environmental protection.
The objectives are for the natural resources
which form the basis of our existence on this
plane ttobeu sed sparingl yand in amanner
which takes the requirements of both nature
and humanity into account.
You too can help to protect the environment
by operating your vehicle in an environmen-
tally responsible manner.
Fuel consumption and the rate of engine,
transmission, brake and tyre wear depend on
the following factors:
R operating conditions of your vehicle
R your personal driving style
You can influence both factors. You should
bear the following in mind:
Operating conditions:
R avoid short trips as these increase fuel con-
sumption.
R make sure that the tyre pressures are
always correct.
R do not carr yany unnecessary weight.
R keep an eye on the vehicle's fuel consump-
tion.
R remove roof racks once you no longer need
them.
R ar egularly serviced vehicle will contribute
to environmental protec tion. You should
therefor eadhere to the service inter vals.
R always have maintenance work carried out
at aq ualified specialist workshop ,e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Personal driving style:
R do not depress the accelerator pedal when
starti ngthe engine.
R do not warm up the engine with the vehicle
stationary. R
drive carefully and maintain asafe distance
from the vehicle in front.
R avoid frequent, sudden acceleration.
R change gear in good time and use each gear
only up to Ôof its maximum engine speed.
R switch off the engine in stationary traffic. Returning end-of-life vehicles

design which allows for recycling and reuse.

ner. The options for recycling vehicles and
parts are constantly being develope dand
improved .This means that your Mercedes-
Ben zwill also continue to meet even the
increased recycling quotas in the futur ein

This Owner's Manual describes all models
and all standard and optional equipment of
your vehicle available at the time of publica-
tion of the Owner's Manual. Country-specific
differences are possible. Pleas enote that
your vehicle ma ynot be equipped with all fea-
tures described. This also applies to safety-
relevant system sand functions .The equip-

that shown in the descriptions and illustra-

WARNING
All wor konthe vehicle and, in particular ,work
relevant to safet yoronsafety-related sys-
tems must be carried out at aqualified spe-
cialist workshop. The specialist workshop
must have the necessary specialist knowl-
edge and tools to carry out the work required.
Mercedes -Benz recommends that you use a
Mercedes-Benz Ser vice Centre for thi spur-
pose. G
WARNING
Some safety systems only function when the
engine is running. You should therefore never
switch off the engine when driving. Otherwise,
the safety systems of your vehicle may not
function correctly and as aresult will no lon-
ger protec tyou and other person sasinten-
ded .Ina ddition, there is arisk that you may
lose control of your vehicle and thus cause an
accident. G
WARNING
Work carried out incorrectly, or alterations
made to the vehicle, e.g. re-routing of cables
under coverings, could cause the safety sys-
tems of your vehicle to stop working properly.
The safety systems would thus no longer pro-
tect you and other persons as intended. In
addition, there is arisk that you may lose con-
trol of your vehicle and thus cause an acci-
dent.

WARNING
If work on electronic equipmen tand its soft-
ware is carried out incorrectly, this equipment
could stop working. The electronic systems
are networ kedv ia interfaces. Tampering with
these electronic systems could cause mal-
func tions in system swhich hav enot been
modified. Malfunction ssuch as these can
seriously jeopardis ethe vehicle' soperating
safety and therefore your own safety.
You should therefore have all work and mod-
ifications to electronic components carried
out at aqualified specialist workshop. G
WARNING
If you drive over obstacle sathigh speed or if
the vehicle bottoms out in rough terrain, it
could cause heavy impact stothe vehicle
underbody, tyres or wheels. This coul dcause
your vehicle to be damaged, which in turn
might lead to an accident. This also applies to
vehicles which are equipped with underbody
protection.
You shoul dtherefore drive over obstacles
slowly. Prevent the vehicle from bottoming
out when driving off-road an difnecessar y,
hav eyourvehicle inspected at aqualified spe-

Automotive EMC Directive 95/54/ EC.O per-

thus approved for your vehicle. The equip-

Therefore, adherence to the relevant specifi-
cations for electromagnetic compatibility is
guarantee dfor this device.
As aresult, interferenc ecaused by your
equipment to other electrical/electronic
equipment and interferenc etoyour equip-
men tcaused by other electrical/electronic
equipment can be largely prevented. On-board diagnostic interface

WARNING
If you connect equipment to the on-board
diagnostic interface, it can affect the opera-
tion of the vehicle systems. This can impair
the operating safety of your vehicle while driv-
ing. There is arisk of accident.
Do not connect any equipment to the on-
board diagnostic interface. G
WARNING
Loose equipment or equipment cables which
are connected to the on-board diagnostic
interface may infringe on the space around
the pedals. The equipment or the cables could
get between the pedals in the event of sudden
braking or acceleration .You may then no lon-
ger be able to brake, operate the clutch or
accelerate as intended. There is arisk of acci-
dent.
Do not attach any equipment or cables in the
driver footwell.
Connecting equipment to the on-board diag-
nostic interface can lead to emissions moni-
torin ginformation being reset. Thi smay lead
to the vehicle failing to meet the require-
ment satthe nex temissions con trol test or
main inspec tion. If the engin
eisswitched off and equipment
on the on-board diagnostic interface is used,
the starter battery may discharge.
The on-board diagnostic interface is intended
for the connection of diagnostic equipment at

ard. There are also data storage devices
which recor dthe technical reactions of vehi-
cle component stocertain driving situations (e.g. airbag deployment or ESP

tion).

R help Mercedes -Benz optimise and develop
vehicle fun ctions
The data cannot be used to trac ethe vehicle's
movements.
When your vehicle is serviced by Mercedes-
Ben z,this technical information can be read
out from the fault memory. Thi sisperformed
by authorised employees of the Mercedes-
Benz service network using special diagnos-
tic computers.
Af teraf ault has been rectified, the informa-
tion is deleted from the memory. Other mem-
ory data is constantly overwritten. Other devices tha
tstore data
Depe nding on the equipment level, your vehi-
cle may featur ecommunication sand/or
entertainment systems (e.g .navigation devi-
ces, telephone systems). Thes eallow you to
save and edit data required for the operation
of the respective device.
