Always stow objects in such a way that

Before the journey, secure objects, lug-

age or loads against slipping or tipping

If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incor
rectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open stowage spaces and mobile
phone brackets cannot always retain all
objects they contain.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of braking manoeuvres or abrupt
changes in direction. 
Always stow objects so that they cannot
be t
hrown around in such situations. 
Always make sure that objects do not
pr

otrude from stowage spaces, luggage
nets or stowage nets. 
Close the lockable stowage spaces
bef
ore starting a journey. 
Stow and secure objects that are heavy,
har
d, pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or too
large in the load compartment. &
WARNING Risk of accident fr
om objects in
the driver's footwell and front-passenger
footwell
Objects in the driver's footwell and front-
passeng
er footwell may impede pedal travel or
block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardises the operating and road safety
of the vehicle. 
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely
so t
hat they cannot get into the driver's
footwell or front-passenger footwell. 134

Always Nt the Ooor mats securely and as
prescribed in order to ensure that there
is always suPcient clearance for the
pedals. 
Do not use loose Ooor mats and do no
t
lay multiple Ooor mats on top of one
another. Vehicles with automatic front passenger airbag
shut-oM:

apped under the front
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front passenger airbag shut-oM or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on
the function of the automatic front passenger air-
bag shut-oM ( page 55). &
WARNING !

The driving characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on t
he distribution of the load within
the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= never exceed the permissible gross mass or
the permissible axle loads for the vehicle
(including occupants).

edge of the seat backrests.
= when transporting objects in the load com-
partment, always install the load compartment

Notes on driving with a roof load
= Evenly distribute the roof load, and place
heavy objects at the bottom. Also comply with
the notes on loading the vehicle. =
Dr ive attentively, and avoid suddenly pulling
away, braking and steering as well as rapid
cornering.
= When transporting roof loads and when the
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive programs  and A. These are
designed to focus on stability (  page 206).

cover of the stowage compartment in the front
centre console forwards.
The cover will automatically close the stowage

When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a v
ehicle occupant. 
When adjusting a seat, make sure that
no one has an
y body parts in the sweep
of the seat. &
WARNING Risk of an accident because

he seat backrest is not engaged
The seat backrest may fold forwards.
Ther
e is a risk of the following, in particular:
= The vehicle occupant may be pressed
against the seat belt. The seat belt cannot
protect as intended and could cause addi-
tional injury. =
A c
hild restraint system is no longer prop-
erly supported or properly positioned and
may no longer fulNl its function as inten-
ded.
= The seat backrest cannot restrain objects
or goods in the boot or load compartment.
Always ensure that the seat backrest is
engaged, especially:
= Aser the seat has been adjusted.
= Aser the load compartment enlargement
has been folded forwards Make sure that the red marking of the lock
v
eriN-
cation indicator is no longer visible. Otherwise,
the seat backrest will not be locked.
Always ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly. Particular attention must be paid to chil-
dren.
Requirements: = The r

ear seat backrest head restraints are fully
inserted. 138
Seats and stowing

=
V ehicles with a folding rear armrest: the rear
armrest has been folded up.
Folding the rear seat backrests forward mechani-
cally
You can fold the centre and right seat backrests
forwards separately.
The les seat backrest can be folded forwards only
together with the centre seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a centre seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back
into place. 
Ensure that the centre seat backrest is in an
upr

ight position and engaged with the les seat
backrest (  page 142). 
Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 int
o
marked position 2. 
Move the driver's or front passenger seat for-
w

ards, if necessary. 
Pull release lever 1. 
Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-
w
ards.
Folding the rear seat backrests forward electri-
call
y
You can fold the centre and right seat backrests
forwards separately. Seats and stowing

together with the centre seat backrest.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a centre seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back
into place. 
Ensure that the centre seat backrest is in an
upr

ight position and engaged with the les seat
backrest (  page 142). 
Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 int
o
marked position 2. 
If at least one section of the rear seat back-
r

est is folded forwards, the corresponding
front seat will move forwards slightly, if neces-
sary, to avoid a collision. The rear head
restraints are lowered as required. 
In the rear: pull release lever 1.140

In the load compartment: br ieOy pull one of
buttons 1.
The corresponding seat backrest will be
unlocked.
If the les seat backrest is not locked with the
centre seat backrest, this will be shown on the
driver's display. 
Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-
w

ards. Folding the centre rear seat backrest forwards
separ
ately
If you no longer require the folded-down seat
backrest as a loading area, fold the backrest back
into place.
Vehicles with a "Premium rear passenger com-
partment" do not have a centre seat backrest.

Folding back the rear seat backrest
