Driving
through
excessively
deep
water
too
fast
can
result
in
water
entering
the
engine
comj partment,
electrical
system
or
transmission.

is

maximum water
depth
and
speed
specified
above.
Safe
braking
GeneralThe
vehicle
is
equipped
with
the
Anti-lock
Brake
System
ABS
as
standard.
Perform
full
braking
in
situations
that
require
it.
The
vehicle
remains
steerable.
Any
obstacles
can
be
avoided
by
steering
as
smoothly
as
possij
ble.
A
pulsing
of
the
brake
pedal
shows
that
the
Anti- lock
Brake
System
ABS
is
regulating.
In
certain
braking
situations,
the
perforated
brake
discs
can
cause
functional
noise.
However,
the functional
noises
have
no
effect
on
the
efficiencyand
operational
safety
of
the
brakes.
Objects
in
the
range
of
movement
of
the
pedals
WARNING
Objects
in
the
driver's
footwell
can
restrict
the pedal
travel
or
block
a
pedal
that
has
been
pressed.
There
is
a
risk
of
accident.
Stow
items
in
the
vehicle
so
that
they
are
secure
and
canj
not
get
into
the
driver's
footwell.
Only
use
floor
mats
that
are
suitable
for
the
vehicle
and
can
be
securely
fastened
to
the
floor.
Do
not
use
loose
floor
mats,
and
do
not
place
several
floor
mats
on
top
of
one
another.
Make
sure
that
there
is
sufficient
space
for
the
pedals.
Ensure
that
floor
mats
are
securely
reattached
after
rej
moval,
for
example
for
cleaning.
Wet
roads
In
wet
weather,
on
gritted
roads
and
in
heavy
rain,
apply
the
brakes
lightly
every
few
kilomej
tres/miles.
Ensure
that
you
do
not
obstruct
other
road
users
when
doing
so.
The
heat
generated
by
braking
dries
the
brake
discs
and
brake
pads
and
protects
them
against corrosion.
This
way,
brake
power
is
available
immediately, whenever
it
is
needed.
Downhill
gradients General
When
driving
on
long
or
steep
downhill stretches,
use
the
gear
in
which
the
least
braking
is
required.
Otherwise
the
brake
system
can
overheat
and
the
braking
effect
is
reduced.
Engine
braking
effect
can
be
additionally
inj
creased
by
manually
shifting
down,
even
into
first
gear,
if
applicable.
Safety
notes
WARNING
Even
slight
but
continuous
pressure
on
the
brake
pedal
can
cause
overheating,
brake
pad wear
or
even
brake
system
failure.
There
is
a
risk
of
accident.
Avoid
excessive
loads
on
the
brake.
WARNING
When
idling
or
with

engine
switched
off, safety-relevant
functions,
for
example
engine braking
effect
or
steering
and

brake

air
conditioning
is

condensation
develops
and
exits

neath
the
vehicle.
Ground
clearance
NOTE
If
there
is
insufficient
ground
clearance
at
curb
edges
or
when
driving
into
underground
car parks,
for
example,
some
vehicle
parts
m
spoilj
ers,
for
example
m
may
come
into
contact
with the
ground.
There
is

of

Make
sure
that
there
is
sufficient
ground

or
fail
completely.

drive
the

limit
range
for
too
long.
Be
aware
of

signs

fuel
consumption
General
The

Fuel
consumption
depends
on
various
factors.
A
number
of
measures,
such
as
a
moderate
drivj ing
style
and
regular
maintenance,
can
influence
fuel
consumption
and
reduce
the
burden
on
the
environment.
Remove
unnecessary
loadsExtra
weight
increases
fuel
consumption.
Remove
add-on
accessories
after
use
Add-on
accessories
on
the
vehicle
can
adversely
affect
its
aerodynamic
performance
and
increase fuel
consumption.
Close
windows Open
windows
increase
drag
and

Tyres
GeneralTyres
can
have
differing
effects
on
fuel
conj
sumption
figures.
The
tyre
size,
for
example,
can
influence
how
much
fuel
a
vehicle
uses.
Check
tyre
inflation
pressure
regularly
Check
and,
if
necessary,
correct
the
tyre
inflation
pressures
at
least
twice
a
month
and
before
setj
ting
off
on
a
longer
journey.
Insufficient
tyre
inflation
pressure
increases
rollj
ing
resistance
and
consequently
fuel
consumpj
tion
and
tyre
wear.
Drive
off
immediatelyDo
not
warm
up
the
engine
with
the
vehicle
at
a
standstill,
but
instead
set
off
straight
away,
drivj ing
at
moderate
engine
speeds.
This
brings
the
cold
engine
up
to
operating
temj perature
as
quickly
as
possible.
Think
ahead
Anticipating
the
road
situation
and
adopting
a
smooth
driving
style
will
reduce
fuel
consumpj
tion.
Avoid
accelerating
and
braking
unnecessarily.
Keep
an
appropriate
distance
from
the
vehicle

Avoid
high
engine
speeds
Driving
at
low
engine
speeds
reduces
fuel

sumption
and

point
indicator

Make
use
of
overrun
modeWhen
approaching
a
red
traffic
light,
take
yourfoot
off
the
accelerator
and
allow
the
vehicle
tocoast
to

stop.
On
downward
stretches,
take
your
foot
off
the accelerator
and
allow

vehicle
to
roll.
The
fuel
supply
is
interrupted
in
overrun
mode.
Switch
off
the
engine
if
stopping
for
longer
periods
Stopping
the
engine
When
you
stop
the
vehicle
for
longer
periods,
for
example
at
traffic
lights,
railway
crossings
or
in traffic
jams,
switch
off
the
engine.
Auto
Start
Stop
function
The
Auto
Start
Stop
function
of
the
vehicle
shuts
off
the
engine
automatically
during
a
stop.
If
the
engine
is
switched
off
and
then
started again,
the
fuel
consumption
and
emissions
arereduced
compared
with
a
permanently
running
engine.
Savings
can
be
made
just
by
stopping
the
engine
for
a
few
seconds.
Fuel
consumption
also
depends
on
other
factors,
such
as
driving
style,
road
condition,
maintej
nance
or
environmental
factors,
for
example.
Switch
off
functions
which
are
not
currently
required
Functions
such
as
seat
heating
or
rear
window
heating
require
a
great
deal
of
energy
and
inj crease
fuel
consumption,
especially
in
city
traffic
and
stop-and-go
traffic.
Switch
these
functions
off
if
they
are
not
rej
quired.
Have
maintenance
work
carried
out
Have
the
vehicle
serviced
regularly
to
achieve
optimal
economy
and
lifetime.

the
filler
nozzle
during

elling
results
in
the
following:

supply
of
fuel
is
stopped
too

vapour
recovery
is
less
effective.
The
fuel
tank
is
full
when
the
filler
nozzle
cuts
out for
the
first
time.
Please
comply
with
the
safety
regulations

played
at
filling
stations.
Safety
notes
NOTE
If
the
range
drops
below
50
km,
30
miles,
the
engine
may
no
longer
be
supplied
with
suffij
cient
fuel.
Engine
function

retaining
strap

the
fuel
tank
cap
may

come
trapped

crushed

turning
the
cap

close
it.

not
be
possible
to
close
the
cap
properly.
Fuel

fuel
vapours
can
leak
out.
There
is
a

injury
or

Make
sure
that
the
retaining
strap

not
get
trapped

cap

clockwise

release

Check
the
tyre
inflation
pressure
regularly
and
adjust
as
necessary,

example
twice
a
month
or
before
any

Tyre
inflation
pressure
information
On
the
door
pillar
The
tyre
inflation
pressures
are
shown
on
the
door
pillar
of
the
driver's
door.
The
tyre
inflation
pressure
data
is
valid
for
the
tyre
sizes
and
recommended
tyre
makes
which
have
been
rated
by
the
vehicle
manufacturer
as suitable
for
the
vehicle
concerned.
If
the
tyre's
speed
code
cannot
be
found,
then
the
tyre
inflation
pressure
for
the
corresponding
tyre
size
applies.
The
tyre
inflation
pressures
stated
for
the
rej
spective
load
conditions
apply
depending
on
the
vehicle's
actual
load
condition.
Example:
for
a partially
loaded
vehicle,
the
optimum
tyre
inflationpressure
is
the
one
stated
for
a
partially
loaded
vehicle.
