Changing th
esettings of th elocking
system
You can chang ethe settings of th elocking
system. This mea nsthat only the driver' sdoor
and th efuel filler flap are unlocked when the
vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own.
X To change th esetting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery chec klamp flashes twice
(Y page 79).
i If the settin gofthe locki ngsystem is
changed within th esignal range of th evehi-
cle ,pressi ngthe & or% button:
R locks or
R unlock sthe vehicle
The ke ynow functions as follows:
X To unloc kthe drive r'sdoor: press the
% button once.
X To unlock cen trally:pressthe % but-
to nt wice.
X To lock centrally: pressthe & button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock th edriver's doo r:touch the
inner surface of the doo rhandle on the
driver' sdoor.
X To unlock centrally: touch theinner sur-
fac eo fthe door handle on th efront-
passenger door or th erear door.
X To lock centrally: touch theouter sensor
surface on one of the door handles
(Y page 77).
X To restor ethe facto rysettings: press
and hold down the %and& buttons
simulta neousl yfor appr oximate ly six sec-
onds until th ebatter ychec klamp flashes

unlock and open the driver' sdoor, the anti-
thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 71).
There are several ways to tur noff th ealarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the key: press
the % or& buttonont he key.
or
X Insert the key int othe ignition lock.
or
X To deactivat ethe alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press th eStart/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler fla pwilln ot be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlock th efuel fil lerf lap: insert the
key into the ignition lock.

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the batteries replaced at aqualified specialist
workshop. Checking the battery X
Press the &or% button.
The battery is working properly if battery
check lamp :lights up briefly.
The battery is discharge difbattery check
lamp :does not light up briefly.
X Change the battery (Y page 79).
i If the key battery is checked within the
signal reception range of the vehicle, press-
ing the &or% button:
R locks or
R unlocks the vehicle
i You can get abattery at any qualified spe-
cialist workshop.

opening in the key in the direction of the

X Repeatedly tap the key agains tyour palm
until battery =falls out.
X Inser tthe new battery with the positive ter-
minal facin gupwards. Use alint-free cloth
to do so.
X Make sure that the surface of the battery is
free from lint, grease and all other form sof
contamination.
X Insert the front tabs of battery compart-
ment cover :into the housing and then
pres stoc lose it.
X Insert emergenc ykey element ;into the
key.
X Check the function of all key button sonthe

X Hav eKEYLESS-GO checked at aqualified specialist workshop.
If this does not work:
X Check the key battery (Y page 79) and replace it if necessary
(Y page 79).
X Lock (Y page 84) or unlock (Y page 85) the vehicle using
the emergency key element. You have lost
akey. X
Hav ethe key deactivated at aqualified specialist workshop.
X Report the loss immediately to the vehicle insurers.
X If necessary, have the locks changed as well. You have lost the emer-

WARNING
Only fo rthe Unite dKingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key or with KEY-
LESS-GO, the double lock func tion is activa-
ted as standard. It is then not possible to open
the doors from inside the vehicle.
Therefore, do not leav eany people behind in
the vehicle, particularly children, elderly peo-
ple or people requiring special assistance .As
ar esult, they may not be able to free them-
selves in the event of an emergency. They
could be seriously or even fatally injured by
prolonged exposur etoextremely hig horlow
tempera tures, for example. In this case ,res-
cuin gpeople from outside the vehicle is diffi-
cult.
Deac tivate the interior motion sensor before
you lock the vehicle .The doors can then be
opened from the insid eafter the vehicl ehas
been locked from the outside. G
WARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
R open adoor from inside the vehicle at any
time, even if it has been locked
R star tthe vehicle usin gakey which has been
left in the vehicle
R release the electric parking brake
They could thereby endanger themselves and
others. Never leave children unsupervised in
the vehicle. Alway stake the key with you
when leaving the vehicle, even if you are only
leaving it for ashort time. Unlocking and opening th
edoors
from the inside
For all countries except the United King-
dom: you can open adoor from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
If the vehicle has been locked with the key or
with KEYLESS -GO, opening adoor from the
inside will trigger the anti-thef talarm system.

United Kingdom only:
if the vehiclehas
been locked with the key or with KEYLESS-
GO, the double lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle. Deactivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle. The doors can then be
opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside .The anti-theft
alar msystem is triggered if the doo ris
opened from the inside. Swit choff the alarm
(Y page 71).
You can only open the rea rdoors from inside
the vehicle if they ar enot secured by the
child-proof lock s(Ypage 60). X

You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The buttons are located on
both fron tdoors. :

If the front-passenger door is closed, the
vehicle locks.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler fla pwill not be
locked or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from
the inside if the vehicle has been locked with
the key or KEYL ESS-GO.
For all countries except the United King-
dom: you can ope nadoor from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
Unite dKingdom only: if the vehicle has
been locked with the key or with KEYL ESS-
GO, the double lock function is activate das
standard. It is then not possible to open the
door sfrom insid ethe vehicle. Deac tivate the
interior motion sensor (Y page 72) before you
lock the vehicle .The doors can then be
opened from the insid eafter th evehicle has
been locked from the outside.
If the vehicle has been locked using the lock-
ing button for the central locki ng,orh as been
locked automatically, and adoor is opened
from the inside:
R the vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had
previously been fully unlocked.
R only the door which has been opened from
the inside is unlocked if only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked. Doors

The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignitio nisswitched on and the wheels are
turning.
You could therefore be locked out if:
R the vehicle is being pushed.
R the vehicle is being towed.
R the vehicle is being tested on adynamom-
eter.
You can also switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board com-
puter (Y page 283). Powe

WARNING
Make sure tha tnobody can becom etrapped
as you close the doors and tailgate.
If there is adanger of being trapped, pull the
door handle on the inside or outside or pull
the tailgate handle. Do not activate the power closin
gfeature by
tam pering with th elock mechanism .You
coul dotherwis einjure yourself. G
WARNING
Make sure that the doors and tailgate are
alway sfully closed .Otherwise, adoor or the
tailgate coul dopen durin gthe journey and
endanger you or others.
The power closin gfeatur epulls the doors and
tailgate into their locks automatically even if
they are only partly closed.
X Power closin gfeatu re(doors): push the
door up to the first detent position in the
lock.
The power closing featur ewill pull the door
fully closed.
X Power closing tailga te:gentl ypush the
tailgate closed.
The power closing feature will pull the tail-
gate fully closed. Unlockin
gthe driver' sdoor (emer-
gency key element)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the key, use the emergenc ykey element.
If you use the emergenc ykey elemen tto
unlock and open the driver' sdoor, the anti-
thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 71).
X Take the emergenc ykey elemen tout of the
key (Y page 78).
X Insert the emergenc ykey elemen tinto the
lock of the driver's doo rasfar as it will go. 84

X Turn the emergenc ykey elemen tback and
remove it.
X Insert the emergenc ykey elemen tinto the

If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
key, use the emergenc ykey element.
X Open the driver' sdoor.
X Close the front-passenger door, the rear
doors and the tailgate.
X Press the lockin gbutton (Y page 83).
X Check whether the locking knobs on the
front-passenger door and the rear doors
are still visible. Press down the locking
knobs manually, if necessary (Y page 82).
X Close the driver' sdoor.
X Take the emergenc ykey elemen tout of the
key (Y page 78).
X Insert the emergenc ykey elemen tinto the
lock of the driver's doo rasfar as it will go. 1

as far as it will go to position 1.
i On right-hand-driv evehicles, tur nthe
emergenc ykey elemen tanti-clockwise.
X Turn the emergenc ykey elemen tback and
remove it.
X Make sure that the doors and the tailgate
are locked.
X Insert the emergenc ykey elemen tinto the
key.
i If you lock the vehicl easdescribed above,
the fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-

If the engine is runnin gand the tailgate is
open, exhaus tgases can enter the vehicle
interior .This coul dresult in poisoning. There-
fore, mak esure that the tailgat eisalways
closed when th eengine is running.
! The tailgate swi ngsu pwards and to the
rear when opened. Therefore, mak esure
that there is sufficient clearanc eabove and
behin dthe tailgate.
