Important safety notes
Thes ensors ystemofs omedriving and driving
safety systems adjusts automaticall ywhile a
certai ndistance is being driven after the vehicle

effectiveness is not reachedu ntilthe end of this
teach-inp rocedure.
New and replaced brake pads and discs only
reach their optimum braking effect after several hundred kilometers of driving. Compensate for
thi sb yapplyin ggreate rforce to the brake pedal.
The first 1000 miles (150 0km)
Them orey ou look after the engine when it is

formance in the future.
RYo us houl dtherefore drive at varying vehicle
and engine speeds for the first 1,000 miles
(1,500 km).
RAvoi dheavy loads, e.g .driving at full throttle,

After 1,000 mile s(1,500 km), you can increase

You should also observe these notes on break-

ng in if the engine or parts of the drive train on

Always observe the maximu mpermissible
speed.
Axl edifferential transmission
(Mercedes-AMG vehicles)
Change the oil after abreaking-in period of
2,000 miles( 3,000 km) to improve protectiono f
the axle differential transmission.
This oil change prolongs the service life of the
axle differential transmission. Have the oil
change carrie dout at aqualified specialist work-
shop.
Driving
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Objects in the driver's footwell may restrict
the clearance around the pedal sorblock a
depressedp edal.This jeopardizes the oper-
ating and road safety of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident.
Stow al lobjects securely in the vehicle so that
they do not get into the driver's footwell.
When using floormats or carpets, make sure
that they are properly secured so that they do not sliporo bstruct the pedals. Do not place
severalf loormats or carpets on top of one
another.
GWARNING
Unsuitabl efootwear can hinde rcorrect usage
of the pedals, e.g.:

Rslippers

usage of the pedals.
GWARNING
If you switch off the ignition while driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all. This coul daffect,
for example, the power steering and the brake
boosting effect. You wil lrequire considerably
more effort to steer and brake .There is arisk

!Mercedes-AMG vehicles: at lowengine oil
temperatures belo w68‡ (+20† ),the max-
imu me ngine spee disrestricted in order to
protect the engine .Toprotect the engine and
maintain smooth engine operation, avoi ddriv-
ing at full throttle when the engine is cold.

As soo nasthe ignition is switched on, al lthe
indicator lamps in the instrument cluster light
up .Ifani ndicator lamp does not go ou tafter
startin gthe engine or lights up whil edriving, see

Ypage 189).
If the SmartKeyisinp osition gin the ignition
lock for alon gerp eriod, it can no longe rbe
turned in the ignition lock. The steerin gisthen
locked .Tounlock, remove the SmartKeya nd
reinsert it into the ignition lock.
The steerin gislocked when yo uremove the
SmartKeyf romthe ignition lock.

The starter battery could otherwis ebedis-
charged.

lock, the starter battery mayn ot be charged
sufficiently.

Starting procedure
XShift the automatic transmission to position

XMake sure thatt he parking brake is applied.
XTurn the SmartKeytop osition3in the igni-
tio nlock(Ypage 104) and release it as soon
as the engine is running.
Yo uc an also us ethe touch-start function. To do
this, turn the SmartKeytop osition3
(
Ypage 104 )and release it immediately. The
engine then starts automatically.
Pulling away
General notes
GWARNING
If the engine speed is above the idling speed
and yo uengag etransmission position Dor R,
the vehicl ecould pull away suddenly. There is
ar iskofana ccident.
Whe nengaging transmission position Dor R,
always firmly depress the brake peda land do
not simultaneously accelerate.
!Do not depress the accelerator peda lwhile
depressing the brake pedal. Thi simpairs
engine performance and results in premature
wear on the brake system and drivetrain.
!If aw arning tone sounds and the ReleasePark. Brakemessage appearsinthe multi-
functio ndisplay ,the parking brake is still
applied. Releas ethe parking brake.

Pulling away with atrailer

The ECO start/sto pfunction is activated eac h

The ECO start/sto pfunction is only available in
driv eprogram C/E.
The system is operational if all condition sfor
automatic engin eswitch-off hav ebeen fulfilled
(
Ypage 106) and th eè symbol is shown in
green in th emultifunction display.
In addition ,the Stop/Star tactive

display.
If no tall condition sfor automatic engin eswitch -

The ECO start/stopfunction is operational and
the è ECO symbol is shown in green in the
multifunction display,i f:
Rthe indicator lamp in the èECO button is
lit green
Rthe transfer case is in the HIGH RANGEon-
road position
Rthe vehicle is stationary
Rthe outside temperature and the atmospheric
air pressure is within the range that is suitable
for the system
Rthe engine is at normal operating temperature
Rthe set temperature for the vehicle interior
has been reached
Rthe battery is sufficiently charged
Rthe system detect sthat the windshield is not
fogged up when the air-conditioning system is switched on
Rthe hood is closed
Rthe driver's door is closed and the driver's
seat belt is fastened.
If the conditions for automatic engine switch-off
are not all fulfilled, the èECO symbol is
shown in yellow.
In addition, the Stop/Start inactive
mes-
sage is shown in the AMG menu in the multi-
function display.
iIf you shift the transmission from Rto D,t he
ECO start/sto pfunction is availablea gain
once the èECO symbol reappears in
green in the multifunction display.
iThe engine can be automatically switched
off an unlimited number of times.
iYou can still activate the HOLD function
when the vehicle is stationary, even if the
engine has been switched off automatically. It
is then not necessary to continue applying the
brakes during the automatic stop phase.
When you depress the accelerator pedal, the
engine start sautomatically and the braking
effect of the HOLD function is deactivated. Depress the accelerator pedal carefully, as
the engine must be started first.
iDuring automatic engine switch-off, the cli-
mate control system only operates at a
reduced capacity. If you require full climate
control capacity, the ECO start/sto pfunction
can be deactivated by pressing the ECO but-
ton (
Ypage 106).
Automatic engine start
The engine start sautomatically if:
RIn general:
-you switch off the ECO start/sto pfunction
by pressing the ECO button
-you release the brakes when in transmis-
sion position hori,w hen the HOLD
function is inactive
RBy the driver:
-you release the brakes when in transmis-
sion position hori
-you depress the accelerator pedal
-you engage reverse gear k
-you move the transmission out of position

-you switch to drive program Sor M
-you unfasten your seat belt or open the
driver's door
RBy the system:
-the vehicle start storoll
-the brake system requires this
-the temperature in the vehicle interior devi-
ates from the set range
-the system detect smoisture on the wind-
shield when the air-conditioning system is
switched on
-the condition of charge of the battery is too
low

Problems with the engine

If the engine does not start after several attempts:

The engine does not
start. The starter motor

XRefuel the vehicle.
The engine does not
start. You cannot hear
the starter motor.The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak or
discharged.
XJump-start the vehicle (Ypage 243).
If the engine does not start despite attempt stojump-start it:
XConsult aqualified specialist workshop.
The starter motor was exposed to athermal load that was too high.
XAllow the starter motor to cool down for approximately two minutes.
XTry to start the engine again.
If the engine still does not start:
XConsult aqualified specialist workshop.
The engine is not running
smoothly and is misfir-
ing.There is amalfunction in the engine electronics or in amechanical
componentoft he engine management system.
XOnly depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converter
and damage it.
XHave the cause rectified immediately at aqualified specialist work-
shop.

cool down.
XCheck the coolant level (Ypage 229). Observe the warning notes
as you do so and add coolant if necessary.
If the coolant level is correct,t he radiator fan may be faulty. The cool-
ant is too hot and the engine is no longer being cooled sufficiently.
XAt coolant temperatures below drive to the nearest
qualified specialist workshop.
XAvoid heavy loads on the engin easyou do so, e.g. driving in moun-
tainou sterrai nand stop-and-go traffic.

General notes
With adjustabl edamping you can choose
between two different suspensions ettings.

The automatic transmission switches to neu-

The vehicle may roll away .There is arisk of an
accident.
After switching off the engine, always switch
to parking position P.Prevent the parke dvehi-
cle from rolling away by applying the parking
brake.
iBear in mind that the power transmission
between the engine and the transmission is
interrupted whe nthe engine is switched off.
