CHASSIS AND BODY MAINTENANCE
(Annual Mileage <30,000 Km [18,000 miles]/year)
Abbreviations: I = Inspect and correct or replace as necessary, R = Replace
NOTE:
(1) If towing a trailer, using a camper or a car-top carrier, or driving on rough or muddy roads, inspect CVT fluid deterioration with
CONSULT-II every 90,000 km (54,000 miles), then change CVT fluid NS-2 if necessary. (Refer to CVT-46, "
Check CVT Fluid Dete-
rioration Date" .) And if CONSULT-II is not available, change (not just inspect) CVT fluid NS-2 every 90,000 km (54,000 miles).
Using transmission fluid other than Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-2 will damage the CVT, which is not covered by the
warranty.
(2) Inspect once per year.
Maintenance items with “ ” should be performed more frequently according to “Maintenance Under Severe Driving
Conditions”. MAINTENANCE OPERATIONMAINTENANCE INTERVAL

RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTSPFP:00000
Fluids and LubricantsBLS0009C
*1: For further details, see “SAE Viscosity Number”.
*2: Use Genuine NISSAN Anti-freeze Coolant or equivalent in its quality, in order to avoid possible aluminum corrosion within the engine
cooling system caused by the use of non-genuine engine coolant.
Note that any repairs for the incidents within the engine cooling system while using non-genuine engine coolant may not be
covered by the warranty even if such incidents occurred during the warranty period.
*3: Contact a Nissan dealership for more information regarding suitable fluids, including recommended brand(s) of DEXRON
TM III/MER-
CONTM Automatic Transmission Fluid.
*4: Using transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2 will damage the CVT, which is not covered by the war-
ranty.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE (VQ23DE AND VQ35DE)
ENGINE MAINTENANCE (VQ23DE AND VQ35DE)PFP:00100
Checking Drive BeltsBLS0005J
WARNING:
Be sure to perform the following when engine is stopped.
1. Inspect belts for cracks, fraying, wear and oil. If necessary, replace.
2. Inspect drive belt deflection at a point on the belt midway
between pulleys.
Inspection should be done only when engine is cold, or over
30 minutes after engine is stopped.
When measuring deflection, apply 98 N (10 kg, 22 lb) at the
marked point.
Adjust if belt deflection exceeds the limit.
CAUTION:
When checking belt deflection immediately after installa-
tion, first adjust it to the specified value. Then, after turning
crankshaft two turns or more, re-adjust to the specified
value to avoid variation in deflection between pulleys.
Release the tension by loosing lock nut and turning adjust-
ing bolt when adjusting the belt. Tighten once the lock nut
at 4.9 N·m (0.50 Kg-m, 43 in-lb). Then, adjust the belt ten-
sion by loosing lock nut between 45° and 90°.
Belt Deflection
Tension AdjustmentBLS0005K
CAUTION:
When belt is replaced with a new one, adjust it to value for “New belt” to accommodate for insuffi-
cient adaptability with pulley grooves.
When deflection of belt being used exceeds “Limit”, adjust it to value for “After adjustment”.
When checking belt deflection immediately after installation, first adjust it to the specified value.
Then, after turning crankshaft two turns or more, re-adjust to the specified value to avoid variation
in deflection between pulleys.
When installing belt, make sure that it is correctly engaged with pulley groove.
Keep engine oil, working fluid and engine coolant away from belt.
Do not twist or bend belt excessively.

ALTERNATOR AND A/C COMPRESSOR BELT
1. Remove splash guard (RH).
2. Loosen idler pulley lock nut (A).
3. Release the belt tension on idler pulley by turning adjusting nut
(B).
4. Tighten lock nut (A).
5. Loosen lock nut (A) between 45° and 90°.
6. Adjust tension by turning adjusting nut (B).
For specified belt tension, refer to EM-128, "Checking Drive
Belts" .
7. Tighten lock nut (A).
8. Tighten adjusting nut (B).
POWER STEERING OIL PUMP BELT
1. Remove splash guard (RH).
2. Loosen lock bolt (C).
3. Loosen power steering oil pump mounting bolt (D).
Bolt head (D) is engine rear side.
4. Adjust tension by turning adjusting bolt (E).
For specified belt tension, refer to MA-24, "Checking Drive Belts" .
NOTE:
Adjusting bolt (E) is loosened with counterclockwise rotation.
5. Tighten lock bolt (C).
6. Tighten power steering oil pump mounting bolt (D).
Changing Engine CoolantBLS0005L
WARNING:
To avoid being scalded, do not change engine coolant when engine is hot.
Wrap a thick cloth around radiator cap and carefully remove the cap. First, turn the cap a quarter
of a turn to release built-up pressure. Then turn the cap all the way.
Be careful not to allow engine coolant to contact drive belts. : 4.9 N·m (0.50 kg-m, 43 in-lb)
