented from lo cking when
braking, e.g. during maximum full-s top brak‐
ing or when there is insuf ficient tire traction
R The steerability of theve hicle in term s of
ph ysical possibilities is ensured when braking
R ABS is active from speeds of appr ox. 3 mph
(5 km/h). On a slippery road sur face, ABS
inter venes even if you on lybrake gently.
Sy stem limits
If th ere is a malfunction and theye llow 0025 ABS
wa rning lamp lights up continuously in the instru‐
ment display af terst arting the engine, ABS may
be impaired or inoperative.
If ABS inter venes, you will feel a pulsing in the
brake pedal. The pulsating brake pedal may be an
indication of hazardous road conditions and func‐
tions as a reminder totake extra care while driv‐
ing.
If ABS in terv enes: keep the brake pedal firm ly
depressed until the braking situation has passed.

nctions of ASR (Acceleration Skid Control) ASR can neither
reduce therisk of an accident
nor override the la wsof ph ysics if the driver does
not pay attention when pulling away or accelerat‐
ing. ASR is only an aid. Alw ays adapt your driving
st yle to suit the pr evailing road and weather con‐
ditions.
If yo u activate or deactivate the all-wheel drive in
a ve hicle with this option, ASR will be deactivated
fo rth e duration of the activation/deactivation
process.
Ve hicles without steering wheel but tons: if
ASR is malfunctioning, the00E5 indicator lamp
lights up while the engine is running and the
engine output may be reduced (/ page 26).
ASR impr oves traction, i.e. the transfer of po wer
from the tires tothero ad sur face, for a sus tained
period and thereb y,also impr ovesth e driving sta‐
bility of theve hicle. If the drive wheels start to
spin, ASR brakes individual drive wheels and lim‐
its the engine torque. ASRthus significantly
assists you when pulling away and accelerating,
especially on wet or slippe ryroads.
If traction on thero ad sur face is not suf ficient,
eve n ASR will not allow youto pull away without
dif ficulty. The type of tires and totalwe ight of the
ve hicle as well as the gradient of thero ad also
play a crucial role.

ing, autonomous braking can be initiated in criti‐
cal situations.
If th ere are pedestrians and cyclists crossing: in
especially critical situations, Active Brake Assi st
can initiate au tonomous braking di rectl y.In this
case, the visual and acoustic warning occurs
simultaneously with the braking application.
If yo u apply the brake yourself in a critical situa‐
tion, or apply the brakes during autonomous
braking, situation-dependent braking assis tance
occu rs. The brake pressure increases up tomaxi‐

Cruise cont rol accelerates and brakes theve hicle
automatically in order tomaintain a pr eviously
st ored speed.
If yo u accelerate toove rtake, forex ample, the
st ored speed is not dele ted. If youre mo veyour
fo ot from the accelerator pedal af terove rtaking,
cruise control will resume speed regulation back
to thestored speed.
Cruise contro l is operated using the cor respond‐
ing steering wheel buttons. You can store any
ro ad speed abo ve15 mp h (20 km/h).
If yo ufa ilto adapt your driving style, cruise con‐
trol can neither reduce therisk of an accident nor
ove rride the la wsof ph ysics. It cannot take into
account road, weather or traf fic conditions.
Cruise control is only an aid. You are responsible
fo rth e dis tance totheve hicle in front, forve hicle
speed, braking in good time and forst ay ing in
yo ur lane.

The status of cruise control and thestored speed

Sy stem limitations
Cruise control may be unable tomaintain the
st ored speed on uphill gradients. The stored
speed is resumed when the gradient evens out.
On long and steep downhill gradients, you should
ch ange down toa lo werge ar in good time. Take
particular no teofthis when driving a laden vehi‐
cle. By doing so, you will make use of the
engine's braking ef fect. This relie vesth e load on
th e brake sy stem and pr events the brakes from
ove rheating and wearing tooqu ickl y.
Do not use cruise control in thefo llowing situa‐
tions:
R In traf fic situations whe refrequent speed
ch anges are requ ired, e.g. in heavy traf fic or
on winding roads.
R On slippe ryroads. Accele rating can cause the
drive wheels tolose traction and theve hicle
could then skid.
R Ifyo u are driving when visibility is poor.
Operating cruise cont rol &
WARNING Risk of accident due tostored
speed
If yo u call up thestored speed and this is
lo we rth an your cur rent speed, theve hicle
decelerates. #
