Waxing
Wax prote cts the vehicle's paint.
- Use a manually applied car wax occasion ally to protect
t h e paint.
A good wax coating protects the vehicle paint to a large extent
against th e environm ental factors listed under~
page 252,
"Washing" and even against slight scratches .
You can use a liquid car wax to protect your paint as soon as one
wee k after you r vehic le has been delivered .
Even if you regularly use a
waxing process in automatic car washes,
we recommend that you manua lly app ly a coat of wax to give the
paint e xtra protection, par ticu lar ly if water no longer beads on the
clean paint.
Protec t plastic body parts with car wax in the same way as the
vehic le body.
During warm weather dead insects tend to col lect on the front
bumpe r and on the forward area of the hood. They are much easie r
to remove from paint that is waxed
often.

Polishing
Polishi ng resto res the gloss to the p aint.
Po lish your vehic le on ly if the paint has lost its shine and the g loss
cann ot be brought back wi th wax .
I f the polish used does not contain preservative compounds , the
paint must be waxed afterwards~

Trim strips
Metal trim needs special c are.
Fo r envi ronmental reasons, Audi fab ricates the bright trim strips
and trim pieces from pure chromium -free aluminum .
Dirt and marks on the trim strips should be removed with a
pH­
balanced
c leaning agent (do no t use a chr ome clean er). Authorized
Audi dea lers carry c leaning products which have been tested for use
on your vehicle and are not harm fu l to the enviro nment .
To avoid corrosion on the exterior trim strips , only a pH -ba lanced
solution shou ld be used for the windshield washer .

Plastic and vinyl
Plastic needs special care.
Use a clean, damp cloth or sponge to remove dust and light surface
dirt. For other soil, use a lukewarm all -purpose cleaning solution or
a mild saddle soap for vinyl trim. Remove water spots and traces of
soap with a clean, damp cloth or sponge . Use a clean, soft cloth to
rub dry .
Grease, tar or oil stains can be removed with a clean cloth or sponge
soaked with all-purpose cleaner or with a solvent designed espe­
cially to clean vinyl.
Occasionally apply a colorless vinyl or leather preservative to retain
the material's luster and pliability.

Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH products to remove spots and deposits from
aluminum surfaces. Chrome care products and alkaline cleaners
will attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Touch-up paint
Minor paint damages should be touched up immediately.
-Use either a touch -up paint stick or spray paint to cover
minor scratches and nicks.
Your authorized Audi dealer has touch-up paint for minor scratches
and stone chips. Scratches should be touched up soon after they
occur to prevent corrosion.
If a spot starts to rust, however, a simple touch-up job will not be
enough. The affected surface must be sanded smooth and coated
with an anti-rust primer before the painted finish can be restored.

vehicle identification label~
page 334.

Windows
Clear vision to all sides.
Clean all windows regularly to remove road film and car
wash wax buildup.
- Remove snow from windows using a brush.
- Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice from windows and
mirrors.
- Remove other residue on the windows with a spray-on
glass cleaner.
- Wipe the windows dry with a clean piece of cloth or
kitchen paper towel.

T he best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush . Use a non -abrasive
pla stic ice scraper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ice from w indows and mirrors .
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
these can interfere with the function of the w inds hie ld w iper blades
(chatter).
O il, grease, or silicone res idue can be removed with
glas s cleaner or
silicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a
spec ially fo rmulated so lvent . Please contac t your authorized Audi
dea ler for advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be c leaned on the inside at regular interva ls .
Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted surfaces . Wax residue on the chamois can impair vision
t hrough the windows .

• The windshield mu st not be treated with water -repellent m ate ­
rials . They can in crea se glare under poor v isibilit y conditio ns su ch
a s wetne ss , darkne ss , or when the sun i s low on the hori zon. In
additio n, they can cau se the windsh ield wipers to chatter .

• Never use warm or hot wat er to remove snow and ice from
windows a nd mirrors . This cou ld cause the glass to crack.
• T o prevent damage to the wires of the rear defogger, do not p lace
any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires .
• To he lp prevent dirt from scratching the window, always scrape
in a forward direction -pushing the scraper away from you -never
back and forth. •
Water leaking from the inside of the rear windows may damage
sensitive e lec trical componen ts located eit her u nder the rear parcel
she lf or in the rear trunk area . Always ensure that water never leaks
t hrough the body section of the vehicle. You can do this by using
waterproof protection over the vehic le 's electrical components (e.g .
when instal ling window tinting).
• Damage or malfunction of e lectrical components due to water
damage or any other outside in fluence is no t cove red by the Audi

Weatherstrips
Complete car care includes the weatherstrips as well.
-App ly a suitable rubber cond itioner to the weatherstr ips
from t ime to ti me.
io be able sea l properly, the weatherstrips around the hood, doors,
r ear lid, etc. must rema in pliable . Spray the weatherstr ips with sil i­
cone or coat them with talcum powder or g lycerin to retain the flex­
ibility of the rubber and to protect them against freezing in the
winter.

Cast (light) alloy wheels
Cast (light) alloy w heels require special care.
- Wash the wheels with a sponge or hose brush every
o th er week .
- For deep cleaning afte rwards, use only a dedicated
acid ­
free
cast a lloy wheel c leaner.
- Rub a coat of
liquid wa x onto the rims every t hree month.
Be sure to reac h and treat all parts of the rim.
To preserve the decorative appearance of the cast alloy wheels,
some special care is necessary. In add ition to road dirt and salt,
brake dust is also corrosive . If left on for too long, brake dust can
cause p itting.
Use on ly spec ial
acid -free cleaners formu lated for a lloy rims . Safe
products are available at your authorized Audi dealer. Never leave
t he cleaner on the rims longer than specif ied on the label. If not
rinsed off promptly, the acid contained in some cleaners can attack
t he threads on t he wheel bolts.
Never use abrasive or metal po lishing c leaning agents . If the protec ­
t ive coating has been chipped, e.g . by kicked up road dirt, touch it
up as soon as possible.

Body cavity sealing
T he body c avity se aling does n ot need to be c hecked .
All body cavities which could be affected by corrosion have been
th or ough ly pro tected at the factory .
T his sealing does not require any inspection or additional treat ­
ment . If any wax should seep out of the cavity when the ambient
temperature is high, it can be removed with a p lastic scraper and a
suitable solvent.

• Ben zine is flamm able and to xic . If you use benzine for removing
the wax , keep sparks , flame and lighted cigarettes away . Never
dump benz ine on the ground , into open streams or do wn se w age
drains .

Chassis
Have the underc oating checked for damage from time to
time.
T he lower body shell of your Audi is also thoroughly protected
against corrosion.
Any damage to the undercoating ca used by r oad ha zards shou ld be
repaired promp tly .

Too much undercoating in the wrong pla ces can cause a fire .

Care of interior
A pp lies to veh ic le s: wit h MMI
MMI display
-Cle a n the MMI display with a soft c lean clo th and an LCD
cleane r.
The MM I disp lay can be c leaned with a professionally ava ilable "LCD
cleaner" . Th e cloth should be s lightly dampened with the c leaning
fluid to clean the display.

To avoid scratching the MMI display, you should never c lean it dry .•

MMI terminal
- First clean t he MMI terminal with a brush to remove dust
f rom the housing .
- Th en wipe the MMI terminal with a clean, soft, s lig htly
d a mp cloth.
The MM I terminal should be c leaned with a brush first so that no
dirt is trapped between the buttons and the housing . We recom ­
mend giving the MMI terminal a fina l wipe with a c loth moistened
with wa ter and dish washing detergent .

To prevent damage, make sure that no f luid ever gets into the MM I
terminal. •
Aluminum trim
Use only neutral -pH products to remove spo ts and deposits from
a luminum surfaces . Chrome care products and alka line cleaners
wi ll attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time .

Fabrics and fabric coverings
Fabrics and fabric coverings (e .g . seats, door trim pane ls, etc.l
shou ld be c leaned at regular intervals with a vacuum cleaner . T his
removes surface dirt partic les which could become embedded in
the fabric through use . Steam cleaners should not be used, because
the steam tends to push the dirt deeper into the fabric and lock it
there.
Normal cleaning
Generally, we recommend using a soft sponge or a lint -free
microfiber c loth to the clean fabric . Brushes should on ly be used for
carpets and floor mats , since other fabric surfaces could be harmed
by b rushes. .,,

Normal surface stains can be cleaned using a commercially avail­
able foam cleaner . Spread the foam on the surface of the fabric with
a soft sponge and work it in gent ly . Do not saturate the fabric . Then
pat the foam dry us ing absorbent, dry cloths (e.g . microfiber c loth)
and vacuum it after it has dried completely .
Cleaning stains
Stains caused by beverages (e .g . coffee, fruit juice, etc.) can be
treated wi th a mild detergent so luti on. Apply the detergent so lution
with a sponge . In the case of stubborn stains, a detergent paste can
be applied di rectly to the stain and worked into the fabric . After ­
wards , use copious amounts of clean water to remove the
remaining detergent. App ly the water with a damp cloth or sponge
and pat the fabric dry with an absorbent, dry c lo th.
Stains from chocolate or makeup should have detergent paste
rubbed into them . Afterwards, remove the soap with water (damp
sponge) .
A lcohol can be used to treat stains from grease, oil, lipstick or a ball ­
point pen. Melted grease or dye must be patted o ff usi ng absorbent
material. It may be necessary to retreat the areas with detergent
paste and water .
In the case of genera l soiling of the upho lstery and cover material ,
we recommend hiring a specialist that has the equipment to clean
the seat covers and other fabric surfaces by shampooing and spray e xtrac tion .

Open Velcro fasteners on your clothing can damage the seat cover.
Please make sure that Velc ro fasteners a re c losed. •
Plastic parts and instrument panel
Always use a c lean cloth moistened in c lear water to clean these
areas. For persistent dir t use an Audi approved
solvent-free plas tic
cleaner/protectant.

Solvents can change the propertie s of some plastics and make it
harder fo r the airbag to deploy .
• Never clean the in strument panel or the surface of a irbag
module s with cleaning product s that contain sol vent s.
• Product s containing solvents will make the s urface of this part
porou s.
• Serious injuries can re sult if plastic parts come loo se when the

n at ural look and feel of interior leather.
General
We offer many different types of leat her on our vehicles . M ost are
different types of nappa leather, which has a smooth surface and
comes in va rious colors . _,,,

The intensity of the color determines the visual characteristics and
appearance . If the surface of the leathe r has a typica l natura l loo k,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has been left in a re latively
natural condition . This leather offers particu lar ly good comfort and
breathes well. Fine veins , closed grains, insect bites, skin folds, and
subt le variations in color remain visible . These characte ristics
demonstrate that the material is natu ral.
Natura l nappa lea ther is not covered by a color finish. It is therefore
more sensitive to soi ling and wear, which is something you need to
consider if children, anima ls or other factors m ight prove to be
particula rly ha rd on the leather.
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored finish layer
are more durable. This has a positive effect on the leather's resis­
tance to wear and so iling in daily use. On the other hand, the typica l
characteristics of natural leather are barely or not apparent .
However, this does not mean that the leather itself is of inferior
quality.
C are and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leather that Audi
uses and the ir unique properties (such as sensitivity to oi ls, grease,
soiling, etc.I, you will need to be somewhat careful with these
lea thers, a nd a certain type o f care is requ ired . For example, dark
clothing materials can discolor leather seats (especial ly if such
cloth ing is damp and wa s not dyed correctly). Dust and dirt particles
in pores, folds, and seams can have an abrasive effect and can
damage the leather surface as we ll as weaken seams .
The leather shou ld be c leaned regularly as needed . Af ter having
been used for a relative ly long time, your leather seats will acquire
a rich a ged finish. This is a cha racteristic of natural leather and a
sign of true qua lity.
I n orde r to mai ntain the value of this natura l p roduct over the life of
your vehic le, you should fo llow the recommendations below :

• To keep your leather from bleaching out, do not allow it to be
exposed to bright sun light for long periods of time . If you have to
leave the vehicle parked outside for long periods, cover the lea ther
to protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
• Sharp objects on c lothing, such as zippers, rivets or sharp p ieces
on belts can leave permanent scratches or sc rape marks on the
su rface of the leather.
[ i ] Tips
• After each t ime you clean the leather and a t regular i ntervals, use
a leather preservative cream that contains UV-blockers and that
wo rks int o the leathe r. This cream wil l n ou rish and moistur ize the
leather, helping it to breathe and stay supple . It a lso helps to build
up a protec tive coating on the surface .
• Clean the leather every 2 - 3 months, and c lean any areas that get
s o iled .
• Remove fresh marks made by bal lpoint pens, ink, lipstick, shoe
polish, etc . as soon as poss ible.
• P reserve the co lor of the leather as needed by using a special
colored leather ca re cream to touch up areas o f uneven colo r. •

Normal cleaning

Mor e stubborn dirt
- More stubborn dirt can be removed using a cloth satu ­
rated with a mild soap solution (2 tablespoons m ild
liquid soap) .
- Never allow the soap solut ion to saturate the leathe r, and
make certain that no water soaks into the seams.
- Wipe off the soap solu tion with a soft , dry clot h.
Cleaning spots
- Remove fresh water-ba sed spots (su ch as coffee, tea,
juices, b lo od) with an a bsorbent c loth or paper towel.
- Remove fresh
grease or oil-ba sed spots (such as butter,
mayonnaise, chocolate) with an absorbent cloth or paper
towel, or use the cleaner from the leather care kit if t he
s pot has not yet pene trate d in to the surface of the
l eather.
- Use an oil/g rease d issolv ing spray, if
oil /grease spots
have dried on.
- Remove specific kinds of spo ts (ballpoint pen, fe lt
marker, fingernai l po lish, water -based paint, shoe polish,
etc.) with a spot remover specifically formu lated for
leather.
Leather care
- Every hal f year us e an approve d leather car e product
(available from your authorized Audi deale r) to care for
the leather .
- App ly the pr odu ct very sparingly .
Wipe it off wit h a damp cloth.

in yo ur vehicle, it is best to co ntac t your authorized Audi dea ler, who
wi ll be glad to he lp you and tell you about our ful l range of lea ther
