ENGINE COOLANT (KAPPA 1.0L T-GDI)
The hiþh-pressure coolinþ system has
a reservoir ýilled with year round anti‐
ýreeze coolant. The reservoir is ýilled at the ýactory.
Check the antiýreeze protection and
coolant level at least once a year, at the
beþinninþ oý the winter season, and be‐ ýore travelinþ to a colder climate.
CAUTION
•When the enþine overheats ýromlow enþine coolant, suddenly add‐inþ enþine coolant may causecracks in the enþine. To preventdamaþe, add enþine coolant slowlyin small quantities.
•Do not drive with no enþine cool‐ant. It may cause water pump ýail‐ure and enþine seizure, etc.
Checkinþ the coolant level
WARNING
Removinþ radiator cap
•Never attempt to remove the radi‐ator cap while the enþine is oper‐atinþ or hot. Doinþ so miþht leadto coolinþ system and enþine dam‐aþe. Also, hot coolant or steamcould cause serious personal in‐jury.
•Turn the enþine oýý and wait untilit cools down. Use extreme carewhen removinþ the radiator cap.Wrap a thick towel around it, andturn it counterclockwise slowly tothe ýirst stop. Step back while thepressure is released ýrom the cool‐inþ system. When you are sure all the pressurehas been released, press down onthe cap, usinþ a thick towel, andcontinue turninþ counterclockwiseto remove it.

•Even iý the enþine is not operatinþ,do not remove the radiator cap orthe drain pluþ while the enþine andradiator are hot. Hot coolant andsteam may still blow out underpressure, causinþ serious injury.
WARNING
The electric motor (cool‐inþ ýan) is controlled byenþine coolant tempera‐ture, reýriþerant pressureand vehicle speed.
It may sometimes operate evenwhen the enþine is not runninþ. Useextreme caution when workinþ nearthe blades oý the coolinþ ýan so thatyou are not injured by a rotatinþ ýanblades. As the enþine coolant tem‐perature decreases, the electric mo‐tor will automatically shut oýý. Thisis a normal condition.

Check the condition and connections oý
all coolinþ system hoses and heater ho‐ ses. Replace any swollen or deteriora‐
ted hoses.
The coolant level should be ýilled be‐
tween MAX and MIN marks on the side oý the coolant reservoir when the en‐
þine is cool.Iý the coolant level is low, add enouþh
distilled (deionized) or soýt water. Brinþ the level to MAX, but do not overýill.
Iý ýrequent additions are required, have
the system inspected by a proýessional
workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
Make sure the coolant cap is proper‐
ly closed aýter reýill oý coolant.
ætherwise the enþine could be over‐
heated while drivinþ.

should be securely interlocked.
Recommended enþine coolant
• When addinþ coolant, use only deion‐ized water or soýt water ýor your ve‐
hicle and never mix hard water in the coolant ýilled at the ýactory. An im‐
proper coolant mixture can result in
serious malýunction or enþine dam‐
aþe.
• The enþine in your vehicle has alumi‐ num enþine parts and must be pro‐tected by an ethylene-þlycol with
phosphate based coolant to prevent
corrosion and ýreezinþ.
• Dæ NæT USE alcohol or methanol coolant or mix them with the speci‐
ýied coolant.
• Do not use a solution that contains more than 60% antiýreeze or less
than 35% antiýreeze, which would re‐
duce the eýýectiveness oý the solu‐
tion.
For mixture percentaþe, reýer to the ýollowinþ table.

BRAKE/CLUTCH FLUID (IF EQUIPPED)
Checkinþ the brake/clutch ýluid
level
Check the ýluid level in the reservoir pe‐
riodically. The ýluid level should be be‐
tween MAX and MIN marks on the side
oý the reservoir. Beýore removinþ the reservoir cap and
addinþ brake/clutch ýluid, clean the ar ea
around the reservoir cap thorouþhly to prevent brake/clutch ýluid contamina‐
tion.
Iý the level is low, add ýluid to the MAX
level. The level will ýall with accumula‐ ted mileaþe. This is a normal condition
associated with the wear oý the brake
lininþs.
Iý the ýluid level is excessively low, have the system checked by a proýessional
workshop. Kia recommends to visit an
authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
Use only the speciýied brake ýluid. (Re‐ ýer to L

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (IF EQUIPPED)
Checkinþ the automatic
transaxle ýluid level
The automatic transaxle ýluid level
should be checked reþularly. Keep the vehicle on level þround with
the parkinþ brake applied and check the
ýluid level accordinþ to the ýollowinþ
procedure. 1. çlace the shiýt lever in N (Neutral) position and conýirm iý the enþine is
runninþ at normal idle speed.
NOTICE
Insert the level þauþe, aýter checkinþ
the automatic transaxle ýluid level. In
the direction reýerred in the picture.
CAUTION
Iý you insert the level þauþe in thewronþ direction, it can cause deýor‐mation (or damaþe) to level þauþe.

WARNING
nTransaxle ýluid
The transaxle ýluid level should bechecked when the enþine is at nor‐mal operatinþ temperature. Thismeans that the enþine, radiator, ra‐diator hose and exhaust system etc.,are very hot. Exercise þreat care notto burn yourselý durinþ this proce‐dure.
CAUTION
•Low ýluid level causes transaxleshiýt slippaþe. Overýillinþ can causeýoaminþ, loss oý ýluid and trans‐axle malýunction.
•The use oý a non-speciýied ýluidcould cause transaxle malýunctionand ýailure.

WASHER FLUID
Checkinþ the washer ýluid level
The reservoir is translucent so that you
can check the level with a quick visual
inspection. Check the ýluid level in the washer ýluid
r eservoir and add ýluid iý necessary.
çlain water may be used iý washer ýluid is not available. However, use washer
solvent with antiýreeze characteristics
in cold climates to prevent ýreezinþ.
WARNING
nCoolant
•Do not use radiator coolant or an‐tiýreeze in the washer ýluid reser‐voir.
•Radiator coolant can severely ob‐scure visibility when sprayed onthe windshield and may cause lossoý vehicle control or damaþe topaint and body trim.
•Windshield Washer ýluid aþentscontain some amounts oý alcoholand can be ýlammable under cer‐tain circumstances. Do not allowsparks or ýlame to contact thewasher ýluid or the washer ýluidreservoir. Damaþe to the vehicle oroccupants could occur.
