The Leaving home functio ns ensures that when unlocking the
vehicle periphery is i lluminated in the dark . In addition, the fron t fog
lights, the tai l lights and the license plate light are turned on. Th is
function can be turned on and off .
High beam
With the switch in the AUTO position, the high beams can be turned
on only if the function is turned
on.

The dayti me running lights can be turned on or off
using this function .
Canada models: The function cannot be turned off. It is activated
automatically each time t he ignition is turned on. This menu item is
shown "greyed out" .•

When you activate the turn signal lever, the Adaptive Light for the
same side is switched on. Please note that the turn signal lever must
engage. Adaptive Light is not switched on if you only move the turn signal
lever to the point of resistance to signal a lane change =>

When driving around bends, Adaptive Light is controlled according
to steering wheel angle .
• It is switched on in tight corners .
• It is not switched on in long, open bends.
Adaptive Light (in curves)
When driving through curves , the low beams @are automatically
controlled depending on driving speed and the steering wheel
angle.
The two main beams pivot at different angles so that there is no
unilluminated area in front of the vehic le .
[ i J Tips
• The system works up to a speed of about 43 mph (70 km/h). If the
speed is higher, it is not activated .
• Adaptive Light (in curves) functions at a speed of about 6 mph
(10 km/h) and is deactivated at speeds below about 4 mph
(6 km/h). •

Emergency flasher ~
The emergency flasher makes other motorists aware that
you or your vehicle are in an emergency situation.

flashers on or off.
When the emergency flasher is on, all four turn signals blink at the same time. The turn signal indicator lights¢¢ in the instrument
cluster, as well as the light in the emergency flasher switch~ blink
likewise.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatica lly if you are in an
accident where the airbag has deployed.

You should turn on the emergency flashers when:
• you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic jam so that any other
vehicles coming can see you, or when
• your vehicle has broken down or you are in an emergency situa
tion, or when
• your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you. •

The turn signal and high beam lever has the follow ing func

- Lift the lever up all the way~ fig. 62 G) to use the r ight
turn signals, or push the lever down all the way@ to use
the left turn signals.
Aut o-blink
- Move the lever (up or down) just to t he point of resis
tance to use the turn signals for as long as you need
them, for example when changing lanes.
- Move the lever (up or down) just to t he point of resis
ta nce and then release it right away to make the turn
signals blink
three times. You can use this feature f or
example when changing lanes on highways.

-Push the lever forward 0 to switch on the high beam.
Pull the lever back towards you to switch off the high
beam.
Headlight flasher ~D
- Pull the lever toward the steering wheel © to use the
headlight flasher.
Notes on these features
• The turn signals only work with the ignition turned on. The indi
cator lights ¢ or¢ in the instrument cluster~ page 16 also blink.
• After you have turned a corner, the turn signal switches off auto
matically.
• The high beam works only when the headlights are on. The indi
cator light ~D in the instrument cluster illuminates when the high
beams are on.
• The headlight flasher works only as long as you hold the lever -
even if there are no lights turned on. The indicator light [Din the
instrument cluster illuminates when you use the headlight flasher.
• With the switch in the
AUTO position, the high beams can only
be turned on if the function is switched on in MMI
~ page 70.

Do not use the high beam or headlight flasher if you know that these
could blind oncoming traffic. •

about 2 minutes after the doors are closed. When the vehicle is

turned off.
When a door is open, the interior lights are turned off after about 10
minutes to prevent draining the battery .

The interior lights can be dimmed by holding the (D switch pressed
down. If the interior lights in the rear were turned on by pressing the
switch twice, the rear interior lights are also dimmed .•

When the vehicle is unlocked, the standard lighting turns on auto
matically and dims after approx. 2 minutes, and when the ignition is
turned on it switches off immediate ly.
A background lighting profile can be switched on manually using
the light profile switch ~
page 76, fig. 68. This wi ll turn off automat
ica lly after 30 minutes when the ignition is off. To reactivate, press
the lighting profile switch.
Lighting profiles that were selected while driving remain active
during the course of travel.
The following lighting profiles can be adjusted and
dimmed in the MMI:

The sun visors for the driver and front passenger can be removed
from their center mountings and moved toward the door windows
G) ~ fig. 69 to protect against side glare. After you have moved the
sun visors so that they are parallel to the door windows, you can pull
out the extensions.
Between the visors for the driver and the passenger there is a
folding visor which can be used to cover the space above the rear
view mirror.

Make-up mirror
The vanity mirrors in the sun visors are equipped with lids. When the
lid is opened
G) , the mirror light in the rooflining turns on automat
ically. It turns off when the lid is closed and the visor is folded up
again.
Two-part vanity mirror*
The vanity mirrors in the sun visors are in two parts ~ page 77,
fig. 70 . When the lid@ is slid open, a
normal magnifying mirror is
available and when the lid@ is slid open , a mirror with
high-power
magnification is available. In addition, when one of the lids is
opened, the mirror light in the rooflining turns on automatically . It
turns off when the lid is closed and the visor is folded up again. •

Sun Shade
The rear window is equipped with a sun shade.

The sunshade can be operated with the switch 1~ •-, 1 in the
driver's area and in the rear.

Press the l:!!l switch to extend or retract the electric
sunshade for the rear window~ fig.

Rear switch
Press the l.&I switch to extend or retract the electric
sunshade for the rear window~ fig. 72 .
After the sun shade for the rear window has reached either of its end
positions, it turns off automatically.
Briefly press the switch a second time to reverse the movement of
the sun shade before it reaches its end position. If the ignition is
turned off while the shade is still moving, the shade will continue
until it reaches the end position before turning off.
[ i] Tips
• If the sun shade is operated repeatedly within a short time, the
built-in overload protection circuit may be tripped. If this occurs,
you will have to wait briefly before you can operate the shade again.
• Because of the decrease in the flexibility of the shade material at
temperatures below freezing, the electrical circuit which operates .,_
