zIf the moving wipers become blocked byice or other deposits on the glass, themotor may burn out even if the wiperswitch is turned to OFF. If obstructionoccurs, park your vehicle in a safe place,stop the Plug-in Hybrid EV System, andclean the deposits from the glass so thatthe wipers operate smoothly.zDo not use the wipers when the glass isdry.They may scratch the glass surface andthe blades wear out prematurely.zBefore using the wipers in cold weather,check that the wiper blades are not frozenonto the glass. The motor may burn out ifthe wipers are used with the blades frozenonto the glass.zAv o i d u s i n g t h e w a s h e r c o n t i n u o u s l y f o rmore than 20 seconds. Do not operate thewasher when the fluid reservoir is empty.Otherwise, the motor may burn out.
zPeriodically check the level of washerfluid in the reservoir and refill if required.During cold weather, add a recommendedwasher solution that will not freeze in thewasher reservoir. Failure to do so couldresult in loss of washer function and frostdamage to the system components.

The rear window demister switch can beoperated when the Plug-in Hybrid EV Systemis operating.When the front wipers have frozen to thewindscreen at the parked positions, turningon this switch will heat the windscreen tomake the wipers operable. Press the rear win-dow demister switch and the deicer will oper-ate.

The rear window demister switch can beoperated when the operation mode of thepower switch is in ON.Push the switch to turn on the rear windowdemister. It will be turned off automatically inabout 15 to 20 minutes depending on the out-side temperature. To turn off the demisterwhile it is operating, push the switch again.The indicator lamp (A) will illuminate whilethe demister is on.

zIf the operation mode is in ON or ACC andthe headlamps are on,

Changing the operation mode
CAUTIONzWhen the Plug-in Hybrid EV System is notoperating, put the operation mode in OFF.Leaving the operation mode in ON or ACCfor a long time when the Plug-in Hybrid EVSystem is not operating may cause the auxil-iary battery to be discharged, making itimpossible to start the Plug-in Hybrid EVSystem. zWhen the auxiliary battery is disconnected,the current operation mode is memorized.After reconnecting the auxiliary battery, thememorized mode is selected automatically.Before disconnecting the auxiliary batteryfor repair or replacement, make sure to putthe operation mode in OFF. Be careful if you are not sure which opera-tion mode the vehicle is in when the auxil-iary battery is run down.zThe operation mode ca
nnot be changed from
OFF to ACC or ON if the keyless operationkey is not detected to be in the vehicle. Referto “Keyless operation system: operatingrange for starting the Plug-in Hybrid EVSystem and changing

to the vehicles.
zKeep sparks, cigarettes and flames awayfrom the battery because the battery mayproduce an explosion.CAUTIONzThe Plug-in Hybrid EV system cannot bestarted by pulling or pushing the vehicle.zCheck the other vehicle.
It must have a 12-
volt battery. If the other system isn’t 12-volt,shorting can damage
both vehicles.
zUse the proper cables suitable for the batterysize to prevent overhea
ting of the cables.
zCheck the jumper cables for damage and cor-rosion before use.zAlways wear protect
ive eye goggles when
working near the battery.zKeep the battery out of the reach of children.zDo not attempt jump starting the auxiliarybattery while the drive battery is beingcharged. Doing so could damage the vehicleor charging equipment.NOTE
zIf the auxiliary battery is disconnected, theoperation mode of the power switch is mem-orized. When a booster
battery is connected
by jumper cables, the operation mode returnsto the state before the auxiliary battery rundown.Pay due attention if you do not know theoperation mode before

was fully discharged.zIf the auxiliary battery is fully dischargedwith the select position in the “P” (PARK)position, the select position cannot bechanged to other position from the “P”(PARK) position in some cases. 7. Start the engine in the vehicle which hasthe booster battery, let the engine idle afew minutes, then start the Plug-in HybridEV system in your vehicle.8. Check that the ready indicator illuminates.If the ready indicator does not illuminate,contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point.9. When the ready indicator illuminates, dis-connect the jumper cables in the reverseorder of connection.
10. Check that the select position can be
shifted to all positions other than the “P”(PARK) position.
11. Have the auxiliary battery inspected by
your nearest MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point.

When the engine is overheating, the informa-tion screen in the multi information displaywill be interrupted and the engine coolanttemperature warning display will appear.If this occurs, take the following correctivemeasures:1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
2. Hot water could spurtout even when there is no steam comingout, and some parts will be very hot. Bevery careful when opening the bonnet.zBe careful of hot steam, which could beblowing off the reserve tank cap.zDo not attempt to remove the radiator capwhile the engine is hot.
