Thebestmethodofprotectingyourcarfromthedamagingeffectsoftheenvironmentisfrequentwashingandtheapplicationofapreservative.Theundersideofyourvehicleshouldalsobethoroughlywashedforcinders,saltorsandingatwinter’send.
Thelongersalt,roaddustandindustrialdust,deadinsects,birddroppingsorsubstancesfromtrees(resin,pollen)areallowedtoremainonthebodywork,themoreseriousistheirharmfuleffect.
Newcarsshouldbewashedcarefullywithplentyofclearwatertoprotectthenewpaintwork.Darkpaintfinishesshowupthesmallestofsurfacedamage(e.g.,scratches)morereadilythanlightercolors.
Darkcolorsarealsomoresusceptibletoscratch-ingbecauseofthecompositionoftheirpigmentsandrequireparticularlycarefulpaintcare.
Donotwashyourcarinbrightsunlightorwhilethebodyworkisstillhot.
Whenwashingbyhand,useabundantwater,asoftspongeorwashbrush,andPorschecarshampoo.
Beginbysprayingthebodythoroughlywithwatertorinseawayloosedirt.

Afterwashing,rinsethecarwithplentyofwaterandthendrywithachamoisleather.Donotusethesamechamoisleatherfordryingasyouuseforcleaningthewindshieldandwindows.

Moisturewhichgetsontothebrakesduringacarwashcanreducebrakingefciencyormakethebrakespullunevenlywhichcouldincreasethedangerofanaccident,causingseriouspersonalinjuriesordeath.
Alwaysapplythebrakesafewtimesafterwashingthecartotestbrakingefficiencyanddrythebrakediscs.Whendoingthis,takecarenottohamperotherroadusersbehindyou(trafficconditionspermitting).
Automaticcarwashes

Automaticcarwashesspraywateratoddanglesandhighpressures,whicharenotseeninnormaldriving.Therefore,watercansometimesfinditswayintothepassengerscompartmentduringorshortlyafterthecarwash.
Doorlocks
Topreventthedoorlocksfromfreezingduringthecoldseason,thelockcylindersshouldbecoveredduringawash.
Shouldthelocksfreeze,useanordinaryde-icer.Inmanycases,awellwarmedkeycanhelp.Neveruseexcessiveforce.

Paint
Neverrubadustycarwithadryclothsincedustparticlesareabrasiveandcoulddullanddamagethesurfacefinish.
Thepaintworkofyourcarisexposedtoalltypesofmechanicalandchemicalconditions,particularlyclimaticonessuchasbrightsunlight,rain,frostandsnow.Ultravioletlight,rapidchangesintemperature,rain,snow,industrialdustandchemicaldepositsconstantlyattackthepaintwhichisonlyabletowithstandsuchexposureinthelongtermifitisgivenregularcareandattention.
Donotapplysiliconepolishestothewindows.
Donottreatmatt-paintedcomponentswithpreservativesorpolishesasthiswillspoilthematteeffect.
Preservation
Thepaintsurfacebecomesdullovertimeduetoweathering.Itisthereforenecessarytopreservethepaintregularly.
Thiskeepsthepaintshinyandelastic.Dirtispreventedfromadheringtothepaintsurfaceandindustrialdustispreventedfrompenetratingthepaint.
Provideditiswashedandtreatedwithpreservativeregularly,thebrandnewfinishofyourvehiclewillberetainedforyearstocome.
Simplyapplypaintpreservativeafterwashingthevehicleandpolishitsmooth.
Polishing
DonotresorttousingPorschepolishuntilitbecomesevidentthatthenormalpreservativesnolongerproducethedesiredfinish.
Spotsandstains
Removetarstains,grease,oilspotsanddeadinsectsassoonaspossiblewithInsectRemover.Theycancausediscolorationifallowedtoremainonthepaintwork.
Washtheaffectedareaimmediatelyaftertreatingit.
Minorpaintdamage
Haveminorpaintdamage,suchasscratches,scoresorchipscausedbyflyingstones,repairedimmediatelybyyourauthorizedPorschedealerbeforecorrosionsetsin.
However,iftherearealreadytracesofcorrosion,theymustfirstberemovedcarefullyandthorough-ly.Coattheareawitharust-proofingprimerandfinishoffwithatopcoat.ThepaintcodeandcolornumberarefoundonthedatabankintheMainte-nancebookletandonthefillerflap.
Cleaningandpreservingengine
compartment
Theenginecompartmentandthesurfaceoftheenginearetreatedwithacorrosion-inhibitoratthefactory.
Ifdegreasingsolventsareusedtocleantheenginecompartmentortheengineiswasheddown,theprocessalmostinvariablyremovesthecorrosion-inhibitingcoating.Itisthenabsolutelynecessarytohaveadurablepreservativeappliedtoallsurfaces,bodyseams,jointsandassembliesintheenginecompartment.Thisalsoapplieswhencorrosion-inhibitorpartsarereplaced.

Effectivecorrosion-proofingisparticularlyimpor-tantduringthecoldweatherseason.Ifyourcarisdrivenfrequentlyinareaswheresalthasbeenspreadontheroads,thewholeenginecompart-mentshouldbecleanedthoroughlyafterthewintertopreventsaltfromcausinganylastingdamage.Afullunder-bodywashshouldalsobeperformedatthesametime.
