While opening andclosing thesliding sun-
roof, body parts inclose proximity could
become trapped. Thereisarisk ofinjury.
Make surethatnobody parts areinclose
proximity duringtheopening andclosing
procedures.
If somebody becomestrapped:
R release theswitch immediately, or
R during automatic operation, pushthe
switch brieflyinany direction
The opening orclosing procedure willbe
stopped. G
WARNING
If children operatethesliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly ifthey
are left unsupervised. Thereisarisk of
injury.
When leaving thevehicle, alwaystake the
SmartK eywith youand lock thevehicle.
Never leavechildren unsupervised inthe
vehicle. G
WARNING
At high speeds theraised sliding sunroof
automatically lowersslightly atthe rear. This
could trapyouorother persons. Thereisa
risk ofinjury. Makesurethatnobody rea-
ches intothesweep ofthe sliding sunroof
whilst thevehicle isin motion.
If somebody becomestrapped,immediately
pull back thesliding sunroof switch.The

weather canchange abruptly .It could
start torain orsnow. Makesurethatthe
sliding sunroof isclosed whenyouleave the
vehicle. Thevehicle electronics canbedam-
aged ifwater enters thevehicle interior.
i Resonance
noisescanoccur inaddition to
the usua lairflow noiseswhenthesliding
sunroof isopen. Theyarecaused byminor
pressure fluctuations inthe vehicle interior.
Change theposition ofthe sliding sunroof or
open aside window slightlytoreduce or

In the followi ngsection, theterm "slidingsun-
roof" refers tothe panorama roofwith power
tilt/sliding panel.
The sliding sunroof isequip pedwith anauto-
matic reversing feature.Ifasolid object blocks
or restrict sthe sliding sunroof duringtheclos-
ing process, thesliding sunroof opensagain
automaticall y.However, theautomatic revers-
ing feature isonly anaid and does notrelieve
you ofthe responsibili tyof payi ngattent ion
when closing thesliding sunroof. G
WARNING
The reverse function doesnotreact inpar-
ticular:
R to soft, lightandthin objects, e.g.fingers
R over thelast 1/6 in(4 mm) ofthe closing
path
R while adjusting
R when closing thesliding sunroof again
manuall yimmediately afterautomatic
reversing
This means thatthereversing featurecan-
not prevent someone beingtrapped inthese

Turn theSmart Keytoposition 0047or0048 in
the ignition lock(Ypage 125).
X Press orpull the0057 switch inthe corre-
sponding direction.
If you press/pull the0057 switch beyond the
point ofresistanc e,automatic operationis
start edinthe correspon dingdirection .You
can stop automatic operationbypressing/
pulling theswitch again.
Aft eropening thesliding sunroof, theroller
sunblind closesslightly automatically. This
reduces draftsinthe vehicle interior.
If the sliding sunroof israised atthe rear, it
lowers slightly automatically athigher speeds.
The noise levelinthe vehicle interioris
reduced asaresult.
At low speeds itraises againautomatically.
You canalso temporarily deactivateautomatic
lowering. Todo so, press the0057 switch. The
sliding sunroof raisesagainautomatically.
You cancont inue tooperate thesliding sun-
roof after switching offthe engine orremoving
the Smart Keyfrom theignition lock.Thisfunc-
tion remains activeforfive minutes oruntil
you open afront door.
The sliding sunroof cannotbe opened ifaroof
carrier isinstalled. Inorder toallow ventilation
of the vehicle interior,you can raise thesliding
sunroof.
If cont actismade witharoof carrier approved
by Mercedes- Benz,the sliding sunroof lowers
slightly butremains raisedatthe rear.
Rain-closing feature The
rain-c losing feature isonly availabl efor
vehicles witharain sensor.
When theSmart Keyisin position 005Ainthe
ignition lockorisremoved, thesliding sunroof
closes automatically:
R ifit start sto rain.
R at extr eme outside temperat ures.
R after sixhours.
R ifthere isamalfunct ioninthe power supply.
The panorama roofwith power tilt/sliding
panel remains raisedatthe rear inorder to
allow ventilation ofthe vehicle interior.
If the panorama roofwith power tilt/sliding
panel isobstruct edwhile being closed bythe
rain-c losing feature, itopens againslightly.
The rain-c losing feature isthen deactivated. The
panorama roofwith power tilt/sliding
panel doesnotclose if:
R itis raised atthe rear.
R itis blocked.
R no rain isfalling onthe area ofthe wind-
shield beingmonitoredbythe rain sensor. If
the vehicle, forexample, isunder abridge or
in acarport ,the field ofthe sensor maybe

ing process, theroller sunblind opensagain
automatically. Theautomatic reversingfeature
is only anaid and isnot asubstitute foryour
