CIRCUIT OPERATION The Immobilizer-ECU is energized by the MFI relay when the ignition switch is
turned "ON". The PCM transmits a signal from scan tool MB991958 to the
immobilizer-ECU as it is. In the same way, a signal from the immobilizer-ECU is
also transmitted to scan tool MB991958 as it is. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
This malfunction may be caused by a defective immobilizer-ECU, PCM, or a
defect in the communication line between the immobilizer-ECU and PCM. If
this malfunction appears when the MFI system and scan tool MB991958 can
communicate each other, MFI system DTC P0513 will reset. If the MFI system is normal, the MFI relay can be determined as normal. In
addition, if the MFI system and scan tool MB991958 can communicate each
other, the circuits between the data link connector and the PCM can determined
as normal.

2. Turn the ignition switch "ON" position.
3. Read the immobilizer system diagnostic trouble code.
Q: Does DTC11 reset?
YES: Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
.
NO: Replace the ignition key that cannot be registered. Then go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Retest the system.
Register the ignition key.
Q: Does registered ignition key function properly?
YES: The procedure is complete.
NO: Replace the immobilizer-ECU.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3: ENGINE CRANKS, BUT DOES NOT START TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION If the engine cranks, but does not start, an MFI system problem may exist in
addition to a malfunctioning immobilizer system. The engine will not start if the
ignition key has not been properly registered. TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

When you check if an TCL/ASC DTC will be displayed again after the DTC has
been erased, you should duplicate the TCL/ASC DTC set conditions. Depending on
the detection timing and set conditions for the specific TCL/ASC DTC, you must
either drive the vehicle or turn the engine off and restart it. To set the proper
conditions for that DTC again, refer to "TCL/ASC DTC SET CONDITIONS
" for
each TCL/ASC DTC that you are trying to reset.
TCL/ASC DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING STRATEGY Use these steps to plan your diagnostic strategy. If you follow them carefully, you
will be sure that you have exhausted most of the possible ways to find an TCL/ASC
fault.
1. Gather information about the problem from the customer.
2. Verify that the condition described by the customer exists.
3. Check the vehicle for any TCL/ASC DTC.
4. If you cannot verify the condition and there are no TCL/ASC DTCs, the
malfunction is intermittent. Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH
INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS
.
5. If you can verify the condition but there are no TCL/ASC DTCs, or the system
cannot communicate with the scan tool, check that the basic brake system is
operating properly.
If the basic brake system is not operating properly, refer to the BASIC BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
, .
If the basic brake system is operating properly, refer to SYMPTOM CHART
.
6. If there is an TCL/ASC DTC, record the number of the DTC, then erase the
DTC from the memory using the scan tool.
7. Duplicate the TCL/ASC DTC set conditions to see if the same TCL/ASC DTC
will set again.
If the same TCL/ASC DTC sets again or the TCL/ASC DTC cannot be
erased, perform the diagnostic procedures for the DTC. Refer to
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART
.
If you cannot
get the same TCL/ASC DTC to set a
gain, the malfunction is

When DTC code C1210 is set: Rear right ABS sensor When DTC code C1215 is set: Rear left ABS sensor
Q: Is the ABS sensor damaged?
YES: Replace the ABS sensor. Then go to Step 17.
NO: It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. Refer to
HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS
.
STEP 16. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code.
Check again if the DTC is set.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
2. Erase the DTC.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
5. Check if the DTC is reset.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Set scan tool MB991958 to data reading mode for item 30: Straight G
sensor, item 31: Lateral G sensor and item 33: Yaw rate G sensor.
Item 30: Straight G sensor
Acceleration should change within the range of -9.8 -9.8 m/s

during running.
Item 31: Lateral G sensor
Acceleration should change within the range of -9.8 -9.8 m/s
2
during running.
Item 33: Yaw late sensor
Angular velocity should change within the range of -50 -50 deg/s
during running.
Q: Does the G and yaw rate sensor output correct acceleration and
angular velocity?
YES: Go to Step 5.
NO: Go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code after the G and yaw rate
sensor is replaced.
Replace the G and yaw rate sensor, and check whether DTC C1223 is reset.
1. Replace the G and yaw rate sensor.
2. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connec
tor. CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958,
always turn the ignition switch to the
"LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or
disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

Q: Is DTC C1505 set?
YES: Go to Step 5.
NO: The procedure is complete.
STEP 5. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code after the steering sensor is
replaced.
Replace the steering sensor, and check whether DTC C1505 or C1506 is reset.
1. Replace the steering sensor.

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL) DIAGNOSIS INTRODUCTION TO TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL) DIAGNOSIS TCL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DETECTION CONDITIONS TCL diagnostic trouble codes (TCL DTCs) are set under different conditions,
depending on the malfunction detected. Most TCL DTCs will only be set during
vehicle operation. Some TCL DTCs will also be set during the TCL self-check
immediately after the engine is started. When you check if an TCL DTC will be
displayed again after the DTC has been erased, you should recreate the TCL DTC
set conditions. Depending on the detection timing and set conditions for the specific
TCL DTC, you must either drive the vehicle or turn the engine off and restart it. To
set the proper conditions for that DTC again, refer to "TCL DTC SET
CONDITIONS" for each TCL DTC that you are trying to reset. TCL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING STRATEGY Use these steps to plan your diagnostic strategy. If you follow them carefully, you
will check most of the possible causes of a TCL problem.
1. Gather information from the customer.
2. Verify that the condition described by the customer exists.
3. Check the vehicle for any TCL DTC.
4. If you can verify the condition but no TCL DTCs are set, and the malfunction
may be intermittent. Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT
MALFUNCTIONS
5. If you can verify the condition but there is no TCL DTCs, or the system cannot
communicate with scan tool MB991958 (MUT-III sub assembly), refer to
SYMPTOM CHART , and find the fault.
6. If there is a TCL DTC, record the number of the code, then erase the code from
vehicle memory using scan tool MB991958 (MUT-III sub assembly).
7. Re-create the TCL DTC set conditions to see if the same TCL DTC will set
again.
If the same TCL DTC sets again, perform the diagnostic procedures for
the set code. Refer to TCL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
