Menus and submenus
Menu overview
Operating the on-board computer (Y page 180).
Depending on the equipment installed in the vehicle, you can call up the following menus:

The Audio ,
Navi and
Tel menus differ slightly in vehicles with Audio 20 and in vehicles with
COMAND. The examples given in this Operator's Manual apply to vehicles equipped with
COMAND. Trip menu
Standard display X
Press and hold the %button on the
steering wheel until the Trip menu with

The values in the From Start submenu are
calculated from the start of a journey whilst
the values in the From Reset submenu are
calculated from the last time the submenu
was reset (Y page 183).
The From Start trip computer is
automatically reset when:
R The ignition has been switched off for more
tha nfour hours.
R 999 hours have been exceeded.
R 9,999 miles have been exceeded.
The From Reset trip computer is
automatically reset if the value exceeds
9,999 hours or 99,999 miles. 182

ECO display
Example

X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to selec tthe Trip menu.
X Press the 9or: button to select
ECO DISPLAY .
If the ignition remains switched off for longer
than four hours, the ECO display will be
automatically reset.

Displaying the range and current fuel
consumption :

Approximate range :is calculated
according to current driving style and the
amount of fuel in the tank. If there is only a
small amount of fuel left in the fuel tank, the
display shows a vehicle being refueled C

Resetting values Example: resetting the trip computer "From Start"
You can reset the values of the following
functions:

Trip odometer
R "From Start" trip computer
R "From Reset" trip computer
R ECO display
X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Trip menu.
X Press the 9or: button to select the
function that you wish to reset.
X Press the abutton.
X Press the :button to select Yes and
press the abutton to confirm.
i When you reset the values in the "ECO
display", the values in the trip computer
"From start" are likewise reset. When you
reset the values in the trip computer "From
start", the values in the "ECO display"are

Switch on Audio 20 with Becker ®

X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Navi menu.
In the Navi menu, the multifunction display
shows navigation instructions. For more
information, see the separate operating
instructions.

When a change of direction has been
announced, you will see visual distance
display ;next to the symbol for change of
direction =.This shortens from the bottom
to the top of the display as you approach the
point of the announced change of direction.

On multilane roads, the system can display
lane recommendation =for the next change
of direction. During the change of direction,
additional lanes may be displayed.
Lane recommendations are only displayed if
the relevant data is available on the digital

Operating audio player or audio media CD changer display (example)

Audio data from various audio devices or
media can be played, dependin gonthe

X Switch on the audio system or COMAND
and activate audio CD/DVDm ode or MP3
mode; see the separate operating
instructions.
X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Audio menu.
X To select the next/previous track:
briefly press the 9or: button.
X To select a track from the track list
(rapid scrolling): press and hold the
9 or: button until desired
track ;has been reached.
If you press and hold 9or:, the
rapid scrolling speed is increased. Not all
audio drives or data carriers support this
function.
If track information is stored on the audio
device or medium, the multifunction display
will show the number and title of the track.
The current track does not appear in audio Menus and submenus

WARNING
The driver's attentio nto the road must always
be his/her primary focus when driving. For
your safety and the safety of others, we
recommend that you pull over to a safe
location and stop before placing or taking a
telephone call. If you choose to use the
telephone while driving, please use the hands-
free device and only use the telephone when
road, weather and traffic conditions permit.
Some jurisdictions prohibit the driver from
using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just 30 mph
(approximately 50 km/h) , your vehicle covers a distance of 44 feet (approximately 14 m)
every second.
X Switch on your mobile phone and audio
system or COMAND, see the separate
operating instructions.
X Establish a Bluetooth ®
connection to the
audio system or COMAND; see the
separate operating instructions.
X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Tel menu.
You will see one of the following display
messages in the multifunction display:
R Phone READY or the name of the network
provider :the mobile phone has found a
network and is ready to receive.
R Phone No Service : there is no network
available or the mobile phone is searching
for a network.
Accepting acall Example: incoming call

Press the 6button on the steering
wheel to accep tanincoming call.
If someone calls you when you are in the
Tel menu, a display message appears in the
multifunctio ndisplay.
You can accept a call even if you are not in
the Tel menu.
Rejecting or ending acall X
Press the ~button on the steering
wheel.
You can end or reject a call even if you are not
in the Tel menu.186

Dialing a number from the phone book

Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to selec tthe Tel menu.
X Press the 9,:ora button to
switch to the phone book.
X Press the 9or: button to select the
desired name.
To start scrolling rapidly,p ress and hold the
9 or: button for longer than one
second.
Rapid scrolling stops when you release the
button or reach the end of the list.
X If onlyo ne telephone number is stored
for a name: press the6ora button
to start dialing.
or
X If there is more than one number for a
particular name: press the6ora
button to display the numbers.
X Press the 9or: button to select the
number you want to dial.
X Press the 6ora button to start
dialing.
or
X If you do not want to make a call: press
the ~ or% button.
Redialing The on-board computer saves the last names
or numbers dialed in the redial memory.

Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Tel menu.
X Press the 6button to switch to the
redial memory.
X Press the 9or: button to select the
desired name or number.
X Press the 6ora button to start
dialing.

X If you do not want to make a call: press

Showing the distance display X
Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 9or: button to select
Distance Display .

The DISTRONIC PLUS distance display
appears in the multifunction display
(Y page 155).
Deactivating/activating ESP ® Further information about ESP

X Start the engine.
X Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.

ESP .

cluster lights up.

cluster goes out.
Switching the distance warning
function on and off X
Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.
X Press 9or: to select Dist. Warning .
X Press the abutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press thea
button again.
Whe nthe distance warning function is
activated, the multifunction display shows
the Ä symbol if the HOLD function is not
activated (Y page 160).
Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: if
PARKTRONIC is activated and you are driving
at a speed under 22 mph (35 km/h), the j
Active Parking Assist symbol is shown instead
of the Äsymbol (Y page 164).

Activating/deactivating ATTENTION
ASSIST X
Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.
X Press the 9or: button to select
Attention Asst. .
X Press the abutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press thea
button again. When ATTENTION ASSIST (Y
page 171) is
activated, the Àsymbol appears in the
multifunction display when the ignition is on.
Activating/deactivating Blind Spot
Assist X
Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 9or: button to select
Blind Spot Asst. .
X Press the abutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press thea
button again.
For further information about Blind Spot
Assist, see (Y page 173).
When the Blind Spot Assist: Sensors Deactivated message is shown, the radar
sensors are deactivated.
X Switch on the radar sensor system
(Y page 192).
Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping
Assist X
Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist menu.
X Press the 9or: button to select
Lane Keep. Asst. .
X Press the abutton.
The current selection is displayed.
X Press ato confirm.
X Press the :or9 button to set Off ,
Standard or
Adaptive .
X Press the abutton to save the setting.
If Lane Keeping Assist (Y page 174) is
activated and the ignition is switched on, the
à symbol appears in the multifunction

Service menu
In the
Serv. menu, you have the following
options:

Sett. menu, you have the following
options:
R change the instrument cluster settings
R change the light settings
R change the vehicle settings
R change the convenience settings

You can determine whether the multifunction
display shows some messages in miles or
kilometers.

Press the =or; button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.

Instr. Cluster submenu.

Display Unit Speed-/Odometer: function.
You will see the selected setting:

Switching the additional speedometer on

this function.
