chapter
describes
all
standard,
country-spejcific
and
optional
equipment
available
for
the
model
series.
It
may
therefore
describe
equipj
ment
and
functions
which
are
not
installed
in your
vehicle,
for
example
on
account
of
the
spejcial
equipment
selected
or
the
country
specificaj
tion.
This
also
applies
to
safety-relevant
funcj
tions
and
systems.
Please
comply
with
the
relevant
laws
and
regulations
when
using
the
corresponding
functions
and
systems.
Reducing
fuel
consumption
General
The
vehicle
possesses
wide-ranging
technoloj
gies
for
reducing
consumption
and
emission
levj
els.
Fuel
consumption
depends
on
various
factors.
A
number
of
measures,
such
as
a
moderate
drivj ing
style
and
regular
maintenance,
can
influencefuel
consumption
and
reduce
the
burden
on
the
environment.
Remove
unnecessary
loadsExtra
weight
increases
fuel
consumption.
Remove
add-on
accessories
after
use
If
no
longer
required,
remove
auxiliary
mirrors,
roof
racks
and
rear-mounted
racks
after
use.
Add-on
accessories
on
the
vehicle
can
adverselyaffect
its
aerodynamic
performance
and
increasefuel
consumption.
Closing
windows
and
the
Glass
Roof
An
open
Glass
Roof
or
open
window
increase drag
and
consequently
fuel
consumption.
Tyres GeneralTyres
can
have
differing
effects
on
consumptionfigures.
Consumption
can
be
affected
by
the
size
of
the
tyres,
for
example.
Check
tyre
inflation
pressure
regularly
Check
and,
if
necessary,
correct
the
tyre
inflation
pressures
at
least
twice
a
month
and
before
setj
ting
off
on
a
longer
journey.
Insufficient
tyre
inflation
pressure
increases
rollj
ing
resistance
and
consequently
fuel
consumpj
tion
and
tyre
wear.
Observe
the
correct
tyre
inflation
pressure
and
the
ECO
tyre
inflation
pressure
where
applicable.

Drive
off
immediately
Do
not
warm
up
the
engine
with
the
vehicle
at
a
standstill,
but
instead
set
off
straight
away,
drivj ing
at
moderate
engine
speeds.
This
brings
the
cold
engine
up
to
operating
temj perature
as
quickly
as
possible.
Think
ahead
Anticipating
the
road
situation
and
adopting
a smooth
driving
style
will
reduce
fuel
consumpj
tion.
Avoid
accelerating
and
braking
unnecessarily.
Keep
an
appropriate
distance
from
the
vehicle

Avoid
high
engine
speeds
Driving
at
low
engine
speeds
reduces
fuel
conj sumption
and
wear.
Pay
attention
to
the
shift
point
indicator,
see
page
165,
in
the
vehicle,
if
fitted.
Make
use
of
overrun
mode When
approaching
a
red
traffic
light,
take
yourfoot
off
the
accelerator
and
allow
the
vehicle
tocoast
to
a
stop.
On
downward
stretches,
take
your
foot
off
the accelerator
and
allow
the
vehicle
to
roll.
The
fuel
supply
is
interrupted
in
overrun
mode.The
high-voltage
battery
is
charged.
Regular
charging
Charge
up
the
vehicle
as
often
as
possible
at
a
charging
facility.
This
reduces
fuel
consumption
further
by
using
electrical
energy.
Switch
off
the
engine
if
stopping
for
longer
periods
When
you
stop
the
vehicle
for
longer
periods,
for
example
at
traffic
lights,
railway
crossings
or
in
traffic
jams,
switch
off
the
engine.
Switch
off
functions
which
are
not
currently
required
Functions
such
as
seat
heating
or
rear
windowheating
require
a
great
deal
of
energy
and
injcrease
fuel
consumption,
especially
in
city
traffic
and
stop-and-go
traffic.
Switch
these
functions
off
if
they
are
not
rej
quired.
The
ECO
PRO
drive
mode
supports
energy-savj
ing
use
of
comfort
functions.
These
functions
are
automatically
deactivated
wholly
or
partially.Have

Using
the
hybrid
system efficiently
Principle
The
hybrid
system
of
the
vehicle
works
automatj ically.
By
precautionary
driving,
the
hybrid
propjerties
are
used
efficiently,
in
other
words
fuelconsumption
and
energy
recuperation
are
optij
mised.
Optimising
energy
recuperation Types
of
energy
recuperation
The
energy
recuperation
is
for
charging
the
high- voltage
battery.
Energy
recuperation
is
importantfor
supplying
the
electrical
components
and
therefore
is
a
requirement
for
saving
fuel.
Energy
recuperation
acts
in
three
stages
when
coasting
and
braking:
'xSlight
energy
recuperation:
when
rolling
withj out
pressing
the
brake.'xModerate
energy
recuperation:
slight
decelj
eration
by
gently
pressing
the
brake.'xMaximum

recuperation:
by
pressing the
brake
somewhat
more

regularly
Use
the
navigation
system
even

routes
that
you
are
used
to
driving
regularly.
With
active route
guidance
of
the
navigation
system,
the
hyjbrid
system
uses
the
navigation
data
available.
The
section
of
the
route
ahead
is
analysed.
The
hybrid
engine
adapts
to
the
specific
sections
of
the
route.
The
function
may
be
limited
if
the
navigation
data is
invalid,
outdated
or
not
available,
for
example.
ECO
PRO
Principle
ECO
PRO
supports
an
efficient
driving
style.
To do
this,
the
engine
management
and
comfort functions,
such
as
for
example
the
air
conditionjing
power,
are
adjusted.
The
engine
is
disconnected
from
the
gearbox
and
the
engine
stopped
in
selector
lever
posij
tion
D
under
certain
circumstances.

displayed
which
help
you
to
drive

the

charging
station.
Charging
at
a
domestic
socket
outlet
Before
first
charging
on
your
own
domestic socket
outlet,
and
for
charging
on
other
domestic
socket
outlets,
it
is
necessary
for
the
permitted
charging
current
intensity
to
be
established,
which
can
be
done
by
an
electrician,
for
example.
The
charging
current
intensity
for
charging
at
a domestic
socket
outlet,
see
page
318,
can
be
adapted
on
the
vehicle
in
three
levels.
When
supplied,
the
charging
current
for
charging at
a
domestic
socket
outlet
is
set
to
the
lowestlevel.
One
of
several
amp
ratings
is
printed
on
the mode

charging
cable,

on

naj tional-market
version.
This
amp
value
is
the
limitobserved
by
the
vehicle
