light
functions
consist
of
one

systems,
depending
on
the
equipment

Activating
Press
the
button
on
the
light
switch

ment.
The
LED
in
the
button
illuminates. The
adaptive
light
functions
are
active
when
drive-ready
state
is
switched
on.
Adaptive
Headlights
General The
headlight
beams
follow
the
road
ahead
in
rejsponse
to
the
steering
angle
and
other
paramej
ters.
To
prevent
dazzling
oncoming
vehicles,
the Adaptive
Headlights
do
not
swivel
to
the
oppoj
site
side
of
the
road
when
stationary.
If
the
headlights
are
converted,
see
page
180,
the
Adaptive
Headlights
may
only
function
to
a
limited
extent.
Anticipatory
headlights
for
bends
The
beams
are
adapted
to
the
direction
of
the
road
ahead
even
before
entering
or
leaving
a bend.
Headlights
for
S-bends The
beams
are
kept
as
straight
as
possible
when
driving
around
S-bends.
Headlights
for
hairpin
bends
The
cornering
light
is
also
switched
on
before
entering
hairpin
bends.
Variable
light
distribution
Principle
Variable
light
distribution
illuminates
the
road
even
more
effectively.
General The
light
distribution
is
automatically
adapted
tothe
speed.
If
equipment
includes
a
navigation
system,
the
light
distribution
is
automatically
adapted
dej pending
on
the
navigation
data
and
speed.
City
light The
light
beam
from
the
low-beam
headlights
is
extended
at
the
sides.
Motorway
beam
pattern The
range
of
the
low-beam
headlights
is
inj
creased.
Cornering
light
In
sharp
turns
up
to
a
specified
speed,
for
examj
ple
in
hairpin
bends
or
when
turning
off,
a
cornerj ing
light
is
added
to
illuminate
the
inside
area
ofthe
bend.
The
cornering
light
is
activated
automatically
dej
pending
on
the
steering
angle
or
use
of
the
turn indicators,
where
applicable.
When
reversing,
the
cornering
light
may
be
actij vated
automatically
irrespective
of
the
steeringangle.

Roundabout
light
Shortly
before
driving
onto
a
roundabout,
the
cornering
light
on
both
sides
is
switched
on.
The
edge
of
the
road
is
illuminated
more
effectively.
Shortly
before
leaving
a
roundabout,
the
cornerj ing
light
on
both
sides
is
switched
off
again.
Adaptive
headlight
beam throw
adjustment
Adaptive
headlight
beam
throw
adjustment
comjpensates
for
acceleration
and
braking
manoeuj
vres
and
vehicle
load
conditions
to
prevent
onj coming
vehicles
from
being
dazzled.
Illumination
of
the
road
is
optimised.
High-beam
assistance
Principle
High-beam
assistance
detects
other
road
users
in
good
time
and
activates
or
deactivates
the high
beam
depending
on
the
traffic
situation.
General High-beam
assistance
ensures
that
the
high-beam
headlights
are
switched
on
when
the
traffic
situation
allows.
The
high-beam
headlights
are
not
switched
on
by
the
system
at
low
speeds.
The
system
responds
to
the
lights
from
oncomj
ing
traffic
and
traffic
driving
ahead
of
you,
and
to
ambient
lighting,
for
example
in
built-up
areas.
The
high-beam
headlights
can
be
switched
on
and
off
manually
at
any
time.
If
no-dazzle
high-beam
assistance
is
installed,
the
high-beam
headlights
are
not
switched
off
for
oncoming
vehicles
or
vehicles
driving
ahead
of
you;
instead,
the
system
masks
those
areas
of
the
beam
which
would
otherwise
dazzle
oncomj
ing
traffic
or
traffic
driving
ahead.
In
this
case,
the
blue
indicator
lamp
continues
to
illuminate.

converted,

high-beam
assistance
may
only
function
to
a limited
extent.

LED

button

indicator
lamp

instrument
cluster
is
illuminated
when
the
low-beam headlights
are
switched
on.
The
system
will
switch
automatically
between
low-beam
and
high-beam
headlights.
The
blue
indicator
lamp
in
the
instrument
cluster
illuminates
if
the
high
beam
is
switched
on
by
the
system.
If
a
journey
is
interrupted
with
high-beam
assisj
tance
activated:
when
the
journey
is
resumed,
high-beam
assistance
remains
activated.
The
high-beam
assistant
is
deactivated
by switching
the
high
beams
on
and
off
manually.
To
reactivate
high-beam
assistance,
press
the
button
on
the
turn
indicator
lever.

assistance
cannot
replace
the
drivj
er's
own
judgement
as
to
when
to
use
the
high- beam
headlights.
Therefore
activate
the
dipped
headlights
manually
if
the
situation
requires
it.
In
the
following
situations,
the
system
will
not
opjerate
or
its
operation
will
be
impaired
and
yourintervention
may
be
required:

extremely
adverse
weather
conditions
suchas
fog
or
heavy
precipitation.'xWhen
detecting
poorly
lit
road
users
such
aspedestrians,
cyclists
or
horse
riders
or
carjriages
and
when
trains
or
ships
are
close
tothe
road,
or
when
animals
are
crossing
the

tight
bends,
on
steep
brows
or
hollows

hills,
when
there
is
crossing
traffic
or
if
the
view
of
oncoming
vehicles
on
a
motorway
is

area

windscreen

front

rear-

covered

Principle
The
beam
throw
of
the
high-beam
headlights
is
increased
for
even
better
illumination
of
the
road
surface.
General
When
high-beam
headlights
are
switched
on,
laj
ser
high-beam
headlight
is
switched
on
automatj ically
in
addition
to
LED
high-beam
headlightfrom
a
speed
of
approximately
60
km/h,
37
mph.
Depending
on
the
country
variant,
additional
inj
formation
can
be
found
on
the
laser
information
notice
on
the
headlights.
Fog
lights
Rear
fog
light
Operating
requirements The
low-beam
headlights
must
be
switched
on
before
the
rear
fog
light
can
be
activated.
Switching
on/off Press
the
button.
The
yellow
indicator
lamp
in
the
instruj
ment
cluster
is
illuminated
when
the
rear
fog
light
is
switched
on.
If
automatic
driving
lights
control
has

vated,
the
low-beam
headlights

Even
if
all
this
information

observed,
injuries

contact
with
the
airbag
cannot
be
entirely
ruled
out
in
some
circumstances.
The
noise
caused
by
the
deployment
of
an

bag

lead
to
temporary
hearing
loss
in
vehij
cle
occupants
sensitive
to
noise.
