Driver information display
When a yellow warning symbol appears, one warning tone sounds. A
dr iver message appears as well to explain the ma lfunction in more
detail. The driver warning goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can
be brought up at any time by pressing the !SET] button again.
Check the function displayed as soon as possible. The yellow symbol
will not go out again until the reason for the malfunction has been
corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the symbols appear in
succession and remain for about 2 seconds .

Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning monitors the function of
the light bulbs in the vehicle.
T he defect ive light bulb war ning moni tors t he f unct io n of the light
bulbs. If a defective light b ulb is detected, or if a light bu lb has
burned o ut, a ye llow sym bol appe ars as we ll as a not ifica tion th at
shows which light bulb is defective .
Defective bulb~
If this symbol I") lights up, a t urn signa l (front or rear), a head lamp, a
bra ke light, t he b ack-up light, a fog l amp o r a rear fog lamp h as
fa iled.
& WARNING
• Light bulbs are unde r pre ssure and can explode when bulbs are
replaced - risk of injury.
• With gas-discharge lamp s* (xenon headlights ), the high­
voltage component must be handled appropriately . Doing other­
wise poses a risk of death!

Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near the
battery.
The battery is located in the luggage compartment under the
floor. Before you check anything in the lu~gage compart­
ment, read and heed all WARNINGS=>

Always heed the safety warnings, when working on the vehicle
battery or the vehicle electrical system to prevent injury.
The following WARNINGS are very important when
working on the battery:

Always wear eye protection.
Battery acid contains sulfuric acid. Always wear
gloves and eye protection.

- smoking .
When a battery is charged, it produces hydrogen
gas which is explosive and could cause personal
injury.
Always keep the battery well out of reach of chil­
dren .
& WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on the electrical system,
there is the risk of injury, accident and even fire. Read and heed
the following WARNINGS:

• Always wear eye protection. Do not let battery acid or any lead
particles get on your skin or clothing. Shield your eyes. Explosive
gases can cause blindness or other injury.
• Battery acid contains sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid can cause
blindness and severe burns.
-Always wear gloves and eye protection. Do not tilt the
battery because acid could leak out of the ventilation open­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in your eyes or on your skin, immedi­
ately rinse with cold water for several minutes and get medical
attention.
- If you should ingest any battery acid, seek medical attention
immediately.
• Do not expose the battery to an open flame, electric sparks or
an open light.
• Do not smoke.
• Do not interchange the positive and negative cables.
• When working on the battery, be sure not to short-circuit the
terminals with tools or other metal objects. This would cause the
battery to heat up very quickly, which could lead to damage or
explosion and personal injury.
• When a battery is charged, it produces hydrogen gas which is
explosive and could cause personal injury.
• Always keep the battery well out of the reach of children.
• Before work is done on the electrical system, disconnect the
negative ground cable.
• Before performing any work on the electrical system, switch
off the engine and ignition as well as any electrical equipment.
The negative cable on the battery must be disconnected. If you are
just going to replace a light bulb, then it is enough to switch off the lights. ..,_

What do I do now?
Trunk escape handle
In case of an emergency, the rear lid can be opened from
the inside using the trunk escape handle.

- Pull the hand le down towards the bumper~ fig. 234.
The trunk escape handle inside the rear lid is made of fl uorescent
m aterial to glow in the dark.
& WARNING
The trunk e scape handle is to be u sed only in an emergency.

T he emerge ncy re lease lever should never be used as a handle for
closing the rear lid. •

Replacing a fuse
A problem in the electrical system may be caused by a
blown fuse.

- Locate the fuse which belongs to the component which
failed.
- Switch off the ignition and the electrical component affected.
- Carefully pry the face cover
off the instrument panel using
a screwdriver => fig. 244 .
- Remove the plastic clip from its retainer in the face cover,
place it over the questionable fuse and remove the fuse.
- Replace a blown fuse (recognizable by the melted metal
strip inside) with a fuse of the
same amperage.
The individual circuits are protected by fuses. The fuse panels with
the fuses are located on the left and right front faces of the instru-

ment panel behind a cover and in the right storage area in the
luggage compartment.
There is a plastic clip in the cover on the left side of the instrument
panel, which can be used to remove the fuses. You will also find a
label on both covers in the instrument panel with the fuse layout for
the corresponding fuse panel.
& WARNING
Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating.
• A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electrical
part and cause a fire.
0 Note
• On no account should fuses be repaired (e.g. patched up with tin
foil or wire) as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the elec­
trical circuit or cause fire .
• If a fuse blows repeatedly, do not keep replacing it. Instead, have
the cause of the repeated short circuit or overload located and fixed.
Ii] Tips
You are well advised to keep a supply of spare fuses in your vehicle .
Fuses with the proper ampere ratings are available at your authorized
Audi dealer. •

Replacing bulbs
F or your safety, we recommend that you have your autho­
ri zed Audi dealer replace any bulbs for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more diff icult to rep lace vehicle
ligh t bulbs since in many cases, other parts o f the car must fi rst be
removed before yo u are able to get to the bulb . This applies especially
to the light bu lbs in the front of your car which you can on ly reach
throug h the engi ne compartment .
Sheet meta l and bu lb holders can have sharp edges that can ca use
ser ious cuts, parts must be co rrectly t aken ap art and the n properly
put back together to he lp prevent breakage of parts and long term
d am age fro m water t hat c an enter housings that have no t been p rop­
erly resea led.
For your safety, we recommend that you have you r authorized Audi
dealer replace any bulbs fo r you, since yo ur dealer has t he p roper
too ls, the correct bu lbs and the expertise.
Gas discharge lamp s (Xenon light s)* :
Due to the high electr ica l voltage , have the bulbs replaced by a qual­
ified technicia n. Hea dlights w ith Xenon light are ident ified by the
high voltage sticker .
& WARNING
Changing Xenon lamps w ithout the necessary equipment can
cause serious personal injury.
• Bulbs are pressur ized and can explode when being changed.
Potential risk of injury !
• On vehicles equipped with gas discharge bulbs (Xenon light )*
lif e-threatening injurie s can re sult from improper handling of the
high- voltage port ions of such lamps ! .,_
